Waited too long on this one -- lots of primary flavors and the typical Mazzoni fruit that I so enjoy is mostly gone. However, it will go great with tonight's steak. Nose is like a port, initial taste is alcohol and prune, medium finish with some vanilla.

One more bottle of solid Ridge Zin. Decanted shortly before drinking. In the glass, strong nose of forest floor, red fruit, and black pepper. Purple berries with a medium finish. The relatively heavy dose of Carignane in the blend was evident in some pleasant tartness. Drink up. Very nice food pairing with pan-fried spicy Cajun catfish with dirty rice.

Still drinkable but past its prime window by several years. Nice bramble on the nose at first that sadly went away. Dried plums and raisins on the palate. 2004 also tasted recently held up better but both were still good. My fault for waiting too long to drink them.

Deep red garnet and transparent. Aromatic nose with notes of red cherry, berries, black pepper, vanilla, oak, alcohol. Tastes of tart cherries and berries up front, ends peppery with light tannins. Light in mouthfeel but with concentrated tart fruit flavor, it's kind of like a lollipop. Would pair well with fatty food.

Dark red color with limited transparency. Aromas of currant, cherry, raspberry, dirt, and black pepper. Palate has floral pepper notes with a blueberry and raspberry fruit core. The finish is medium and tannins here are in check, but lurking. For the advertised 13.6% alcohol, this acts like a bruiser on the palate, but does seem to leave you more refreshed after a sip than overwhelmed. An above-average ATP wine, but not as suave as a recent 2004 Geyserville was. Drink or hold.

With pot roast, mashed potatoes and gravy. Good bright ruby, dark but not opaque. Brambly fuit on the nose, with some pepper. Berry and Pepper, dry and medium to medium full weight, some nice depth, and good length. Tannins nicely under control. I wouldn't hold this much longer, but maturity is still there. Nice wine.

Now the oak has integrated. I like the way this has come together. May have a bitt of brett, but not in a bad way.The Carignane in this gives it a different fruit profile than if it were Zin alone. Much better than the last bottle I had.

Medium ruby color. Some really cool herb aromas on the nose along with some meat, rose petals and vanilla. I really dig this nose -- I can imagine this is going to improve and be unbelievable in another 10 years as secondary and tertiary aromas develop. Lots of dark fruit on the palate. Silky tannins. Medium mouthfeel and medium finish. Could use a touch more acid. Nice wine.

Sadly disappointed in opening this wine. Maybe should not have decanted (damned peer pressure) but felt it was sour and thin, lacking the usual Ridge complexity and body.

Dark color, nice fruit on the nose, good balance of raspberry, dusty tannins and decent finish. Perfect accompaniment to baby back ribs with dry rub and Hawaiian style sauce. The wine opened up with a heavier fruit profile with more pronounced tannins after the food, so I'll hold onto my last bottle for another year or two. Good stuff. Purchased at the winery in 2008.

A food wine. Not as bright as when we tasted at the winery. A bit tannic and simple. Muted fruit -- frustratingly light weight. Traces of sexy, dark fruit emerge with food (meat). Perhaps an off bottle or I'm off. I'll let my other bottle sit a couple months.

Very enjoyable. It's fruity with a nose of blackberries, cherries, vanilla and oak. The palate is smooth and full with a beautiful, slightly tannic finish. Ridge zins are some of the finest made.

As per earlier note, I can tell this wine is delicious and deep, with dusty juicy fruit and a grippy texture. Sadly, this wonderful wine seems to have been served on Band-Aids and has lost a lot of its character. Brett. A damned shame. *After an email to Ridge, they sent a replacement right away. Great people there!

Popped and poured this. Did not bother to decant or aerate in a decanter.
Color is gorgeous deep purple with ruby on the edge. Aromas of red fruits. Cranberry, strawberry, some cherry. Also some coffee and a hint of chocolate. Shows a wonderful balance and structure. Flavor profile includes cranberry, blackcherry. Might be some roasted red peppers and black pepper that would make this wine excel with a BBQ dinner. There's a shot of heat on finish along with toffee, some coffee and tannins. In short: It doesn't suck.
As to the score, if this was paired with BBQ ribs, this wine would have push a 93. It rocks.
Longevity: This will last several years in the cellar. I'm thinking it will be save in 2012 and beyond, so don't panic.

Dark purple and full of ripe peppery dark fruit, this is a winner. Another great wine from Ridge. In contrast to other Ridge Zins, this one has a bit more stoic character and a grip on the mid-palate that does a nice job of balancing the explosive fruit, black licorice, and creamy mouthfeel.

This wine was on fire tonight! Scorched sweet red cherries, licorice, smoke, velvet. Yum. This is why I love Ridge. Perfect time to drink this.
