Very enjoyable cab. It will probably last for a while, but I'm not sure it will get any better.
As an aside, I've had more recent C&S wines that drank very well young (and I generally prefer to age reds), but this was only my second experience with one of their earlier wines. This one was in a good place, but I did have a "funk" issue similar to the comment before this one with the '05. Hopefully that's not a trend that spreads to more recent vintages too.

Decent fruit and body; funky notes seemed like brett or similar taint, not horrible but dominated the impression, metallic hints with some chemical hints; decent finish but not right.

Don't know if it's bottle variation or my variation. Ten months ago, I thought this was headed downhill, but last night's bottle was just fine. Cassis and charcoal (smoke) on the nose. Same on the palate, but, after an hour of air, it began to exhibit a lot of semi-sweet chocolate. Medium body, but a long, fruit-driven finish. Probably AT its peak right now, so it's probably time to drink up.

Only five months after tasting this for the first time since its release, i was a little disappointed. The nose and flavor components on the palate were about the same as in July, but the texture seemed more austere, and the finish seemed a lot shorter. Don't know if it was bottle variation or my variation, but it could not have gone so far downhill in only five months. I guess time will tell.

The Spectator's 2011 "Drink By" date was way off, because this wine is drinking beautifully right now. Opened (not decanted) about 60 to 90 minutes before tasting. Plenty of plums and black fruit, along with pumpkin pie spices. Very integrated and well balanced, with a terrific texture and a reasonably long finish. WOTN at a wine tasting party.

Took a rather long time to open. Drinking well with desserts at end of night. Opened at a tasting event and this wine held up better than most. Excellent balance among fruit tannins and acidity. Lovely fruit on nose. Cinnamon and warm spices on palate.

Opened and glass decanted shortly before serving. Followed over about 2 hours. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, fairly clear hue. Nose of violets, boysenberry, plums and black berries. Flavors of boysenberry, black berries and a bit of black cherries over the medium finish. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink over the shorter term.

Pop and pour. Nice right out of the bottle, with dark cherry fruits and some oak, which became much more prominent as the bottle opened up. This probably can't withstand too much decanting as it seems a bit thin at present; curious to see evolution and the extent to which the oak diminishes. The 2001 Stone Place is among our favorite wines, and a top qpr.

Tasted October 5, 2007. Not as good as the previous bottle. Decanted 1 hour. Purple color in the glass, slightly dusty looking. Nose was muted early on giving way to some aromas of balsamic, currants and white pepper. Fairly juicy flavors of boysenberry and black berries. Medium acidity, firm tannins, full body. Maybe holding a little longer will work some of the funk off the nose.

Opened 2 hrs before drinking. Big, thick red. Deep purple color with a ring of bright red around the edges. Lots of bright red fruits (plums & cherries), oak, & sage. Medium tannins. A little too green and alcoholic for my palate. The merlot in this wine gives it a little more class and structure than I expected. Average finish. Not a bad wine, but not a great one.

Tasted June 30, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel tasting glass. Dark purple to crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of fresh flowers, sliced plums and crushed black berries. A little mocha as well. Flavors of plums, black berries, Bing cherries and licorice. Medium acidity, medium tannins. Medium bodied. I’d recommend holding at least one more year or be prepared for at least an hour in the decanter. 2008 might be a better choice. Based on the local retail price of $62.04 I’d say the value here is between agreeable and recommended.
