Shortly after open, on the nose: signature coche gunflint, white blossoms, vanilla, peaches, lemon, light herbal quality.
On the palate, there's a slight hint of ripe mangoes and pineapples wrapped with lemon, black pepper, wet stones, and a bit of lemon pith. Mid palate is more on the savory side. Body is not too heavy (medium+). Finish is long and sometimes a bit of ripe pineapple shines through.
After 2-2.5hrs of air as it opened, meyer lemons, tropical fruits like apricot and mango, and florals dominate on the nose. On the palate, the same fruits dominate, where it's supported by the spice and minerals and slight bitterness in the background. The way how the fruit shows is beautiful. Delicious!

I love Coche, deeply. The village level wines are always excellent for village level but understandably don't quite have the complexity and profound bearing that makes the premier and grand cru wines so fabulously compelling and so desirable. So no surprises here - an excellent villages level Meursault (rivaling most producers' premier crus) with that reductive personality that I just love. Big, smoky, creamy, lemony, yellow fruited nose. For my coin, I'd be inclined to chase the premiers but focusing solely on what's in the glass (QPR aside), this is lovely Meursault I'd drink with pleasure any time.

Absolutely beautiful nose, textbook Coche struck match, flint, smoky lemon and a lovely pain grille aroma. The palate shows the ripeness of 2006 but in a very constrained way. Meyer lemon sweetness with a zippy dose of acid and some nutty flavors. I could smell this all night, and the texture of the palate is beautiful, flavorful without any heaviness or sweetness.

I can sniff this all day: Matchstick reduction, lemon oil, and truffle on the nose. Large scale, almost oily, texture, yet lithe and racy. Flavors of citrus and mineral reduction are framed by excellent acidity. The 2006 Meursault is gorgeous and hasn't yet peaked.

Bright straw. Less matchstick reduction than previous bottles, but it is still there, followed by lemon oil, candied peach, and crushed rock. Citrus oil flavors on the palate are supported by bright acidity and lead to a long, lingering finish. Impressive concentration for a village Meursault and particularly refined for 2006. The 2006 Meursault should drink well for some time.

Bright yellow. That Coche integrated reduction leads off, followed by peach, lemon oil, and crushed rock. Round citrus and peach on the palate, bright acidity, persistent finish. As I tend to highlight in my village-level Coche tasting notes, the concentration and intensity here are impressive indeed. The 2006 Meursault should drink well for another 5+ years.

Nose has milder examples of the the classic Coche elements but seems to have more spice and saline. Waxed Meyer lemon, candied pineapple, and cinnamon. Palate is big and intense with some creaminess. Very good, but doesn't stack up to recollection of the '04 village. Came back to a glass worth of this left in the fridge overnight and it was actually much more impressive. Intensified nose and palate. More Coche character and a more precise palate.

Flatiron + Absinthe (Coche and Roulot) (Flatiron, Absinthe SF): Noble reduction in the nose with intense lemon oil and matchstick. Memories of India and sandalwood. Head-spinning hazelnut and lemon oil. Slight buttercream from oak. Super well integrated. Medium bodied. Slightly elevated alcohol (13.5%? Actually 12.5%). Tensile high acidity. Long.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 6/24/2016-6/25/2016 (Chicago, IL): This was the bigger and more powerful of the two -- I liked this a touch more than the 2009 as well. This is super rich and powerful, with that typical Coche fat. The palate doesn't show any of the rot problems of 2006 -- this is a great example of the Coche style, even if you could make a case that this isn't the best value out there.

Coche's 2006 Meursault AOC is evolving beautifully, and has become a much more exciting wine than it was when I last tasted it four years ago. A classic Coche-Dury nose of struck match, nutty new oak and autolysis, white peach and citrus oils (Mandarin, Meyer lemon) is followed by a vibrant, textural palate impression, with excellent cut and energy despite the vintage. Good to see this wine evolving so well, and it's still youthful.

So dense, compact and backwards. Has plenty of struck match to the aroma along with white peach and mineral. I thought there may have been just the faintest whiff of tca. Dense and chewy in the mouth with a finish loaded with chalky dry extract.

It was amazing how young this wine still showed. Aromas of fresh orange, lemon zest, split vanilla bean, caramel, and mineral richness. The mouthfeel was enticingly soft, with focused energy from the acidity. Behind the fresh fruit on the palate there was notes of Halloween candy corn. Really enjoyed this wine!

Tasted double-blind, the fine smoky crushed rock and lemon aromas led me immediately to burgundy. Color is spot on, with no signs of premature oxidation. Palate is elegant and restrained in style but has depth, and the juicy acid just spills over into making your mouth water with each sip. Guessed 1er cru Puligny, high quality producer, 2007-2008 - didn't think it had enough richness to guess Chassagne or Meursault... but that's why blind tasting is hard. Excellent stuff.

