Double decanted mid afternoon for dinner in the evening. Translucent light to medium ruby color with no bricking. On first opening the nose was effusive with rose petals, tar, chocolate and cherry. The palate has medium to high acidity with some remaining un resolved tannins but still with a great textured mouth feel. Palate reflects the nose with some layers of additional spice and fruit like tart blackberry, red currant, anise and a little porcini and raisin on the finish which is quite long. This is delicious, nearly mature traditional Barolo. Delicious at about 9pm with Veal Oso Bucco...nicely softened and richly textured while still showing great fruit and secondary flavors.

Medium to dark but translucent garnet with just a tinge of brick on the edge. Nose of underbrush, cherry, cedar, violets and a medicinal/spicy aroma. On the palate I get cherry, clove, cedar, earthy mushroom and a slightly tannic finish with some chocolate. Nicely balanced with plenty of life left. This does scream Barolo at the first sip. Better with some air.

Camphor and roses on the nose. On the palate, cherry and rose petal with notes of clove, anise, orange peel, and bitter tobacco, with no noticeable tannins and moderate acidity on the medium finish. For $30, it was a bargain.

Six courses on short notice with some great football: Decanted a 2-3 hours before drinking. It is medium to dark though still translucent garnet, darker than the 2008 Riserva we had next to it but little sign of its late-teen age. On the nose I get some earthy truffle, cherry and roses. This is a little more modern styled but still clearly Barolo, fairly big but not overdone in any way. Nicely balanced and good with the Pheasant and black rice.

An excellent example of how a Barolo benefits from 18 years of bottle age, that takes off the astringent tannic edge, making the wine more rounded, better integrated, soothing, and lets the fine red cherry and red plum fruit finally shine. Likely as good as this wine will ever get, but will remain eminently drinkable for at least another 5 years.

A great aged Barolo. Still had great fruit present but tannins and acidity were balanced. The age on it gave it some complexity and spices. Really blew me away at this price point. Highly recommend it.

Decanted at 5 pm and drunk over the next 6 hours. Medium to dark garnet color with little sign of age. Fresh nose of black cherry, lavender, earth and mushrooms. Medium to heavy weight in the mouth, with a rich and chewy texture. Flavors reflect the nose. Best at about the 3 hour point after decanting. Excellent with meatballs in a red sauce and with grilled loin lamb chops. Finish is a bit short but pleasant.

Very nice, medium to dark ruby. Young appearance. Nose has roses, cherry, licorice and plum. On the palate very round , a little earthy, but not huge. Good fruit, mostly red fruits and nice balance. Very enjoyable but a step or two below the other 2 baroli we had tonight (1958 Borgogno riserva and 1998 Rocche dei Manzoni Big d' Big)

Delicate cherry and raspberry fruit with a medium minus frame and medium plus acidity. Not as complex or floral as some Barolo, but a nice example, especially given the $24 I paid.

Menthol on the nose; on the palate, sour cherry, clove, roses, and lemon peel, with light drying tannins on the finish. This is neither a blockbuster nor delicate, but it is well balanced and has the typical Barolo flavors. The last few bottles of this have been much better than ones drunk a year or two ago.

Nice lightweight Barolo. Little unresolved tannin. Nice aroma of spice and red fruit. Flavors not explosive but the same spicy fruit in a silky package. Needs an hour or two to breathe and get to its best. Nice with a mild chili.

Gently decanted; I think it helped. Menthol and faint rose petal on the nose; tart red berries, light tar, and a faint lemon citrus note on the medium finish, with good acidity. This was the best of the bottles I have had so far.

Nose of menthol with a touch of honey; cherry and rose on the palate, with not enough fruit or body to balance the acidity. This bottle seemed to be past its prime, with oxidation outweighing the other elements. I have others that will hopefully perform better.

Delicious. Deep red color. Smells like a port (sweet). Soft, gentle flavors of licorice and cherries. A heavy wine with a very serious, mellow character.

Nice Pinot like color. Medium body but full flavored. Nose of berry vanilla spice box and mushroom. It got better progressively over 4 hours. There was some bottle variation among the 2 bottles we had with one much better evolved than the other. Not bad but definitely you could tell the difference. Plenty of life left in this elegant Barolo.

taste: nice and smooth with firm tannins of cherry and mint with hints of spice and tar
