Deep and dense full ruby. Dark red fruit with a nicely earthy depth. Positive attack, quite rich, finely velvet with good density. Tannins largely integrated and powdery, nicely integrated with good acidity giving the sense of structure towards the finish with excellent density for a village wine. This is really quite decent. ***1/2

Ruby, marked browning to rim. Very earthy, some dark berries, smoke, undergrowth. Savoury. Smooth but still some noticeable tannins. Lovely complexity. Good length. Enjoyable.

1/1, good cork. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Developed, attractive, very Gevrey nose - meat, autumnal mulch, touch of smoke. Medium/full bodied, no shrinking violet this, with rich, mulchy, meaty dark fruit, resolved tannins, nice contrasting fresh, savoury acidity, good length finish with a touch of liquorice. Excellent, certainly ready but no signs of imminent decline.

Beautiful. A poorly stored bottle that delivered perfectly. Full and deep, certainly in the riper, more extracted style. But such perfect harmony, tannins melded away, lovely sous bois. Long. Not at all drying on the finish. Some say 99s need more time, but not this one. Although I think well stored bottles of this could go another decade easily. 18

Beautiful light ruby color that fades to a clear rim. Classic earthy, black cherry nose that screams soil and fruit. Deep and robust. Gorgeous, mature palate that mixes minerals with the red fruits of Burgundy. A sturdy wine that is drinking very well. Delicious village. (91)

Decanted an hour and drank this over the next 2 hours. Dark and brooding, and yet at times it seemed to show some promise of ripe, concentrated fruit alongside the structure it seems it will always have. Never really hit it's stride, and worried the fruit will not stand up to the tannins. Seems my last note was better. 99's can be so frustrating. B+/A-?

Opaque, sous bois and other tertiary aromas. Very smooth and meaty in the mouth, with a tannic start to the aftertaste. Very satisfying wine - at long last.

Bottle #2 of 3. PnP. Picking up steam in the last year. Still fullish bodied for a Burg, meaty, extracted, chewy. Crunchier red fruits towards the end of the 2nd hour lends credence that this is young, with a greenness (stems) and decent acidity emerging later in glass. A burly villages for sure, but this may surprise in 5-8 years. '99 vintage, baby! - starting to show in the village wines and lesser premiers.

A mature colour; quite a ripe nose of plum, strawberry and mushroom; mature fruit on the palate, medium weight and a little rustic; modest length. Still drinking well, but this seems fully mature and is unlikely to improve. For drinking, not keeping.

Agree with La Grappe's note below. Burly, rustic, I'd even say extracted and in a new world style. Not sure if this is for me. Let's see where this goes.

This is going to sound too esoteric, but in the desert there's a smell to rain that's coming but not 'here' yet, and for the first hour that was primary aroma of this wine. Beyond that concentrated dark fruit, loamy forest floor and spice with a hint of iodine were prevalent. Mature but not old, excellent for a 16 year old village wine.

A deep colour, a fresh but slightly restrained nose and mostly black fruits on the palate. Very clean and lively; perhaps lacking a little depth and richness, but quite long on the finish.

A deep colour, mature but not old. This has quite deep, concentrated fruit and good balance; the style is somewhat burly, even rustic, but it is very impressive for a village wine. Drinking well now, but should last for a few years at least.

Whoa baby....this is delicious. Deep ruby color. Gorgeous, meaty nose that just pops in the glass. Some saline elements add interest to the manly Pinot fruit. The palate is pure velvet - great impact from start to finish. I hoped this would be good but had no idea how good. (93)

90 minutes of air opened this up, but it really needs some more time. This is dense, concentrated, more northern rhone in profile - and will need some time. Expected for the vintage, and will be very nice. A-

Burg Blowout (Woodstock, GA): Possibly my favorite from the tasting; darkest and fullest color more purple; plum, leather, darker Pinot fruit, a bit of animal and black pepper; still great structure to go on living another 10 years at least, powerful and rich.

Brief initial aromas of dark gevrey terroir, faded fast. Mostly leather and after two hours some fruit. Just not a lot of love. Prior bottles of Mes Favorites, even from 2000, showed more fruit and typicity. Drink up.

Popped and poured. Solid wine, but still young in color and not giving as much fruit as I would expect. Still needs some time, and we did not give it enough air. Shows less Gevrey game, and not a lot of structure, but solid overall and hopefully will improve with time. B+/A-

Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore - Back to Basics 2012 (Absinthe, Bukit Pasoh): This was a solid wine - a very nice village. It had a lovely Gevrey nose of savoury earth and spice, some umami broiled chicken acents and lots of lovely red cherries and berries. The palate was delicious too, quite the quintessence of Gevrey again, with sappy flavours of cherries and raspberries all glowing with a gentle sweetness, and nice wafts of flowers, earth and spice towards the finish. The whole package was very nicely balanced by well-integrated acidity and a fine sense of structure that carried it into a long finish. Again, nothing incredibly complex or compelling about this wine, but it was just a downright delicious Gevrey-Chambertin at a wonderful place for drinking not.

Solid crimson red. Full dark fruit, earth and mushroom nose. Just wreaks of the soil (in a good way). Full weight, great flavor penetration, this a big village wine - not extracted - just big due to the age of the vines and the vintage. Still shows balance and verve. Excellent for the next ten or fifteen years. (91)

Solid black cherry, game and herbal flavors. Good acidity on the finish too. It might be lacking some breadth but it's got depth and intensity and is pretty good for a village wine.

A fine cherry/ruby colour with a hint of age and good depth of colour to the rim. This has a stunning rustic nose with decaying red fruits, spice and minerality. The mouth entry is richly sweet with succulent red and black fruit. Really good depth on the mid palate with nicely balanced acidity, and a full, slightly tannic finish. No great complexity, but very good length. Overall a tremendous villages wine. **
