I've never tried these so wanted to pop one young and get a sense of for the wine. (5/5) - color is a gorgeous dark ruby red. (12/15) - A bit one dimensional even after being open a few hours. Tar, olive, licorice. Fruit and any spice seemed to really be hiding (17/20) - This is where it was most clear this was opened too young. Ripping tannin, acidity in balance but still noticeable. Carried very earthy notes of tobacco, tar, olive again, dark fruit. (7/10) - I'm not sure I immediately get the allure but it is still a fantastic wine that will absolutely improve with a couple decades and more of longevity ahead of it. Will try not to open another until 2030.

Obviously drank before the optimal drinking window, it was already quite enjoyable, especially on day 2. Dark fruit, interesting herbs (thyme, mint), some bacon and bloody red meat come through within the bouquet. On the palate it is quite mouth coating with powerful but fine tannins, they were better integrated on day 2. This score is for right now, but I expect this wine to gain 2-3 points in 5-10 years since it has undeniable tons of potential.

Again, stunning wine for the (now) Italian price of 55 Euros. Again, I opened this so young, but it's still a treat. Still have three more bottles. Hold on to it!

Bottle #08612, decanted for several hours in spite of being quite young, I find this wine very approachable. surprisingly velvety mouthfeel, loads of dark fruit, but with sufficient structure to frame it nicely, lovely dry long finish. this was an impressive bottle and more than I had expected. Drink or Hold.

Absolutely fabulous wine. Fruit forward and made up of rusty metal, cherry and chocolate aromatically. In mouth its iron, with tight tannins at play, vanilla, and sweet plum. What a great wine experience. If you decant for 8 hours then this is ready now and likely a 94 score from me if I had waited another day to resolve the tannin.

Day 1: tightly coiled dark fruit/earth with tannins. Seems fresh, but so hard to tell. Day 7: finally began to open, barely. If you want to check in on this, it’s pointless. I would wait another 5–10+ years before trying.

Consistent and delicious. Purchased for around $50 in Rome. Luscious, ageworthy, fruity, but with a pleasing tannic backbone that reminds me of the Northern Rhone. I am going to have to lock the others up for a while. One can enjoy this now but the future will reward.

Pop and pour and tasted in generic wine glasses. Enjoyed with a plate of mortadella con tartufo, speck di asiago, taralli and mozzarella di bufala. Dark purple color. Nose shows a little funk - grandpa's slippers (feet and leather). Some ripe plum and cherry notes too. Nice bright intro with the plum and cherry highlights, with a cedar, forest floor following. Light in the mouth. This was better with food than when tasted later in the day on its own.
First Emidio Pepe for me. Mid quality cork. 14%abv. Purchased in Italy. has a "Triple A" sticker on it.

Two Months in Roma; 9/6/2022-10/28/2022 (Rome, Italy): From the wine list at Roscioli Salumeria, Rome. Another dinner at Roscioli another bottle of Pepe. Wanted to share this with friends as they discovered the Pepe here at our urging back before COVID. Working its red fruited magic again with wonderful tortellini!

Nose of dark berries and earth. Lots of youthful fruit, tannins and energy but open juicy open and enjoyable to drink.

Delicious, but needs a steak with a bold crust.

Euro version, purchased in Italy. Promising material underneath, but too much brett to enjoy.
