  • Mid red and a farmy nose. Fruit a little skinny and did not really improve. More than enough acidity and elegant but can't help thinking for the vintage it could have been better.

  • Decanted nearly 2 hours, served in Grassl Cru stems next to the '02 Hospice Mazis. Much brighter and lighter than the Mazis, quite pretty red fruits, vibrant and bouncy, especially nice feel in the mouth. No sign of the pipe tobacco from last bottle, this one was all about new sun-warmed leather and red fruits. There's definitely some earthiness and a bit of bumpiness - no, more nubbiness. This is not smooth or elegant, but it is exceptionally pleasing to drink and brings out quiet different elements in the coq au vin - where the Mazis and the bacon were fooling around in a corner, this was flirting unabashedly with the mushrooms and the onions. I really like how this wine is coming along

  • Based on prior notes, gave this about an hour decant before serving alongside a roast chicken. Right out of the gate, this shows powerful black fruit, pipe tobacco, a little earthy funky sweaty thing, perhaps a little ginger. The mouthfeel is serious with dusty edges. I really like how this is showing, after a few ungainly bottles over the last few years. Some bits of barrel toast around the edges don't detract. So happy to find this finally showing as I'd have it show, with plenty of class and pedigree, as well as power from the vintage. Very good value.

  • This did not show so well when we opened on a year ago, so this time we gave it nearly 2 hours in the decanted before sampling. Much more generous on the nose, with some candied red fruits, pine needles and some rustic earthy notes. Still a bit rough around the edges and far from plush, but definitely giving real Burgundy pleasure this time around. There's class and breeding here, if not a ton of complexity or depth. Maybe some more will come in time. It will be fun to follow and see if the 2005 ripeness ever show itself.

  • Not showing much right now other than a mid-weight, restrained earthy burgundy profile. The structure is good, and the wine is reasonably balanced, just not a lot going on right now. It came out of its shell more when paired with a lovely mushroom/ricotta toast. I will reserve judgment for a few more years, as I don't think this 2005 is in a good place.

  • Thin, watery, slightly volatile. I have no idea what happened here, but this was not a good bottle.

  • This is very tight on the opening and actually needs at least an hour to blow off. This is a very earthy wine with damp soil, mushrooms, pine needles, and cranberry. Somewhat disappointing for the vintage as the fruit is masked by the earthiness. A decent finish and balanced tannins help this on the finish.

  • This wine was drunk over 2 days. On day one the wine had a dumb nose with hints of on being on the verge of breaking open. Palate, however, was totally in shut down mode. Dry, sinewy and with flavors of herbs and dried cherries.
Day 2: Still taut with tension but more expansive on palate . I can sense the promise behind the scaffolding and this is classic Premeaux-side NSG with a saline and taut feel to the palate.

  • 89-90 Pts. This is nice red burg, probably still young, but I think this will always be missing that "wow" factor. All in all, well made, ripe fruit, good balance, reasonable QPR value. Drink over the next 5 years...AMM

  • 89-91Pts. This wine was exactly as I expected, probably a little young, but great with a meal. Medium colored Pinot with a muted nose, probably should have been opened 1 hour+ before drinking. Fuller red fruit flavors of sour cherries, cranberries raspberries. Subtle earth and brush aspects, that add depth. Some ripeness that blends with enough acid to be refreshing. Soft tannins that were very nice. Drink over the next 3-5 years...AMM

  • Medium bodied wine with a muted nose. Light/Medium color. Balanced flavors, mostly sweet red fruits. Some complexity and a little earth. Highish acid with light tannins. Good juice, interesting to see if this develops. Drink over 5 years...AMM

  • Dark ruby color. Earthy red fruit aomas follow through on the palate. Good acidity, full-bodied, with a nce, long finish. The most complete of the Rion wines thus far.

  • Medium grayish cherry color with pale meniscus; earthy, sous bois and chlorine nose; sous bois, pinched, tart cherry and oak palate that fizzles mid-palate; short finish
