Really getting late now for this one; robe faded as one might expect; no tannins left but good acidity: actually this tastes more like a 10-year old PN from Cotes de Nuits or Cotes de Beaune...crisp, clean finish...than a 46-year old claret....

Proper good old claret. Very dusty nose, but a very vegetal edge with tobacco and eucalyptus. Fruit is rather faded, but the blackcurrant is just about there. Lovely lean mouthfeel that has a mineral edge and just glides across the tongue with grace. Acidity is good, tannins are actually there! Quite a long finish as well. Did wonders with beef burgundy.

Gotta say, I was surprised and how well this was drinking. Cork was a shambles, decanted and served immediately. Tea notes and soft red fruits were on the nose. Wine was soft with hints of umami/mushroom and light tea notes. Probably was better a decade ago. Still had the original pricetag - 18.99.

Pale color, turning towards brown, and a bit light by itself, but still wonderful with food. No great rush to drink, but certainly won't improve.

Mature but not old - some barnyard and funk, but lovely as always.

One more example of how wonderful the 70s are drinking right now. Soft, subtle, complex and truly lovely. Textbook mature claret.

WineSpectator Forums Offline; 7/29/2011-7/30/2011 (Piperade, San Francisco): From Magnum. Cloudy, light bodied, hint vegetal on the nose; palate still has some hints of red fruit, light. Overall still enjoyable but well over the hill.