Two consistent bottles. Both yellow with touches of gold. Not unmistakeably Coche, but it still would have been my first guess. Deft touch of oak, good acid and fruit, everything balanced. Maybe not for the next 20 years, but this should drink well now and for the next 5-7 years.

Wood framed, honeysuckle nose that jumps from the glass with citrus peel and iron. Full bodied with good delineation, there is some fine flavor saturation here. I think I preferred the precision of the '07 tasted two weeks ago but that is mostly stylistic. Still great village Meursault. The depth is impressive. Drink over the next few years. (91)

Absolutely could only be Coche with its whiffs of matchstick, beautifully seasoned oak and dense, chewy fruit. Great power and poise and doesn’t look at all like an 06, showing more restraint and tension. It finishes with a real chewy, chalky feel and is very long, juvenile and good.

Nose: Intense lemon zest, wax and minerals. Feels very young as you can sense the tinging sensation from the freshness. But after about 15 - 20 min the nose was gradually shutting down
Palate: Performing at its own level, I would not consider its overall performance to be "spectacular" (which was what I thought the 2001 Coche Dury Meursault village was a few years back). Ample fruits surrounding the smoothly crafted mid-palate, but it seems like something is missing. The wine itself doesn't seem to present any intellectual dimension that I noticed in the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 vintages of the same wine. It almost felt like it was too primary (unsophisticated) and boring. Even after 2 to 3 hours in the glass the wine doesn't seem to evolve much at all. I guess I caught it in a dumb phase. Maybe it needs a few years in the bottle but I would definitely not purchase this wine given its price tag if I were to rely on my judgement solely from this tasting.

The next Meursault village sports a medium intense straw core and a green tinge. The medium intense, precise nose offers up notes of hazelnuts, toast and honeyed peach, but the overall impression is one of finesse. This wine too, has a medium-plus body complemented by medium-plus acidity yet is its polar opposite. The mid-palate fruit expands the pitfruits with fresh apricots which –combined with the C-D trademark ultra-refined smooth texture– buffers the structure to the point where one has to seek out the acidity for description purposes. Added notes of fennel bulb and a slight chalky mineral touch lend some lift after all and a minor nit to pick is that the finish packs it in after 15 seconds of refined medium-plus intense enjoyment. For drinking now, this may have been the best young wine of the evening. For me this is worth 90 points and while an extra point may not be impossible, one wonders if it’s worth the risk considering the price of admission. TN Mike de Lange.

Dinner at the Book Bindery in Seattle with J&M (Seattle Washington): Obviously very Coche on the nose, but a bit more reserved and cool on the palate than I would have thought for the vintage. A beautiful mild summer’s day here in the valley so I grabbed a bottle of recently arrived 2006 Coche-Dury Meursault and headed off of Vintners for a leisurely lunch. With first glass poured the wife and I entered into a discussion as to whether anyone else made better Village level white Burgundy (a discussion that I’m sure most of you have regularly with your spouses) and came to the conclusion that Roulot certainly did with their ‘lieu dit’ wines but in a much different style.
Anyway onto the wine….there should be a slice on the ‘aroma wheel’ dedicated to Coche matchstick, it is such an identifiable trait and highly desirable component to most Coche wines and this had it in spades. There were also whiffs of ripe peach, aniseed, a little mint and some citrus fruits. In the mouth it was rich and textured with ripe orchard fruits and a little orange pulp playing lightly on a bed of minerals. Whilst the whole package is ripe some chalky acidity cleans everything on the back-end and ensures that the fruits don’t get too boisterous.

allowed 3 hours bottle breath; nose is superb with a lot of fruits, floral and oak influences; the bouquet is powerful yet charming; spices, nuts and toasts on palate; lack good acidity; a superb village to match its' price; 93 for nose and 88 for palate

Light straw. Toasted oak, roasted corn and white fruit nose. Initially a bit oaky on the palate, but integrates beautifully with air. Turns into a real stunner. A consistently impressive village. (93)

Two consistent bottles. Both yellow with touches of gold. Not unmistakeably Coche, but it still would have been my first guess. Deft touch of oak, good acid and fruit, everything balanced. Maybe not for the next 20 years, but this should drink well now and for the next 5-7 years.

Typical matchstick, mineral aromas. Good acid and fruit. Delicate with very fresh finish. Not like a typical 06 at all.

Opened at 7pm. Not decanted
Color: Pale yellow. Very young looking

It is accessible and enjoyable. Do not worry. It is not too young however it needs 6 to 24 hours to be fully opened.

Very drinkable now, with a much younger projected aging curve than the 04/05/07 troika. Drink em while the others rest.

Typical sprawly and wild coche nose. Not a very fat wine, but almost liquirice-type fruit, with a very long finish. Good acidity, and hence balance, as always in Coche.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Zwethheul **, Schipluiden, Netherlands): Very oaky but little or no toast; very deep, minerality, great energy and tension, hints of fruit and caramel, excellent length. PC level. Drink 2011 - 2016.
