This is the last of my Christmas gift wines. The 2019 Stag's Leap Artemis is a very nice, very fruity wine. I decanted for about an hour and then I poured. This is typical Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It is very ripe, and has little tannin. There is no need to age this wine because it is ready for consumption.

Decanted all day. Just in a perfect spot. Deep crimson/black color whose nose is dominated by charcoal notes intermingled with red fruits. Great balance and just a joy to drink. Perfect with standing rib roast, scalloped potatoes and apple sauce. Really singing. Even the non wine people were drinking it up.

Nice balance of being smooth while not round or polished. Tannin and acid levels were nice. Dark fruit flavors, a bit of leather and graphite. Long finish. Very nice to drink

Difficult call. Not at all up my alley, but analyzing it, it is i) very much in balance ii) has no prominent wood treatment and iii) is certainly leafy, but has no added sweetness and displays something you could call terroir. Very much a good food companion, with dark, chocolate notes, black currant and forest floor, without being funky. Really good actually! I would reckon some 10 years of improvement ahead, buy and hold. And drink of course.

Decanted for two hours. Tannic structure integrated nicely without overbearing fruit. Dark fruit, leather, anise, chocolate, smoked cedar. Wonderful expression of Napa, will continue to improve.
Side note - this the best ‘19 Artemis out of my batch of bottles. I can only hope this is not an outlier and the remaining bottles sing like this. I don’t remember the last being this good.

29.8.23. Decanted for 4hr - needed more I think. Fruit forward on the nose, nice tight tannins with a smooth finish. Initially quite closed, then opened up nicely after 20min or so in the glass

Decanted and drank over two days. Tannins not fully integrated and the hot comment is spot on. Probably needs a good bit more time in the cellar. Had with flank steak and probably a bit more than the steak could handle. I’m not a Cali guy, so this wouldn’t be a repeat.

Gave this about 4 hours befor decanting. Nice dark color and it smells of candied fruits lavender and maybe coco. It definately has a sweet taste to the profile that was off putting for me. I purchased because my wife had had some and really liked it. Not a rebuy for me. Served with stuffed shells ijn homemade red sauce, garlic bread and brocklie.

Very aromatic upon opening with notes of dark fruit, vanilla and cassis. Left the bottle uncorked for 2 hours.
Palate follows the nose but with substantial earthiness leading to a dark chocolate note. Alcohol isn’t perfectly integrated here and it feels a bit hot.
Powdery tannins with a decent length in the finish.

2 hour decant. Pure Cassis, Blackberry, Cigar Box and Leather on the nose. Taste of Dark Berries, Black Plum, and Dark Chocloate. Firm Tannins and medium plus acidity. Nice lingering finish with soft mouthfeel. Always a favorite but perhaps a smidge young.

Opened this to welcome a friend to town. 70min decant and ready to pour.
On the nose, stewed blackberry and oak. Initial sips were tart red cherry, ripe blackberry, oak and subtle vanilla. Well balanced fruit and oak notes and a lengthy finish.
Med+ bodied, and more dry than I remember. Tannins were too tight and not enjoyable, likely due to youth.
I really enjoyed the 2018 vintage, and this just did not match that experience. Perhaps too young, or perhaps a subpar bottle. Will revisit this one in a few years.
Blast of licorice and dark fruit on the nose. Follows through with cassis/currant and black licorice through the finish. Leafy/tobacco notes cling around the edges but don't dominate.

Wonderfully aromatic but a little bit of a let down in mouth. Still a wonderful in mouth experience with blackberry fruit, tobacco leaf, maybe bay leaf, and sweet plum skin. The only issue with this wine was the dramatic letdown at the finish. Rather than lingering notes, I get a watery and disappated finish. Left me wondering.

Vinturied into decant. Getting more approachable, last year nearly undrinkable, makes sense …as the window is 2024-28+.. Be patient here, lots of structure that is going to gel in the next few years. Drink 2024-8..with aeration.

Very nice wine but it’s gotten a little pricy over the years and now competes with others I’d rather drink. Tasted at the winery and at home again. The winery was more impressive maybe they let it air out more but nose had lots of crushed violets and dark berries with some dark cocoa. Palette was tight prob bc I didn’t air it out much and it developed some over the next hour. Lots of fruit and cocoa with slight spice and herb. Still tight and young now but prob deserves more time like 2-3 yrs and would be even better.

Notable. Recomendado.

Loved their other vintages when I tasted them years ago. This vintage is good but nothing special. Used to be able to find this around $40 but not anymore. At the current retail, not the greatest QPR. There are quite a few better wines to be enjoyed in this price range imo.
Day 3 - a bit spicy and peppery. Much more interesting than day 1. 92+

Deep ruby. A simple, fresh and vernal - but not particularly Cabernet Sauvignon-like - nose offers aromas of just ripe blackberry, red cherry, lilac and oak spice. On the palate this is medium bodied with medium to medium+ acidity and a lively, easy-going texture. This is tasty and gulpable but lacks richness and depth that most Napa Cabernet drinkers will expect at this price point.

We drank this way too early, but I needed a bottle to take to dinner at our friends’ cottage and this is the best I could get my hands on with short notice. Decanted it for a couple of hours and served with beef tenderloin. It’s still a little oaky and hasn’t quite come together, but was still enjoyable with the food pairing. Better in 5 years, but this is a good cab, not a great cab, IMO. It’s not a good value generally, but good by Cali Cab standards.

Blind tasting tonight among 5 bottles. This was consensus worst on a blind basis. Later after decanting and we knew what it was, never got better. Maybe needs more time, but I won’t be revisiting. Plain, shallow, no need to revisit

Possesses a quite complex aroma and tastes of mild red fruits and spice. Has a bit of oakines and not unpleasant mustiness. Has a pleasant creamy finish, of medium length.
The bottle had been opened for a while, which was noticeable, but I decided that it was still good enough.

Bait and switched at a restaurant - 2018 advertised, 2019 delivered and didn’t have energy to turn it down and start over.
The wine is simply not ready - so it’s likely unfair to judge it too much at this time. It opened as being super juicy, reminded me of Oceanspray Cran-Blackberry. The alcohol was in check, and the oak didn’t stand out in either a good or bad way. Low to mid tannin. While it slightly improved over dinner, it just made no sense to be drinking it at this stage, particularly at its price point.
Right now 89 at most 90 points on the outside. In my opinion still too young and a bit sharp, tannic and disjointed to get the 92 points noted in 2 TN's below but I think the ingredients are there - with another 3-5 years of proper cellaring with concomitant maturation and integration I can see this wine hitting 91 possibly 92 points. 99.5% cabernet sauvignon this vintage. Drink or hold but leaning very heavily on the hold right now - if drunk now I would recommend a long 2-3 hour decant. Very dark purple, big mouth feel, oak and tannins very present, full bodied and very fruit forward with a long aftertaste. Big dark fruit forward nose of dark stone fruit, red cherry and a hint of vanilla and rose petals. On the palate surpridingly dry with oak, very defined dark fruit and classic cassis with underlying tannins present through out. I do recommend this with the caveat that at this point it still needs more time. At maturation this will be a very reasonable QPR wine.

Needs time but “beat it up” a bit. We decanted multiple times and it opened up. Very dry and awesome favor profile. I will go back and buy more but wait a few years. On the PnP not impressive at all. Triple decaying brought out huge tannins and very dry cabernet but very pleasing for those liking a dry cab taste with “round” mouthfeel and lingering flavor profiles. Excellent wine in 2025?
