  • This is my third tasting, and it is just shut down right now. I’ll sit on the rest for a few years before revisiting.

  • I served this in my wine course. Spicy earthy nose, full bodied, fairly ripe. Seems way to primal and needs time for the components to come together. Optimistic this will happen, but needs several years.

  • ruby coloured and medium bodied. a bit of dust on the bright red and blue berries in the nose, along with a healthy dose of pine needles, forest smoke, and hints of game. rather immediate berry flavour on the entry that unfolds with high-toned acidity and lovely spice notes. savoury and mineral vein grow in prominence in the back end and thru the finish. very polished tannins and very long.

showing well already and one that could peak in short term. there's some upside potential here. not clear on its long-term potential, as the structure is not quite apparent.

13.5% AbV; from 25-y.o. vines on an east-facing plot that allows for long hang times; fourteen months' ageing in oak (5% new).

  • Liked, didn't love. Had a nice density and a pure red fruited vibe that I liked. Also had a splintery texture and sorrel notes that I didn't.

  • Medium plus nose shows potpourri, rose petal, dark red cherry, wet rock, pomegranate. Palate nicely expressive, deeper fruit than their other wines, med light tannins are a little more serious, frames it very well. Finish shows youth, just a touch dry, tasty now probably better with some years on it.

  • I was really looking forward to a thorough and detailed tasting with Evan Martin, but on arrival at 10am for our appointment, we were informed he only had at most 30 minutes due to the not-totally-unexpected fact that he was going to have to start picking that morning. When the moment is right you can't wait. So, we had to run through a bunch of wines rather quickly. I took cursory notes and will not rate the wines as a result. Every previous experience with his wines on the whole has been excellent, I just had a hard time processing things as quickly as required and was not feeling my best either.
Evan has had access to 4 acres of this vineyard since 2015. It is a medium ruby garnet color. Higher density and darker than the Hyland, Strawberry, cherry and minerals with good bright acidity. Somewhat chewy. Long.
