Pale lemon, nose of peach, pear, apricot, lemon & wet stones. Decent bodyweight, touch oily and strong acidity. On the palate more peach, pear, ripe apple, apricot, lemon, lime & wet stones. Long. Very good. Intense and fresh and really well balanced. Drinking lovely but more to come in my view.

Loire Match 2020. Entry level wines of Guiberteau Saumur, Brendan Slater West Saumur, Boudignon Anjou, Belargus Anjou. This was an attempt to find every day alternates to white burgs, which I find quite ridiculous in price point these days.
Guiberteau Saumur 2020: Quite muted nose, on the reductive side with wet rocks scents followed by a rich mouthfeel, with good depth, and a limey and quinine infused bitter finish. I quite liked this medicinal and stony wine, slowly but surely building on the outstanding stony bitter finish, with the only issue being a nit of warmth which disappeared on day 2 . (13.5 deg of alc). Means this will age weel, and very good, on the rich and powerful side.
Slater West Saumur 2020: a reduced nose, with poached pears and wet rocks scents mingling with petroleum notes; a rich and silky mouthfeel, good depth of flavors and as well bitter infused limey finish without heat although ticking at 14 deg alc. There is more power here in the finish, but also more rusticity than the preceding wine. Very well made wine and very recommended.
Belargus, Anjou Noir. 2020 No reduction here, inviting floral and white peach scents, the mouth is very fine on its juicy white fruits and lime flavors, perfect acid sugar balance, fine silky textures, ending in a chiselled, minerally rich finish. No trace of alcohol and perfect balance, punches well above its level. Potential to age. Tie with Boudignon, in a different, less sharp style but beautifully textured and balanced.
Boudignon: Airy scents of white blanched almond milk, marzipan, yellow pear, and citrus, followed by a pure, highly delineated mouthfeel, taut and lean, all lime and citrus, yet rich and perfectly balanced, extremely long and precise, staining the buds for a minute. 12.5 deg so picked early. WOTN (In a sharp style) a tie with Belargus, brilliant.

Pnp, then retasted after one day. Pure and sharp, mineral and vivid, almost green at end palate. This need decanting and a real dish, perhap a roasted chicken with herbs. Very good potential for cellaring. Needs three more years for a new evaluation. 89-92

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours --
NOSE: expressive; rich; smells "soft"; bright.
BODY: medium-light bodied.
TASTE: high acidity, with some smoky mineral; lime and kumquat; good stuff --- crazy this is the entry-level bottling. Pretty much on par with the 2015, and better than 2019. Excellent.

Another pass at this one and maybe I was just in a better mood for it - but it hit all the right notes and was no longer in competition with the outstanding Fremine Savennieres. On its own terms it’s very satisfying. Similar notes to last time - strong minerality more evident this time around. Love Boudignon wines. Score: 91-92. Relative to expectations:++

Fresh with a little flint on the nose. A bit of lemon curd. Extract and mouth watering acidity at the finish. A bit of yeasty leasy savoriness extends it. while lacking in precision on flavor, it has it in structure. 4 days in the fridge and its still solid and superior texture and tons of persistent mineral zing. Nice now but this is a HOLD. 91+

Have not tasted Chenin for a long time, amazing grape , needs food though. The Loire Valley has so many gems, Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Chenin, plus all the other grapes, France I love your diversity.

Not in the same league as the Boudignon Savennieres we had a few months ago but also a wine with a different and more laid back purpose. This was marked by its verve and freshness and- while it is not as deep or complex as the Savennieres , still has an intriguing tension between crisp green apple acidity and ripe butteriness. The acidity wins, but not without giving an edge of popcorn, verbena, toast and vanilla to the splendid apple and pineapple tastes. Lovely. Score : 91. Relative to expectations : ++

Brisk and invigorating on the nose with tart lemons, pineapples, with some chalk and lemon verbena tones. Zippy and tart on the nose with lovely freshness and deep texture. The pineapple and lemon fruit is ripe and fresh, and mixes well with crushed oyster shells, saline and some nettle and floral tones. Lively, pure and delicious.

Bill & Crew - Offline #2 - Hartsyard Farewell: Blind. Lemon, pear, florals, graphite and just a touch of herbs in the background. Palate is a good mix of rich fruit and layers with the sweet fruit, fairly prominent acid and light herbs. Think this would benefit from some time.

Peu complexe mais précis, tendu et assez froid pour du chenin, quelques années de garde devrait lui être bénéfique. Très bon. 90+?
