Popped and poured about 30 minutes later. Light in color. Nose was not very discernible. Initially, it had a bit of a bite. Could have been acid or alcohol-heat. It mellowed a bit later on. Burgundian flavors. Little finish. Okay Pinot, nothing special. A bit over the hill. Drink now!

Light in color, good clarity. Sour cherry, mushroom and earth on the nose. Palate isn't quite following through. Decent fruit up front, but as it rolls to the finish it gets sour and bitter. I really like the burgundian sour cherry notes, but this is bitter. A bit thin and astringent. It was ok, but the finish was a letdown. Past peak already.

Not expecting anything memorable, this bottle was sacrificed for the Thanksgiving Boeuf Bourguignon. Purists might argue it is not Bourguignon, but so be it; it is an expensive proposition these days to pour the Chambertin into the stew pot.

Of four pinots last night (2 OR, 2 CA) this was the 3rd place finisher. Not much to stand recommend it. Not unpleasant, but not stellar and and no value equation winner.

Strawberry and raspberry on the nose. A sweet, but not overpowering opening for the wine with flavors of cherry and vanilla. The exciting opening gives way to satisfying fruit, but the wine lacks complexity and the push needed to make the finish noteworthy. Very good QPR.

The more I drink Burgundy or New Zealand - the more I feel bad for wines like this that will pale in comparison as overpriced for the taste. Fair enough that most others are $10 or more ... but for Pinot I guess I don't begrudge the money for something that is fun to drink

Drink the o6 now. We had the 2007 twice on vacation in Scottsdale in May '09. I think it is classic Sonoma Pinot. No doubt about the Russian River appelation here---we picked up on it right away. Found plumb, high strawberry notes, smoked meat undertone and the Russina River wet ground. Had the wet ground of midwest soil after a spring rain. Not amazingly complex but plenty going on. A good value considering Pinot prices . Returned home and found three bottles of the 2006 at the local store. We bought all three. Opend the first with friends on Friday and had positive impression , similar to the 2007 but softer and less fruit, more bacon--acidity down but still worked with cheese. Opend the scond on Sunday ---just as good. Opend the third on Monday for dinner and it was weak---not corked as others have suggested but felt like it had been aged a year past it's prime. I would drink the '06 now. Still we ordered a full case of the 2007 and will be using it as our standard Pinot for 2009-2010.

This was the second of two bottles I've had since last year. First was great, this one has been in my cellar for nearly a year, and was nearly corked. Its been in 55F cellar, I'd drink the rest soon. There was serious sulfur smells and mold smells.

I think my problem with Rodney Strong's offerings is that they are so damn boring. I hate boring pinot noir. Straw/raz flavors, with some nice spices. blah blah blah as soon as its gone its forgotten. Another competent wine, with not a touch of soul. Congrats, Rodney Strong!

Nose with hints of rose pedals, a tad bit of syrah. At this time the wine is very fresh, usually a privilege you get when tasting in RRV. A little more alcohol showing than I would like. Still...very good. Drink now.

As before but seemed even hotter, even after a half-hour in the fridge. Can't say I recommend this, but I can't complain too much when it's free. Thanks John!

As the other taster noted, varietally correct and not a terrible buy but not very exciting either. I feel like much better can be had for the money if you know where to look. Good food wine though.
