  • Too old in the nose, this bottle didn't convince me.

  • Decanted briefly. Initial strong barrel notes blew off quickly, mature, leathery, red currant, red cherry, sappy tobacco and herbs, rocky slate/gravel mineral. Drink now.

  • Tight dark fruit, cherry, some chocolate on the nose. The palate is more expressive with savoury red fruit, tobacco and cola. Still tannic, good structure and long finish.

  • The nose shows very bright raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. In the background there's a lot of cola and tea. The palate is beautifully balanced, shows berry fruit and more secondary characteristic particularly the fruity cola. Very full, very powerful, yet also smooth without any jagged edges at all and a long finish, this still has many, many years ahead of it. The tannin, acidity and alcohol are all so balanced that you don't notice any of them. Correct, elegant and very enjoyable.

  • I have been lucky so far to drink six different vintages of Clos Mogador, and though I have mostly enjoyed this wine, it has never overwhelmed me. The 93 though did, and in my opinion is in a VERY different league right now than any other vintage I have tasted (91,92,94,95,99,2000), though I have yet to try the much-praised 2001. Hopefully I will very soon. 93 was an excellent vintage in Priorat, and this wine truly shows its greatness. On to my notes…

Dark ruby red with noticeable fading around the rim. Intense and fantastic aromas of chocolate, ripe wild fruits and loads of prunes. Full body with massive concentration, that is actually quite overwhelming, though pretty elegant and definitely not aggressive. Incredibly tasty flavors of wild fruits, plums, a little chocolate and some carob. Good balance, with now integrated though noticeable tannins, perfect acidity and just the right level of oak in the background. Huge finish that goes on for what seems forever, providing a very appealing aftertaste. Overall this is a blockbuster. A fantastic very rich wine that provides everything and more for true enjoyment. It is though very straight forward, yet loaded with personality, with a really enjoyable structure and feel. I would estimate this wine has at least five more years to reach its peak, with many more to hold it through for further cellaring. One of the best Priorats I have had so far!
