2018 Jean Foillard Morgon Elles

  • Let me preface this by saying after trying this and a metras previously, I don’t think gamay is my personal preference. There is an initial punch of smokiness and acid, as well as a not desirable bitterness (this is not describing tannins). The finish is incredibly smooth and structurally it is sound, but I just don’t think gamay is my grape. I still for some reason think a jadot beaujolais villages is the most quaffable and top qpr wine.

  • Nose is cherry raspberry and some flinty reduction. More of that pencil shavings on the body, good ripe cherry rhubarb, enough acid to balance but not high acid. Whisper of tannin. Way better than my first bottle last year, I’m guessing this will get better for at least a few years.

  • Fabulous wine, hats off. It is so suculent and long you want to dive in it.

  • Light, cloudy, plummy red. Red fruited, floral, mineral nose. Lighter end of medium bodied, feminine, red fruited palate, spice, hints of citrus, weightless. Quite lovely in a very straightforward way.

  • Very alcoholic. I didn’t mind the other 2018s from Foillard but this one seems very hot for me. I would’ve guessed Grenache. Not unpleasant, some strawberry compote but too much heat. Not for me.

  • Crispy acidity, blueberries, strawberries. Nice but not good for me. Maybe to young. First BoJo I drank at all so I am no expert with these wines.
