WT's. Color showed a little age (lighting was very poor and it was full-on dark outside by this time), but its owner was pleased with the appearance. On the palate, applesauce, pear, preserved lemon, a little salted caramel, meringue, and hazelnut. Outstanding, WOTN.

The wine is still going. Wonderful. Fresh cut flowers on the nose. What an exceptional mouth feel. Yellow apples and pears on the palate. As the bottle took on more air, the minerals started to come to the forefront.

Light yellow. Very light on its feet. Zesty minerality, lemon, honeysuckle. Not as oily or unctuous as Condrieu can often be. Never would guess varietal in a blind tasting. Still very young- plenty of fruit, not a hint of oxidation.

Very delicate and showing mature at this point. Light and lacy over any idea of the overtly floral characteristics of Viognier of what one might expect. Much better at cellar temp of ~55 deg as any cooler kills the nuance. More white minerality comes through than I have detected before. Well worth the seeking out.

I find it almost easier to say what this wine wasn't rather than what it was. All recollections of cousin Condreiu swept aside--nothing heavy, musky, peachy, alcoholic, lactic or flabby here. (Actually I'm a big fan of a good Condrieu too.) Pale straw with even some hints of green. I was told to give a long decant and not to chill. Maybe 2 hours decanting at cool cellar temp wasn't quite enough yet this was moderately open, but more significantly this was structured--imposing even--with freshness and length and great drinkability.

Paglierino giovanile. Naso austero e minerale (sasso di fiume) poi fiori di campo, pesca bianca, anice, lievi sentori mielati, agrumi. In bocca è fresco e minerale, con ottima lunghezza giocata sule note agrumate. Soffuso ed elegante

Pale straw colored, nose of dried peach, honeysuckle and hyacinth, bone dry, with lovely bright acidity and without any heaviness or heat that are the downfall of many Viognier based wines. This is lovely and longer lived than I would imagine

This wine is drinking very well. Nose of dried fruits, lemon cream and hyacinth. Big and lush on the palate with notes of dried apricot, peach skin, golden pear and butterscotch on the finish.

Northern Rhone Dinner (Pavillon & Grillet) (Roswell, GA): A darker more oxidized look to this compared to the '06 & '04, though not giving up a lot the nose is very earnest instantly commanding your attention, there is a good bit of ripeness but in a larger frame that can handle it and maintained some balance, the fruit is creamier and had a density that you had to appreciate, going from memory it is hard to describe the exact fruit but this had so many layers; this could deserve a higher score but I just did not find the minerality that I was hoping for.

100% +1 neurowine1... Are u in my tasting group? ? Can't write it any better. Perfect aging right now. It is a wow wine. Nose similar to fav. white bordeaux (haut brion). A swirl of incredible lusciousness. Stone and star fruit bursting on your palate but finishes dry and almost austere. What a wonderful juxtaposition!
OMFG! This is absolutely gorgeous. Delicate and nuanced, but with laser beams of white stone fruits, white flowers, and honey. Multilayered and incredibly complex. The class is so apparent. This is a very special and unique wine to be shared with those who appreciate such things. It is a bit understated so those who like big whites may not get it. For me, it was an atom bomb of a wine.

Dinner at Le Bernardin (Le Bernardin, New York): Very good, but this was almost painfully young even at 7 years of age. It was a bit tight even on the nose, with subtle but beguiling shades of mineral, beeswax, chalk and a background of honeyed pear aromas. Nice, but not quite as expressive as one would expect at this stage of its development. The palate had the nice creamy richness, with the slightly oily texture of Rhone Viognier. However, this was laced with beautiful bright acidity, with a streak of citrus notes spearing its still stubbornly unexpressive white fruited base. Young and tight as it was, there was still a lovely depth and breadth to the wine wed to a real sense of focus and definition - it was almost linear, laser-like as it raced into a strong finish, where pear and beeswax nuances were underscored by a tremendous stony minerality that just refused to quit. I loved the balance on this - it was beautiful with both a raw blue-fin tuna dish and a fluke sashimi. Still too young, but there is so much promise - one to try again in 3 years.

Light robe, and a wine which is bally light on its feet. Lean, mineral, igneous rock- like in nose and palate, hornblende minerals and feral, with subtle stone fruits and a lingering acidity and backbone. Simply sublime, poised and a super balanced wine, drinking well now and will age splendidly.

pale yellow color. delicate fruit nose... tree fruits like pear and apple. This is my first time tasting Ch. Grillet, but I was expecting a bigger, more floral viogner nose. It was definitely more restrained than I thought it would be. There was a nice creamy body underlined by crisp acidity, and a refreshingly bitter finish. Almost petrol flavors on the palate. I was a bit surprised by a touch of spicy oak character - obviously a barrel-fermeneted white with good lees contact. Overall impressive.

A fairly delicate viognier. Wouldn't have guessed that this was six years old as this still seemed quite young and fresh. Not particularly floral or showy on the nose, but this wine had plenty of crisp peach and pear fruit flavors.

White Icons @ my place (Netherlands): The bouquet is not very expressive, rather modest and subtle. There is some oak wafting out of the glass, not much more. On the palate this is also very understated which is quite remarkable for a viognier. Picked up some impressions of Poire Williams, chamomile tea and apricot. In fact, I really liked this serene take on the variety. It's very soft and mild, and has quite a good acid backbone (!). Well balanced, aristocratic and pure, not too heavily perfumed or sweet. Considering the fairly negative press this has had over the years, I was surprised and impressed. But the price remains a problem... 17/20

Pale. Subtle nose with stone fruit pit aromas. Little Viognier florality or high tones. Medium to light with outstanding acidity for this varietal. One could only fault it for a tad of mid-palate dilution. I am not a fan of Rhone whites, but this was excellent and as unique as its appellation suggests it should be.
