  • It was at its best at the end of the night. Next time decant, or let them rest longer.

  • Definitely an off bottle--though odd for that to be the case with synthetic cork and supposed sterile filtering. Disjointed, sour-bitter taste, oak sticking out.

  • HOLD!

1 year later totally closed, no nose, no palate; decanted for one hour, cooled down to 58°, perhaps a light bit of fruit on the palate, no aroma as completely dumb

Second night, no aroma to start, a little more fruit on the palate, pleasant and oddly quite drinkable; only on the last glass at the bottom of the bottle, developing aromas of Bergamot tea, colas, rose petals, the beginning of burgeoning aromas but alas, the end of the bottle 😂

HOLD minimum six months; if possible, one year

While reviewing a prior note, I recalled a last glass in 2022 began to close down, both-aroma and palate; will this be a very fine pinot in the future? reminiscent of a 2005 jim maresh bottling that was amazing…15 years later

  • Final bottle. Followed a very well aged right bank bordeaux that emptied too quickly.

Always fun to taste the contrast. Was not thicker than the umami and smooth bordeaux but had more acid and brightness and was a tad less smooth. A shorter than preferred mid-palate. But a nice aftertaste

Food was designed around summer and lots of salads and such. So the taste jived well

Just as others have said, difficult to classify this wine - but very enjoyable

  • On pop'n'pour, seemed overrun by oak. However, like a prior bottle, with air felt more integrated, though certainly a Pinot in a Cabernet style--more extracted and brawny, a bit of a Power Pinot. Still, nice delicious factor, even if not a varietal-focused style.

  • The more of these I drink, the more I'm convinced that it's a Pinot Noir from Rhone.

  • Sassafras, cherry, bacon fat and baking spice aromas. Oak vanillin up front on the initial pour. Evolved with air to reveal a rounded, velvety palate, with a dark chocolate finish. Medium acidity, substantial tannic structure, bold yet overall balanced.

Plenty of structure here, should easily go 3-5 more years. An atypical Pinot for sure, new oak has a major role, more Bordelaise than Burgundian. That said, lots of substance for the price, not spoofy, in an 'older' style that showcases elevage over terroir.

  • This was my first ever dN wine. Unfortunately, I was not surprised.
Decanted for 2 hrs. It was not a smooth and balanced wine, and I felt a lot of alcohol. At $24/bottle, I will not purchase this again. I definitely have had better Pinots in this price range.

  • Started with a lot of acidity and after decanting in the glass for an hour it finally evolved into a more balanced wine. Cherry, high in tannins, earthy, medium acidity, hint of oak lingering on the palette.

  • A year since my first try with this and it is behaving exactly the same as before. Followed over 24 hours and it barely moved. Light ruby color, almost rose' with no haze or sediment. Light intensity bouquet with some bright red and yellow fruits and a hint of baking spice. Light tannins, medium acidity, and a short to medium finish. Very light oak, which is nice. Still just a bit wound up and there is a little candied aspect to it that I hope integrates further down the road. My prior score of 88 still seems to fit for me.

  • This Pinot shows more new world & darker fruit flavors, combining with forest floor & spices. After a long decant this wine continued to evolve in the glass throughout the evening. I’m going to hold my remaining bottles for the near future.

  • Been a while since I stopped and updated my TN on this. 7th bottle from my case. Overall, matches my previous note from a year ago. The biggest change on the nose is a bit more of a forest leaf presence and the finish has a lot more black tea.

I thought this Pinot was going to evolve further when compared to the N.165. However, it has barely budged since after it got though bottle shock. Where as the N.165 PN continues to show evolution. Still a great PN.

  • Checked in on this wine after several months. Very enjoyable. Darker red fruits profile, especially cherries. Nice acidity & fullness at mid-palette, but seemed to drop off at the finish. Decanted several hours. Will wait until fall to sample another.

  • Decanted for an hour and it’s still rather closed. Red fruit and spice with a crunchy acidity and fine tannins. Still enjoyable. Will update as needed.

Edit: it definitely opened up on day two. Tannins are like medium and super smooth now. Developed some nice vegetal notes. Just a touch too peppery and spicy for my preference. Will be very interesting to see how this ages.

  • I would recommend letting the wine breathe in the glass or a decanter for about 1 hour. On the PnP, the wine is a bit tight — tart cherry, strawberry, chocolate, and cola. It’s very typical RRV, but in a wound up fashion

After we let the wine sit, it was quite pleasant. Subdued cherry, cola, and hints of vanilla. Smooth entry and a full mid-palate with a nice bouquet of fresh fruit. Long finish. I’m usually a little weary of Pinot Noir > 14%, but there’s no “heat” here. Just a pleasant representation of quality RRV Pinot noir.

This is my first de Negoce PN and I didn’t know what to expect — I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s a tough grape to grow well and doesn’t usually lend itself to (quality) bulk wine.

  • Aromas of fresh mountain pinery, cherry, raspberry and strawberries, hints of dirt encrusted mushroom; later, perfumed white lily comes and goes followed by whiffs of cola; strawberry, cherry and a spicy cinnamon mid-palate nuance a touch of sour salal berry, integrated tangy acidity, that leads to a long lip-smacking finish

light rose garnet in the glass, excellent acidity, nuanced complex aromas and flavors, a slight grippiness on the finish after an hour followed by a shut down in the palate and nose at the bottom of the bottle; little has changed in nearly a year suggesting this pup will benefit from minimum 6 months in the cellar, perhaps even better in a year

slo-oxed 4 hours, grassl cru, 58 degrees, nicely paired with a honey bacon salad, avocados and fresh sliced hard-boiled eggs. Delicious and subtle today, pairs well with food despite its higher abv, this just feels like it’s going to be special tomorrow

  • Ruby robe.
Aromatic evergreen, earthy red fruit, dried rose petal nose..
LB, bright acid, supple tannins. Red fruit - cherry, red currant, raspberry, black tea notes. Long-lasting finish.

