Strawberries, hibiscus, and a faint amount of mushroom. Clearly Pinot noir, which at this price point is often not the case. Good value. Only knock on this wine is it’s a little short, but for 21 bucks this is great.

Clear cherry cola, medium to light extraction color. Slightly candied strawberries on the nose, with orange peel on the periphery. Fresh, clean light to medium viscosity mouthfeel with a brisk acidity. The sweet red fruit flavors mimic the nose, quickly fading to a mid palate and finish reminiscent of a dried fruit powder level of presence. This is a warm weather Pinot that may be seen as an easily quaffable red wine that may even benefit from serving it chilled. A viable outdoor picnic food accompaniment. Postscript: After several hours the wine has softened and the fruit has become more supple, fleshed out, and pronounced. The acidity has retreated to a more balanced role and the overall palate profile has decidedly improved, resulting in an improved score from an initial 87 to 89.5. A reminder to this taster that first blush assessment may not be all too fair.

Scent of red cherries, hint of strawberry and oak. Taste of red cherries, strawberry and hint of oak in the end, everything well balanced. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins. A very good Pinot Noir!

Savory notes of dark fruit, cherries, and toast show touches camphor and peach skin/pit complexity. It's woody, in a good way, and displays a lovely rusticity on the back end and through the finish.

Second opened bottle at Steve’s, with the end of the grilled meats. On the nose and palate, semisweet red cherries, red raspberries, pomegranate and red currants; mixed spice box, red florals, strawberries and light dashes of vanilla and oak. Very light red, lighter bodied, light legs. Very energetic acidity, light tannins, no heat. Good complexity, very good intensity and persistence. I’ve been drinking ABC chards and Pinots for almost as long as I’ve been drinking wine, but not with much regularity, particularly recently, but this was bang on with great focus, lithe crispness and lift and nothing whatsoever overdone. This leaner style of Pinot, not unlike what you might find in a Village-level Burgundy but far more welcoming in its youth, really excelled with the food, but for me, there was enough fruit so that I’d expect to be more than fine on its own. Drinking very solidly now, this has the acidity to stay at around this level for a good 5 years, and could even slightly improve. I’ve said in numerous TNs that I think that there’s no CA varietal where the value proposition gets shakier when the price goes up than Pinots, and while this didn’t compete with the significantly pricier ‘12 Rhys Horseshoe, it was certainly in the range of numerous 2-3x Pinots I’ve had in the last couple-few years. May have to keep a bottle or two of this around for non-wine geek friends and seek out some of the SVDs. 90-91+ and getting the benefit of the doubt score wise at its price point. RIP, Jim C; your contributions to CA Burgundian varietals will live on. Recommended.

Ok. I opened a second bottle, and this is a delightful wine. Medium body. Nice red fruit up front, gave way to clove and black licorice. Would go well with grilled chicken or lamb. I returned the corked bottle to the store, replaced it and bought two more. At this QPR, I should go get even more.

Cherry, rhubarb, licorice over a slight leafy greenness and just the tiniest hint of vanilla oak. Appetizing tart finish with soft tannins. It manages to hit the mark as a food friendly Pinot, year after year, always at a price point where other California producers are putting out plonk. Deadly with prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, bone in pork chops with rosemary, sauteed mushrooms, you name it.
RIP Jim.

Had this PN @Shagbark restaurant in Richmond, paired with cast iron rare duck breast. Lighter in both body and color, but nicely balanced between fruit and mineral. Raspberry, pomegranate, cherry, cloves and a slight peppery finish. Does not seem structured enough for extended bottle age.

This was so bright, crisp and enjoyable. Bright and spicy with raspberry, red apples, with rose petals, rhubarb, tobacco, paprika. Medium-bodied, crisp acidity, dusty tannins. Crisp red apples and cherries, bright raspberries - gorgeous fruit. Rose petals, rhubarb, white pepper, cola, spicy pepper and paprika. Crisp and enjoyable, lively. So good.

99!?! Is this guy is crazy? I have reviewed this before but the 2019 offering is pure magic. Nose: deep red raspberry with subtle hints of rose pedal and vanilla. Mouth: Light in the only way a solid pilot noir can be. This wines body is perfection. The acidity balance combined with the fruit balance is second to none. Taste: Fruit punch, raspberries, subtle cherry and a dash of pomegranate. Fish or chicken is a elegant pairing. Excuse me while I go back to my local spot and buy ALL they have.

Strawberries, cherries, savory notes, and earth. Just killer value year in year out - crushes other CA Pinots at 2-3x the price.

Very tart and acidic straight out of the bottle, but about 20 minutes of air brought restrained red fruit to the forefront. Excellent for the price.

Fairly savory but light cherry flavors, new world, but barely so in this bottle.
A bit thin mid palate

Well made Pinot Noir from California. Didn’t quite hit the mark for cheese and charcuterie, but that’s on us.
Aroma of plum, strawberry, oak, cherry, vanilla, pepper, and blackcurrant.
