On pnp very drinkable out of the get go. Slight bricking visually the most advanced of the 3 younger Clos de Beze. A very meaty wine (rather than rustic although it had a tiny bit of "polished" rusticity if that makes any sense), touch of iodine, brambly fruit and polished long palate. Interestingly a bottle of 06 straight Gevrey later on had blind seemed more youthful (less comples and interesting but just an outburst of exuberant lush fruit)... so maybe a bottle that was a tiny bit advanced (although not oxed in any way), that being said a taster of a 06 Chambertin I enjoyed last year was showing similar level of development to the Beze. From what i have had from Rousseau 06s it feels like they did really well and wines are in a nice spot already.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Late night flight of 10/08/06/01 at Paulee, each so different! Maybe just lost in this late night flight, but it was clearly showing its ripeness more than its charm. Lots here, but this needs to integrate more (or be served on its own!).

Loads of sweet fruit, with a very unique spice and flavor profile that was really quite special. Aromatics were fantastic too. Such a special wine, completely delicious.

Served double blind, no one could peg it. a few guesses for CdlR because there was an earthy sweet element, but it’s got a depth to the fruit that I find suggestive of gevrey. Many facets, and it morphs over time, quite a ripe vintage for Rousseau, fascinating to drink

Delicious...I drank it over 2 nights and it got better every step of the way. Ripe, rich, red and dark cherries, animale, and spice, with great energy and some unresolved tannins that kiss the finish. It’s luxurious and light at the same time

Domaine Armand Rousseau - Chambertin and Clos de Beze Dinner (Imperial Treasure Shanghai, Ngee Ann City, Singapore): This was superb - clearly better than when I last tried it six or seven years back. What a nose it has now - melting red fruits - like cherries and berries- then earth and mineral, meat and spice. Super. This was classic Gevrey, classic Beze actually. The palate was absolutely wonderful too. Silky tannins, melting acidity, all draped like a silken robe over a wonderfully clear, pure and transparent flavours, with notes of red cherries, spice and mineral - this was amazing. So complete, so integrated - all gliding into a long, full, gentle finish that filled the back-palate again with blushing notes of juicy red fruit, gentle spice and lovely minerality. Wow. Drinking ridiculously well in its adolescence, but this should age effortlessly well far into the future.

Beautifully enticing nose showing fresh leafy and sweet red berry fruit. Very well handled tannins that are clearly very pronounced yet still smooth and not intrunsive. Soft mouth coating texture. Vibrant acidity. Dances across the palate. Super long. Outstanding wine.

One of 6 2006's enjoyed over the course of 2 days- La tache, Chambertin and clos de Beze from Rousseau, CSJ from rousseau and fourrier and 2006 Bonnes mares from roumier- Had the Beze and chambertin side by side at dinner on night 1. Red berries just jumped out from the first pour. Much more open in comparison to the Chambertin. Sweetness and spices all at once. Great structure and great length. A bit more subtle but still great structure. will last a while but very very good now. LT and Chambertin CDB tied for 1, BM and Chambertin tied for 2nd, CSJ Rousseau and Fourrier last. great study of the vintage overall.

Thank you to Zachys for their massive generousity to show such great wines at their pre-auction dinners. Light ruby but immediately approachable on the nose. Super seductive cherry, cranberry, strawberry spice nose that you send far too long with your nose in the glass! Sweet ripe fruit that feels delicately pressed with not a hint of extraction (unlike the very disappointing Preure Rich CdB). Sweet without being cloying or confected, really a masterpiece of wine making and terroir. So delicate yet sappy and long on the palate. You could never get tired of drinking this! Amazing stuff.

Wine of the night for me at Zachys preview for Vault auction... sweet, classic Beze, cran-cherry, exotic nose. Some used the word sexy. Surprisingly approachable and complete already. Quite sweet on palate in Rousseau style. Fine tannins, velvety mouthfeel, very long. Fantastic.

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction (RN74 - San Francisco CA): Small taste, brief note. Great aromatic start with ripe black fruit and roasted meat notes. Black fruit flavors with game and savory spice. Very pleasurable now, but slightly hollow middle, followed by more robust finish. I will cellar my bottles at least 5 more years.

Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) - Part 1 - Burgundy 2006 (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Small taste, brief note. Black fruit with savory spice and sauvage hints. Far more hedonistic vs Chambertin, certainly more pleasure today, but not the same degree of concentration or long-term potential. Just entering its peak drinking window.
It's not fully awake at first but develops very nice at this moment. Few hours after removing the cork, it's very complex and so good indeed. No doubt why the price is going up like hell.
If I could, I should buy more and more !!

Surprisingly drinkable at this early stage. The nose was bright and primary, showing beautiful red fruits and florals. Sweet and sappy, this was medium-bodied with very fine concentration. The tannins were silky and the finish was long and fresh.

Seems even better than the last time I had it. I can't fathom why the BH rating is so low and there isn't much public notes for it. Gorgeous and deep red fruited nose. Good acidity spine and a robust intense palate which is very very complex. A big yet elegant wine which is still very fresh, sappy and primary with a tremendously long finish. An excellent Beze!
A beautiful bouquet of lifted florals and red-tending to dark-fruits with a few savoury components showing. Concentrated sweet fruit and structural elements on the palate. I didn’t encounter any imbalance with tough or astringent tannins which can be a feature with 2006s, just proper firm Grand Cru grip. Nothing over-played here. A lovely elegant Rousseau Beze with bags of life left.

Dinner with Eric Rousseau (Salon by the Pool, Conrad Singapore): Hints of flowers on the nose. Very primary and fresh with plenty of energy. Not fully expressive at this stage. Quite full-bodied with good structure. A calm wine and exceptionally pretty from the silky tannins to the sweet fruitiness. A benchmark young Bèze.

Domaine Armand Rousseau Clos de Beze and Clos des Ruchottes dinner (Conrad Hotel, Singapore): This rounded up a trio a absolutely gorgeous Clos de Bezes. Eric Rousseau stressed just how difficult a vintage 2006 was, especially for this terroir, damaged as it was by hail towards the harvest. It took a drastic selection and highly reduced production to get this bottling of the ground, but boy am I glad some of this was saved. It was gorgeous, and the Domaine has every reason to be as proud of their work here as they are. What a nose this had, so high-toned that it was almost un-Rousseau-like, with a really bright, almost dancing bouquet of raspberries, red cherries and strawberries whipped in with dollops of fresh cream. Really pretty stuff. Over time, this was met in the glass with a bit of angelica root and other herbs playing on a backdrop of meat and mineral scents. Beautiful - one of the best noses on the night. The palate was lovely too. Still really open, almost surprisingly so, this showed a beautifully sappy mouthful of red cherries and berries wed to wonderfully bright acidity. There was a lovey sense of tension and energy on this, along with a fine grip of beautifully shaped tannins on the midpalate. It was in a noticeably lighter syle - this was as feminine and elegant as a Beze gets - yet no one would ever accuse this wine of being short on depth or substance. A lovely finish rounded the wine off, with an almost kumquat-like citrus lift along with a kiss of red cherries and a little stream of minerality. Delicious. This was still a baby, but what a beautiful one it was. Still primary, not altogether complex in its youth, but it is an achievement.
