Quite a shy nose right from the bottle. This needs a good decanting of at least 2 hours to release the aromatics. More vegetal notes and less fruit forward than previous vintage. Very high level of acidity but it is balanced by the juicy fruits and smooth tannins. Medium-bodied with an opaque structure not letting much of the fine elements through. Some funky tar and toasty oak evaporate after sometime in the glass, it then finished cleanly. Good to hold on to this for a few more years before drinking it. 89-90 pts

Tasted after a 1.5hr decant. Dark ruby in colour with lovely aromas of slightly herbal leather & chocolate. On the palate, full bodied tart & juicy black fruit, cassis, blackberry, slightly earthy, chocolate, herbal & floral, well integrated oak, medium to high acidity, high soft tannins with a long finish to tart black berries, leather & black pepper. Tasting a little young & aggressive at this time, but will be interesting to see the aging progression.

On the PnP, without food and on sight and smell only: Wynns is medium ruby colour and looks broody compared to the lighter coloured challenger wine. I’m instinctively like broody and moody. Initially the aroma of blackcurrant boiled sweets with cigar revealing itself shortly afterwards. So there’s the archetypal tobacco and blackcurrant thing going on. Some sandalwood too.
20 minutes in, sniff and first taste: The tobacco elements in the Wynns seem more linear and thus more focussed. Mrs Wongstonn is calling out flavours I am soooo not getting like barnyard and fish. But I do agree with her that it has improved aromatically after 20 minutes. Vanilla still there and there’s a sweetness coming through.
Adding food the equation: homemade Wagyu beefburgers. The Wynns came into its own. It felt like a harmonic note was sweetly resonating above the food. Good value cab sav.

Screw cap. The medium-high intensity nose is fragrant and open with attractive aromas of leafy grilled herbs, red & black fruits, currant, cherry, cassis, and fine wood spice with touches of mint and savoury earth. It's full-bodied, ripe, and dry with lovely red and black fruited cherry, currant, cassis, mint, and leafy herb flavours on the palate. It's well-structured with fresh, juicy acidity and ripe, structured, and fine-grained tannins that are youthful and a touch grippy. More savoury with earth and wood spice notes on the mid-palate, which linger through to the long, gently smoky finish.
Stale air in the glass meant that a fairly vigorous shake was required to dispel but then bold aromas of blackcurrant, mint and eucalyptus leapt from the glass, red currant underpin, touches of cedar and sweet spice here as well. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, that red currant note also freshens the palate, coarse flour textured tannins persist with the black hued fruits. Return to form after the last bottle I tried. Very good.
Tasted with Chatters in Sydney; this was the wine of the night. it took a bit of time to blossom (in spite of previously being double decanted by Chatters) but when it did, it was a beauty. Showed the classic Coonawarra eucalyptus and mint. Complete, not overly polished with a many nooks and crannies to keep one wanting to explore and take the next sip. Thank you Chatters for a great evening and for digging this one up.
Dark with a dirty purple, quite a thin hue considering its young age. Spicy aroma, dry oak, pepper, aniseed, plum. Powdery tannin, young and fresh, medium body. Probably too young for a wine that has such a long life but I had to try it. I will now wait a few years before I open another one.

Fremragende vin! Ifølge Decanter, Jan. 23 Must try red og 96 points.

Good. Very dark and intense, but without the lovely minty note, that I used to get from these wines. Palate is ripe and round, not too tannic (at least with food). Good amount of blackcurrant and dark plum. Might like a little longer finish but plenty good.

Sweet fruit with a touch of menthol on the nose. Bright cherries and liquorish on the palate, a bit confectionary. Nice balance and a little grip. Short to medium finish with mellow aftertaste. Did not decant long. Good wine, a bit simple and reminds me of why I loved these wines of the 1990s.

Coonawarra Roadshow (Town Hall, Sydney): Blackcurrant, slight eucalyptus, a tiny sweaty note, cedar. Juicy, chewy, savoury, dense tannins seem to dominate. Not as good as when I last tasted this - quite closed and lacking generosity.

CellarDoor TWE Tasting (Langham Hotel, Kent Street, Sydney): Medium minus intensity aromas of black currant, a little tomato leaf. In the mouth it’s got juicy acidity, fleshy, wild black currant, tannic burr but this is wetly enjoyable – nose not so hot but palate is pleasing. Yum

Opened after talking to others who have tasted and loved it. So dark in colour. Blackberries, blueberries, and hints of herbal and vanilla notes. Tannin is a bit aggressive at this stage, but nothing that time can’t tame. Very nice wine with massive upside. Would wait a few years before opening another bottle. Will buy a few more bottles to lay down. 93+
Would recommended a decent decant before drinking.

Dark and opaque with a smoky, charred wood, struck match and black fruit. To taste, it's still primary with cassis and undiluted Ribena fruit and blackcurrant jam. It's still disjointed with fruit first, tannins next and acidity last. It needs time to meld together.

19 wynns Fly spray. Nettles. Capsicum. Mint and eucalyptus. Feels coony start and end. Loses some focus through the middle. It’s very good. Low oak, crunchy and pure skins tannins. Improved greatly with air, infanticide to drink now. Look again 4-5 years. Shared at end of year WineGeeks. 92

Taste with Langton's Wynn's Masterclass (virtual event): Appearance: deep purple. Nose: blackcurrant, black cherry, baking spices, hint of eucalyptus. Palate: medium to full bodied. Well balanced. Acidity is not too raw. Fine tannins. Excellent.

Very good example of Australia Cabernet Sauvignon.
New world cab is a wine style I don't drink much - in the wrong hands it can be over-extracted, over-oaked and jammy, which I guess is a popular style. But the wine-maker at Wynns has done a great job. Lots of fruit of course, very young and primary but already delicious, never heavy and with good balance.

Fyldig og elegant CS fra Coonawarra. Ren frukt av mørke bær og detaljerte eiketoner med vanilje og sjokolade. Lovende potensial for videre lagring.
