Prompted by an I'll Drink to That podcast with Michael Moosebrugger (thanks Levi!), I opened this bottle with tonight's dinner. 7 years post release it has slimmed down, and now presents a primary mineral base, with overtones of apple and peach fruit. The balance is quite fine, and the finish is both salty and fruity. There's not much in the way of aged characteristics at this point. Rather the wine is drinking well in a very early maturity phase.

Progressing nicely, with no trace of heat even though the baby fat has largely worn off this wine. It's a bit more golden that I would expect, but that's likely attributable to the ripeness of the vintage, and the fruit is quite tropical. There's a bracing acidity that was missing from the wine on release, so the loss of that baby fat is a plus. I might drink most of the bottles I have soon, as it's in a pretty nice place right now.

Light straw colour. Aromas of limette and limette peel, peach and sugar cane. On the palate very fruity with balanced acidity , fresh. Long, grapefruity finish with some bitterness.

2006 Gaisberg and Heiligenstein Riesling (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): The only wine that was a shade deeper than the others. Deeper aromatic pitch too, with riper stone fruits, pineapple, and even some strawberry on the nose. Slightly weightier than the preceding Gaisberg, viscous, not overtly fruity palate, a tad low in acidity, but pulled together by an endless, earthy finish. I preferred this to the prior wine.

Austrian Rieslings Part I (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Lush nose of cotton candy and mango. Not nearly as sweet or lush on in the mouth. Well balanced with nice weight and medium, lemony acidity.
