Lay & Wheeler Summer tasting: Crunchy, deep and saturated. Blackberry, cherry, coffee. Great concentration with a pulpy character on the palate and some gentle grip.

Primary, unoaked, true to its origin and grape. This simple style of cab franc has its time and place and I don't mind that, it's a wine that goes well with a lot of food and it's quite easy-going. But at €19 I expect a little more.

Loire trip 2022; 6/15/2022-6/19/2022 (Loire, France): [At Domaine Taille aux Loups] Their entry level CF, no wood. Quite expressive for such a young wine; cassis, black currant, blackberry. Medium- tannins, medium body, medium finish

Nose: Blackberries, iron, blackberry stem and bramble, tilled dark soil Palate: tart and very bright red raspberries that transitions to strawberry, dried tobacco, almost a lightly carbonated mouthfeel on the finish; lighter and brighter than the other Les Côteaux du Levant and Perrieres I've had. In other words, it lacks a bit of depth and doesn't feel as brooding as some of the wines I've had from Jacky Blot's other vineyards. I think the combination of the moderately high acid along with the riper than expected tannins for such a young wine make it more simplistic than I was ultimately hoping for. All that being said, it's still a really good wine and one worth seeking out for around $20.

Classic CF aromas in a warmer year but with a hint of Brett sadly. Beyond that, pure and fresh; good refreshment here, a great vin de soif. Cherry stone fruits. Slightly menthol on the finish.

Not the typical cab franc from Loire. Where is the bell pepper and the blueberries? Love this producer but this felt a little weak

Much prefer their “Les Coteaux du Levant”. Seek out, it’s outstanding.
