Refined and elegant bouquet of licorice, ripe black berries and plums with earthy and spicy nuances as the base notes. Not in your face and powerful style of Shiraz. However the nose needed 45 mins to open up. On the palate, it is again focused on balance and freshness of the elements, not the usual forward, ultra rich and ripe black fruits vanilla chocolate. It has a complex palate, largely echoing the flavors from the nose. The mid-palate freshness, with just a touch of blackcurrant chocolate cake and some bursts of energy at the finish make this wine interestingly different from the norm. The tannin structure is also well integrated into the flavors.

fully mature with hardly noticeable tannins. Smooth with good fruit flavors and long finish. Not particularly complex but a very nice 10 year old shiraz. Only a short decant necessary.

Still a powerful wine that needs a good piece of red meat. More secondary notes come out this time around and still a very balanced wine. I will revisit in a couple years to see how this wine holds up.

Definitely agree with RMODAK's notes but I didnt get much tannin, much less firm tannin. Also, i would note that there is a plethora of fruit, like A LOT. Not in a fruit bomb way but tastes very young in that sense. Still primary flavors with much life ahead of it. I would decant 2 hours. Yumm. (cork closure)

Drinking really well and actually a nice blend of classic and modern style. There is rich purple color and fruit buttressed by firm tannins, minerality and cooling acidity. Some lifting violet perfume and smoke on the nose. Tastes like a much younger wine, but certainly worth a visit.

Decanted 3 hours. Unusually dark for many Barossa Valley Shiraz wines. Nose of pepper/cedar. Little dark fruits / berries and considerable spice on palate. Medium finish. Went well with red meat. Delicious. I could see old world wine drinkers enjoying this Aussie Shiraz.

Not ready yet. I agree with the WineScoundrel review. I found the wine flat and disjointed after a 1-2 hour decant. Nothing wrong but much less than I expected. There was one glass left in the decanter which I drank 24 hours later. Huge difference. Fruit was bright and the wine came together. Wonderful, long finish. If you want to try this wine decant it for many hours. Best to keep and wait for this wine to fully mature. I hope I can write a review like peterk or praxis in a few years. Perhaps cellar conditions explain why their wine rated so highly while the bottle I opened was so backward.

I'm not as excited about this compared to my last bottle in 2009. The fruit is not as bright and juicy- leaving a more prominent oily, olive-like flavor. Not necessary bad, just different, and I suppose one of the interesting aspects of following the development of a wine over time.

This wine has a inky black color with some hints of its age by the noticeable sediment in the bottle. Once open, its amazing aromas of well integrated wood in a dark fruity core is most apparent followed by more subtle notes of menthol and peppery spice. The palette of this big wine is deliciously satisfying with notes of blueberry, peppery spice with a slight amount of heat and relatively medium to long finish. I short this is a wonderful example of a Barossa Valley old vine shiraz that is at is prime.

Unimpressed. Seemed a touch one dimensional with dense ripe black fruit and a bit lacking in structure due to almost no acidity. No freshness in this wine. Showed some heat on the palette. With the 2 other Shiraz's of the night showing way more complexity in flavors and aromas, this left me feeling unsatisfied. Big yet it seemed to be struggling to find its purpose. Just because its a big wine doesn't mean it deserves a high rating. Have enjoyed other Glaetzer wines, this one was not up to par. Left me not caring to finish the bottle. 87-88

Decanted and consumed over 3 hours. Glycerin, graphite, and while deep and rich this was also a well-integrated shiraz that's coming of age. Really showing more terroir than you'd typically find in a Oz shiraz, more elegant and less fruit-driven, though the fruit was certainly very evident. Rose enjoyed more than I, but an excellent wine that could still use a few more years.

What a great bottle of wine. I had two bottles with corks and two with screw caps - funny - I chose one with a cork. Dark, inky wine with beautiful, mouth-coating texture and finish. Still appears to have some good life ahead of it, but why wait.

Had to open another bottle after a badly corked bottle in Dec. 2010. And this one is the real deal. One of the best Shiraz in the last few years. Purple, black in the glass. Blueberries without cloying sweetness. Kind of a prune or date hint after the initial attack. Some spice, but not forced. Really a balanced Shiraz with a richness than went on and on. Relatively low alcohol made this pleasant without heat. More complexity started to show after an hour, but the bottle kept getting lower. Had with a grilled pork tenderloin. Will wait a few years before opening another.

Please listen closely...if you have any bottles, and a good cellar, bury these and open in 6-7 years. This is hard to explain, but there's a deliciousness lurking in the background of some heat/oak that, once those elements integrate, will turn this into one of the tastiest liquids you've ever imbibed, consisting of mint, smokey lamb, and blueberries in heavy cream. Come's across like a upper-tier '07 CDP. 92 w/ one hour decant. 94 at end of bottle (3 hours later)...I can see this reaching RP's 99 when all is said and done.

Big rich, and coating. Glycerol, eucalyptus and ink, burnt caremel, blueberry and menthol. Lots of oak, a little harsh, and hot, not ridiculous but hot none the less. Still young still primal, drank next to 05 GAM and the GAM was the more enjoyable wine, more acidity and grip. less over the top, this tastes like it has a hotter climate than the GAM. A good wine just lacking freshness and acidic grip, and pleasantness, this is very masculine and raw. Needs time yet 90+

Popped and decanted and drank right away. Very dark in the glass; nice nose of mint and pepper. Great mouth feel on this wine - coats your mouth with wonderful notes of mint, berries and some earth. Really long finish to this wine. No rush to drink these either - I think it has a long (10 years?) future ahead of it.

Decanted and immediately consumed. Inky black, glycerin, menthol, eucalyptus on the nose. Extremely smooth tasting, approachable yet tight. Its not yet releasing all the flavors that are wrapped up in this, but its still tasting very well nonetheless. Will drink remaining bottle 3-5 years from now just to ensure that the tanins, which are smooth and fine, haven't disappeared. Has a nice sophistication if the flavors can unwind while the wine itself is still so drinkable.

Inky dark. Prominent mint/menthol note on nose. A rich, viscous wine that didn't necessarily go well with food, but was outstanding on its own. Lots going on here, very young and primal- I will wait considerably before opening my last bottle.

What a delicious wine from the second it was opened. It is very dark and mysterious with a huge wonderful noise of blackberry, prune, blueberry, vanilla, and a hint of mint and rose petal of all things. In the mouth it has a coating property and viscous is a good way to describe it. The finish lingers forever, easily 30 seconds, with a nice vanilla and slight oak. A great wine that still has not hit its peak.

Thanksgiving Dinner (Jeff McHugh's condo): Decanted 4 hours. Darkest wine I've seen in awhile, and very thick, like blackberry syrup. Coating my decanter, glass, mouth, teeth...Nose is beautiful. This is going to be something special! Aromas of dark blackberry fruit with a touch of vanilla and earth. In the mouth, very thick and coating, with blackberries, blueberries, a bit of vanilla 'oakiness', and tasty earthiness that I love. Not to hot, acidic or tannic, and the fruit, while prominent, isn't exploding like a fruitbomb. This is integration! Finish goes on for a minute or more...Astounding wine that makes me wish I'd bought more.

Warm-up Tasting at Mo's (Charbonniere, Mitolo, Greenock) (Mo's Place): Tasted along side the 2001 Greenock Alice's, this wine really shone and just edged it out by a hair. A big nose of black currants, smoke and anise that was constantly evolving throughout the night. One minute taking on scents of blueberries and vanilla, the next a meaty pork fat aroma. Just stunning wine with a long 70 second finish. One of the best wines I've had the pleasure of consuming.
