Loire Night (San Francisco): Tasted blind-guessed 2007 Muscadet with wood like Clisson. Medium yellow. Some citrus. Chalky feel, fuller than usual Melon. Zingy acidity, great liveliness. Amazing aged Muscadet.

A private lunch (Restaurant Epicure ***, Hotel Le Bristol, Paris): Ten months sur lie, no malo, no oak. Intense but lively colour, light for age; concentrated nose, ripe citrus and aromatic herbs, fresh as a daisy, powerful saline lift, lemon cream, waxy depth, hints of tropical fruit and flower honey; there is a lovely richness of fruit to the attack, the palate is dry but juicy and fresh, with crisp acidity and a whiff of sea air on the back palate; very good aromatic persistence on the long and complex finish. Has developed marvellously over two decades, incredibly youthful but now at peak.

MuscaDay 2015: A bit closed and muted at first but shows a lot of minerals, melon, chalk. Not too briny, moderately floral, similar to the 2002 in its structure, but with a bit less verve.

Louis/Dressner Tasting with all the Winemakers (E&R, Portland, OR): Smells like a hard cheese rind. Really rich and fantastic. Again, rich and thick on the palate, with some prominent minerality but lots of melon as well. Thick and rich. Slightly muted upon swallowing, but then slowly the volume turns up as it builds complexity with a rich covering of acidity. Nice.

Cork turned to mush - came out in pieces - the rest unfortunately fell into the bottle. we used a Nuance which did the trick to filter the wine. At this age it didn't hurt to decant which helped the wine to develop further. However, the wine was not corked. color is deep straw with brown hue. very aromatic with green stone fruits, mangosteens and seashells. lean, ethereal midpalate - delicate saline, green fruit with long finish. there's a bit of phenolic bitterness in the finish which is natural for these whites and are quite harmless. the wine has aged gracefully and still feels very youthful. i feel like this could hang for another 10 years but worried about the cork already failing, folks should probably drink up.

Intense yellow hues indicative of the aging. Fragrant nose with dominant granny smith apple, floral elements and light petrol. Elegant, refreshing entry on the palate with a nice balance of acid, fruit and minerals. Green apples dominate the mid palate closing with a crisp long finish of sour apples and a tinge of bitterness.

Leo's Blind Tasting Group - Jan '12 edition (Montclair, NJ): Lighter and not as complex as the '89; this comes across even younger with fresh lemony fruit over a bed of rocks seasoned by bright herbal and minty accents. Beneath there's a spine of bright acidity that keeps it incredibly fresh and lively, though when unveiled this didn't seem much more developed than an '02 L D'Or I had opened some time ago.

To decant or not? 2006 Pinot Noir and a few more: Golden in color. The nose is very pretty with aromas of limes and crushed shells. On the palate, it is a bit soft/flabby at first. it improves with air, but never has that bite I really like about Muscadets. Otoh, it is very complex and that is the only clue to how old it is. Nice finish.

The ample acidity showed on the nose, and carried through on the palate. In many ways, it tasted more chablis than muscadet. stones and minerals on the palate....lingering finish

Very enjoyable bottle. Still youthful, pale color. A mix of maturing and young flavors. The nose is mostly sea shell minerals, tonic, and also some flavors of chicken stock, almost like a mature Chablis. Good acidity, not as lively as a bottle a few years ago.

Villa Dixon Degustation: As always, very reliable. High acidity with green melon flavors and salty/briny finish. Proverbial sea breeze in a glass. Good match for food.

Looks incredibly young. Light straw/pale yellow color. No sign of age and/or oxidation. Interesting marzipane and oily lemon on the nose with a hint of petrol that reminds ever-so-slightly of old Riesling. On the palate, this is liquid minerals with lemon zest. Drinking this reminds me of the taste of an oyster on the half-shell with some lemon juice and sea salt garnish. Just delicious. Was a great pairing with seared scallops.

Initially not a lot showing. Doesn't have the in-your-face freshness and bite of a young Muscadet. Then as it sits in the glass, some stony complexity begins to emerge on the back end. Finally, a very good wine that went pretty well with potato pancakes topped with creme fraiche and caviar. I am still not sure whether I think Muscadet improves over 10 years, but it certainly is alive and good. I am convinced enough to put away a few bottles of the current releases to see what happens. My discrete CT scale: 95-extraordinary; 90-very good; 85-good; 80-fair; 75-poor

Just hauntingly good. While this could age effortlessly for years and years, it is in a great place now. Crushed rocks, white flowers, a little brine, all delivered in a nearly weightless package.

A small sendoff for Salil as he moves to flyover country and a happy birthday to Jay! (Chelsea Wine Storage.): Showing beautifully. It's mature and has taken on that Chablis-like character, though is in no danger of falling off soon. Lots of mineral, crushed oyster shells, citrus, star fruit and a strong spearmint note on the nose and palate. Vibrant with age-softened edges to the acid structure. Just delightful. A-.

My parents liked it. I found it too bitter for my liking.
Update: On day 2, with Indian curry, this wine was very nice. Not sure if it was day 2, or the curry, but I'm upping the rating from 84 to 88.

Pretty straightforward this time; not quite as zippy fresh or evolving as the 1990 was recently. But good and incredibly moreish.
