It has a beautiful nose that expresses candied fruit, flowers, and bright citrus. Good sweetness on the entry which makes it so easy to like. It carries a silky smooth mouthfeel. More Chambolle than Gevrey.

Burg Dinner with Friends (Formento's - Chicago IL): Decanted for a couple of hours before serving. Black and red cherry with roasted meat and savory spice and dried herb. Very dense and powerful, most notably on finish. Kept getting better for the hour+ in glass. Barely entering its peak drinking window.

Very big red and black fruit on the nose. Super primary and sappy on the palate. This is like candy today and needs several years to become more interesting. But the material is certainly there. Quite polished.

Pnp, color is light garnet. Nose of modern sweet red and black fruit and but of eucalpytus. Good sweetness and fresh but low acidity, modern in style, more like a US Pinot sans the creaminess. Very slight hibt of bitter and grippy tannin. No big muscle here, but light and enjoyabe wine. Too pricy though.

Burgundy Dinner with Friends (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Open 2 hours before serving, but this still needs another decade in the cellar. Very large scaled black cherry and berry throughout, with some emerging Gevrey gamy and sauvage character. Long and powerful, even if not really evolved yet.

Nice dark cherry, toast, dried spices and earthy appeal. Good density and just a bit rough around edges. Grippy tannins and slightly rustic, yet solid core of dark red fruits promise an even better drink as this further integrates. Quite drinkable, but better days ahead.

Served blind. Virtually impossible to find the appellation but the nose screams quality producer. DRC and Roumier came to mind. This is very elegant for a Gevrey GC. Lovely spicy, dark, sexy fruit.

Les Grands Jours - lunches and dinners between tastings; 3/18/2012-3/22/2012 (Burgundy): Decanted approximately an hour before serving. Big spice to start coming from ripe fruit, new oak and meaty Gevrey character. Blackberry, black cherry and some blueberry flavors that are greatly complemented by very good acidity for the vintage. Moderate tannins and length. Probably entering its peak drinking window smewhat early, perhaps starting in 2015.

Solid but unspectacular. Brooding and dark.

Silky smooth and elegant. Vivid floral bouquet. That said, the complexity isn't there... and the finish is slightly abrupt.

Served blind. Shows real class and breed, this is going to be lovely, but it's too tannic and young for today.

Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): A little corked, but tragically so - this was all perfume and fruit scalped by just a bit of cardboard, and then a slight drying out on the palate.
