  • Sandalwood aromas. Plums, a toss of earth and spice. Consistently good. 92

  • Lovely ruby color. Smokey nose. Primary flavors on the palate; earth fruit, spice.
Served with roasted rack of veal and mushroom medley Sautee.
I think it will benefit from another 2-3 years in the bottle.

  • This was very good, indeed. This gives sandalwood on the nose and the profile was interesting in that it seemed to move around quite a bit. Polished plum, earth and spice. No edges to this, but not to say it didn't have any grip. My wife said she liked it (and she rarely likes Burgundy) before I even tried it, but it wasn't modern. It was clean and with no rusticity at all. 92

  • Plum, hints of coriander, anise, mushroom; pure, linear and long lived, elegant and almost ethereal but too watery; still seems too young; superior, and surprisingly so, with food

  • showing age in glass, this is still quite young on the nose and palate. nice rootbeer notes, with black cherry, some smoke, and herbal notes. med(+) finish is nice.

  • I just now see that the bottle I taste, as I type, it's my my only bottle from this producer, for this vintage,,,and so let my loss be your gain...

It's not a total loss because this one adds to my 'Vintage 2005' point of view, and it's consistent in that it's good, and gets better as time goes by.

My short term advise, don't give advise.

In terms of 2005, burgs are better than Bordeaux, they are special, they might become great. They aren't great now, and the final opinion on the year, I don't hesitate to support.

I have sacrificed several 2005 Bourgs (Bourgogne, aka Burgundy, i.e. Burgs, Burgundy) since release, and tonight, I do it again.

Thankfully, and luckily, and perhaps predictably, they get better every time. The character of the vintage, I recognize, because it's been there every time. It's crisp, polished, and starts to grab me with texture that will continue to grow.

The picture; it's like this so far:
You see a beautiful portrait described by the real experts that experience, and experienced more than almost all of us will in terms of wine.
To my slightly experienced, still learning point of view: 2005 looks like a cliff with a sharp edge.

The cliff edge is a look at the tannins, and it's sharp and clear, and tightens my taste buds, like a lime, without the sour, and without the taste.

Looking at the 2005 Burgundy cliff like edge, it's made from chalk, full of mineral, and chalky.
Nonetheless, 2005 continues to be closer to the initial hype than it was, and it will continue to move into itself with time, and grow into something that I'm starting to understand. It's a year that's a unique puzzle, and the story will continue to unfold for years, that turn into decades, that turn into legend.

The year has been best named 'The Year of Luminosity' by an individual that saw it for what it was. Light, without heat.

  • This wine is so elegant and lush really excellent wine. Probably the first 2005 to be so elegant.

  • The MM have always been an open, approachable, fairly affordable door to fine burgundy, often at an early age. Consistent, fruit- laden and often rich in viscosity, they are especially enjoyable in vintages like 2005. The cherry, dark berry, wet oak, slight hint of mint, and moist earthy notes all were fine. But next to the Thibault Liger NSG from the same vintage, this wine seemd a bit stewed or molten, with less articulation of its components. Will acquire more complexity with age, of course.

  • Intially a bit shy but even right off the bat, this is super minerally and fine with very focused, clean Vosne fruit flavors that gain substantial depth and richness with air. This will never be a particularly big wine and certainly not by the standards of the vintage but does remain quite elegant with great mineral/saline notes throughout mixed with the classic brown baking spices and rose petal that you find in Vosne. Linear and elegant with defined minerality. Elegant Vosne.

  • We have been looking forward to taste this wine for almost five years. It was decanted one hour prior to drinking and we drank it over the next two hours. It was about 17 degrees when we had the first taste. To start with it was quite disappointing and thin. Absolutely not a fullbodiet wine. We cooled it down to 14-15 degrees and it gradually changed and a lot of very nice flavours occoured. The last drops were wonderfull. It is a very drinkable and light wine with very few and balanced tannins. It will drink well the next 5 years.

  • This makes me very curious how other 2005 1ers are tasting, that could get dangerous. Took about 3 hours to show up to the party, no decanter for this guy, that space was occupied by an 2001 Pira Margheria. Aromas are toasty and dark with black cherry and lots of blood and roast meat as well as mounds of sweet spices. On the palate there is real concentration but in classic burgundy fashion the weight is countered by juicy, buoyant fruit that just wont quit. So fresh and snappy you just want to guzzle it but trust me, don't.
