38th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2011s (R&D's): I preferred this to the Geyserville between the ten year olds (which served as last night's warm up reds). Cherry, raspberry and bramble notes. Cherry, pepper and lush, ripe Zin fruit with a good finish. I thought the Ridge was a bit too ripe and rustic, whereas this just had really fresh and luscious red fruit.

First pop of the cork seemed to bring aromas of red wine vinegar... Decanted and this initial impression seemed to blow off. Medium ruby color, with red zin fruits on the nose. Light on the palate with briar spice, strawberries, black pepper, and with air starting to show some candied cherry. Mild touch of french oak on the finish. Well balanced and drinking fine at age 5.

I agree with pkbackman that this has been by far my favorite of the 2006 Biale's. Reminds me of the wines they made pre-2005. A lot of fruit, but not overdone. Tasty but not flabby. Big but not too hot. This was really a great bottle of wine. (Made better by the Lakers 25 point win!)
Very dark deep purple color to it. Getting somewhat of a smores nose to it along with dark fruits, blackberries in particular with a little oak hiding just beneath the surface and maybe the very faintest hint of petrol. Full bodied wine with ripe plum and dark fruits coming through and just a touch of earth all the way through the finish. Great balance to this. Nice acidity backing everything up to go along with a good amount of tannins that need a little time to be resolved.
All in all this was very tasty and something of a revelation considering the other '06s I've had.

Dark earth, deep plums and white pepper on the nose. Not as expressive a nose as other Biale Zins. Nice sweet blackberry liquer, chocolate and dusty earth on the palate with a good zippy 45 second finish.

Spicy earth, white pepper and some noticable alcohol on the nose. Nice blalnced blackberry fruit, earth and cedary spice on the palate. Not as full bodied as some other Biale zins, but very well crafted.

Nice nose of sun baked masonry, spicy plums, oregano and blackberries with just a hint of alcoholic heat. Smooth attack with some prominent mouth drying tannins on a very long finish. Still a baby, but very pleasant to drink young.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (Our house): Notes of dill, red and black fruit and florals. Good tannins and flavors of black fruit. Guessed Cab Sauv.

Our favorite so far of the '06 Biale Zins. Spicy Zinfandel fruit. Some earthiness. And very smooth. No heat at all on this one.