  • Costco lobster ravioli with brown butter sage sauce and parmesan
No decant. Just some in glass swirling
Worked well. Acidity, mouthful were nice. The heaviness of the wine complemented the buttery richness
Would a buttery chardonnay have been better? Maybe ..but this pairing was mighty fine

Day 2: Peruvian roast chicken and papas a la huancainas.....worked very well

  • Needed two hour decant before it woke up, then it had an awesome QPR.

  • Had my second bottle, nothing much new to add. Similar experience over two days.

  • PnP, and had with Pizza... once again great floral notes on nose. Bright red fruit, floral on palate. Feminine profile for RRV .. really really liked it, especially for the price

  • Very Strong Floral bouquet right from the open... bright red fruit, medium to medium - body, easy drinker, that went well as a sipper with no food. Really liked it

  • Decanted for an hour. Closed and tight at first. Fruit came out and became juicy. A bit of complexity after 4-5 hrs. Good value!

  • Poured this and was surprised that the color was a lighter than expected. Red fruit on the nose. The palate was nice and bright, red crunch fruit dominated day one, day two had a bit more depth with a little bit of earth. a touch of tannins and some bright acidity. This was really good to drink now and given the tariff it has excellent QPR.

  • PnP two days after delivery. Bright fresh Pinot, raspberry and red fruits, nice acid and light floral bouquet. Still very primary at this stage but nevertheless highly enjoyable, goes down way too easy. Day two drank much the same, did not either evolve or fade. Even if this never matures into something more complex this is a great cellar defender and a high QPR.

  • After 6 hours open. Medium ruby, clear and sound. Light bouquet intensity of flowers, glue (not in a bad way;), cherry pie, apples and cinnamon. Medium body/high acidity/light tannin. Medium length, slightly hot finish.
I really like the way that OG N.48 (2018) is doing now after a year of development. I hope this follows a similar trajectory, as it isn’t all that together yet. Score for today 5+10+16+7= 88

  • Rich, spicy, sappy. Medium acid with a medium/high amount of tannin- that is for a RRV pinot. The finish is tad green and bitter. Will follow over 3 nights and update if it changes.

Night 3: split the bottle in 3 250ml bottles, so perhaps it didn't get enough air, but it didn't really change. Right now I'd rate it a 'meh'.

  • Aromas of fresh mountain pine greenery, soft red fruits, raspberries, strawberries, mud encrusted crimini, flint and graphite minerality and coffee notes; on the palette an unctuous mouthfeel of fresh raspberries and strawberry meets soft yet grippy tannins reflecting this recently bottled wine’s youth, later closing with a zesty mouth watering acidity, a finish that only gets better longer in the glass while the heft of the wine grows with exposure to air.

Last 1/3 of the bottle, with 2 hours of air, reveals a nicely balanced harmony of fruit, acid and alcohol; this is a bottle with quite a future.

This pinot will benefit enormously from another year in bottle. Grassl cru. Pnp. Accompanied by fresh caprisi salad, roasted potatoes, peppers, onions, tomatoes from the garden and barbecued salmon. 89-91

  • Been about 2 months since we first tried a bottle. Gave it a healthy decant of 2 hours before tasting. Nose is red fruits, vanilla, fresh pine, and eucalyptus. Spot on pinot entry with that bright fruit forward acidity. Tart slightly underripe cherries and raspberries followed by vanilla, black tea, and a bit of licorice. Even a bit of citrus comes through – meyer lemon comes to mind. Slightly grippy but mostly smooth and light tannins. Moderate finish, tart cherry, tea, slate, and a bit of herbs or licorice finish it off. After a few more sips – the finish starts to build up with minerals and mild herbal tastes.

As I type out the note, the finish continues to build up and starts to become spicy. This wine tastes vastly different than the day it was delivered. For me, this is exactly what a young Pinot Noir should be. These bottles need more time to develop - it can get only better from here. The question we are struggling with is how long should we wait until the next bottle?

91 pts today, but I think this will be in that 93-95pt range once it has more time to lay down.

  • Tasted a glass shared by a friend.

Structured, varietally on-point Pinot Noir. This bottle wasn't shocky, though it is still a sum of its parts now: clean Pinot fruit and spice, with quality French oak. Well-balanced between ripe red fruit, acidity, tannins and elevage choices.

Could use a couple of years to knit together, though enjoyable in its primary state.

  • Quite literally popped open a bottle of this when UPS arrived and took notes on Day 2.

Bottled 4/22/2021 - I was expecting this to show lots of signs of bottling shock. Nose is dark cherry, pine, eucalyptus, and black tea. Has this juicy dark and light red fruit palate going on that wanted to come out but was just being held back. Heavy but fine tannin structure. Lots of forest notes, including some juniper, on the finish that remind me of cycling or hiking through Mount Tam or Point Reyes. After a a few sips I detect some tea on the finish as well.

The rest of the case is now laying down and will revisit in 3-4 months. Hoping that the fruit will start to pop. At the very least, I think I have now calibrated my personal palate with Cam's tasting notes and have less concern about hopping on more offers in the future.
