  • Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: Dark cherries with a distinct funk and earth, like wet moss and mulch.

P: Similar cherries on the palate with a damp and slightly bitter earth. Wet tree bark and something like wet forest floor.

Great lift on this. It had a good amount of freshness to keep things lively.

  • Coravin'ed back to back with the '17 to shee what's up, and boy what a difference. This is a long term keeper with significant upside and aging potential. Absolutely amazing nose with an entire forest worth of spices and earth but particularly good Santa Cruz whole-cluster resin notes. Finish a bit clamped down right now, but the acid and supple tannin to elevate over time. I'll check next bottle again in 4-5y

  • One of the best Pinots I’ve had, period. Cherry/dark fruit earthiness is supported by very good acidity. This would outshine many 1er cru burgundies, and at a small fraction of the price. Will be buying more.

  • Dag 1:

    Dag 2:
    Holder fint

    Dag 3:
Fin kjerne av rød frukt, litt mørkere i frukten kanskje og litt skogbunn, fortsatt noe grønt a la bladverk eller stilk. En god del pepper. Ingen tydelige oksiderte aromaer. Dette er en god vin.

  • This pours light ruby in the glass. The nose is immediately expressive and complex showing cinnamon, dark cherry, pomegranate, blood orange zest, cherry blossom, crushed dry rocks, cedar grove after rain, cloves, and decaying mossy redwood. The palate is youthfully structured showing dark cherry on entry with bright high acid and medium minus tannin. The finish closes just a tad puckering and astringent, yet also shows some pleasant pleasant citrus pith and cinnamon/cloves. All in all this is a Mount Eden classic. Not quite as citrusy and overt as the 2010 and 2012, yet more open than the 2015. This is not unlike some of the better 2018 and 2019 burgundies I've recently checked in on. Very nice stuff which I suspect will be brilliant in 10 - 20 years.

  • Small US new arrivals tasting hosted by a merchant. Similar to the chards from Mount Eden, this came across rather restrained, maybe even reductive at first, but did open up quite a bit with aeration into a bouquet of surprisingly cool fruit of red cherry, dried herbs and fine underwood. Sweet spices as an additional kicker. The palate was harmonious, fresh but did lose some of the aroma intensity.

  • I liked this but it was a bit fruitier/riper than I might expect from 13.5% and Santa Cruz

  • Too young but promising. Hold.

  • Pale ruby. On the nose a rich melange of pinot berry, nutmeg, roses, lilacs, California bay tree, and moist earth that brings tears to the eyes. Perfect depth of rich dark fruit on the palate, enriched by glowing acids, medium body with a nice aromatic backing of light tannins, wonderfully winding and contemplative as it moves into the very long, moving, evocative finish. Such a lovely, classic expression of everything that I love about Mount Eden pinot. 13.5% alcohol.

  • Based on high ratings from other vintages, I bought 2 bottles for $60 each. There is little press for 2018 so far. I'm drinking over two days, but so far very disappointed. What a waste of money if if it doesn't improve in several years. It's just a generic every day pop n'pour at this point, and not even a good one. Harsh taste exhibiting few typical pinot flavors. Not very smooth, has a limited finish. Seems disjointed in a way I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's too young and closed at this stage. It is darker fruit with bolder flavors than most PN, so maybe just too young.
