Last bottle of this. Started off with a sharply dusty/earthy nose, but after some time in the decanter gave way to allspice and dried red fruit. Fully mature now, but still taut and firm, with supple tannin and sweet, smoky fruit. Lovely, and got better and better over the evening until as often happens, the last sip was the best.

This was a stunner. Cork was soaked, almost crumbled on opening, but ullage was just fine. Really rich dark cherry and spice on the nose. More rich fruit with licorice, characteristic wet brick, and black cherry on the palate. Kept developing exotic spices throughout. Perfect with smoked pork shoulder.

Nice very dark strawberry color to match its red fruit notes. Vibrant acidity and minerals, and perhaps a tad too much of that. A mouth filling and drying wine with sweet notes and a little Oak. It took over 30 minutes to fully come around.

Incredible value at 75$, my wotn in a night of six exceptional 90+ bottles. so much juicy acidity, exceptional terroir and fruit nicely integrated. Great with and without food.

Garnet and brick with medium viscosity in the glass. Rustic nose of sour red fruit, plum, citrus, crushed black pepper, cassis, green pepper and graphite. Secondary mushroom and olive. Med-full body with loads of nuance and character. Sour raspberries, pomegranate, plum, pepper, mushroom, toast and BBQ green pepper on the palate. Secondary slate minerals, mushroom, squash, olive and pine. Firm structure makes it a good food wine. Dusty and grippy tannin. More cellar time would help with balance. Med-long finish. Complex, but lack of polish prevents it from being excellent.

A big surprise! At first a strange nose, with glue, cherry, tea, mushrooms, leather and raspberry... On the palate very alive and with good complexity. Ripe red fruit, great acidity, licorice, tobacco, ripe tannines and with a long finish. Fresh and ripe, very alive and very good after almost 17 years.

1 hour in Decanter, color showed some browning, palate felt like older than the vintage, nose of dark fruits and minerals, no floral tones. Tannins are integrated but not silky, my first encounter of tis variety and not sure what to make of it yet. Not sure will improve with more cellaring.

Very different on the nose than on the palate. Nose was faint and slightly sour, this really shined on the palate. Great mouth feel, red fruits at the front and a good finish. Balanced and elegant.

OVER THE HILL!!!
Three bottles in a row: the bouquet is fragile but beautifull, the tast has an unpleasant and drying hardness. The drinking window for Clos Mogador is higly overestimated, even by Robert Parker.

The best showing of this wine for me (this is my 6th). Lovely expressive profile. loads of fruit, and tannis now seem integrated. I really liked it, and for once I am happy i have more.

Labor Day Weekend Brunch at Essex (Essex Restaurant (New York, NY)): Spicy, spicy and did I mention spicy? This was the clear crowd favorite which really brought out the flavors in the burgers three of the four of us were dining on. It is also worked quite well with the Monchego cheese I enjoyed. Quite complex, this wine seemed to swirl on its own in the mouth eventually giving way to a rather clingy finish. After tasting this wine, we stopped pouring all of the others. 'nuff said!

On opening, I thought this wine to be corked. The initial smell and front-end flavour profile were mildly of musty old wood. I wondered if this was not normal for the wine - truly it was similar to what I normally get from old-school Rioja. The good news is that most of this blew off after extended airing. The bad news is it didn't happen until my last glass of the night. Aside from this, the wine was huge and tight-fisted. There is a lot of material, no doubt, but huge tannins blocking current enjoyment. I'll admit that I don't have huge experience with Priorat, but so far my tastings of these wines push me more towards Chateauneuf in this category of blended Grenache-based wines.

The color revealed was a deep clean red. Aromas of minerals, sweet citric, cherry and a little cinnamon combined with what resembles a dry port in some way. Concentrated flavors, of slightly sweet fruit, with a very good balance of tannis, acidity and very little oak (but just enough to be noticed). Reasonably long finish. Overall a good solid red wine, that should be even better in a few years after a little more aging.

1995 Clos Mogador Priorat (Spanje, Catalunya, Priorat) Kleur: Diep donkerrood, duidelijk bruin.

Sigaren-as, cederhout, mokka, Smaak / Afdronk: Krachtige, bijna 'jonge' aanzet, tannines wat mij betreft iets tè drogend, iets tè stevig zuur. Algemeen / potentieel: Wijn is niet helemaal in balans, echter niet onaangenaam. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 11 + Algemeen / potentieel: 5 = 83/100
