fairly pale. fabulous, seductive nose of ethereal flowers and delicately woody spice is absolutely sublime, exotic yet refined, a touch of botrytis, perfectly restrained without the faintest touch of going over the top: one of the finest ever experienced. .enormously expansive and fragrant on the palate, extremely rich with vibrant acidity, delicately citrusy with a tad of minerality and a very faint botrytis tang. lilting, long, slow fade is heavenly; bit of smokiness in remains. should still improve!

A beautiful gold, and a powerful fruity and spicy nose, with pineapple and mango. Good acidity, and intensely fruity with pineapples and mango, grass and clay soils. Impressive freshness considering its age

What a wonderful bottle. There’s a suggestion of white mushroom along with pure white peach, mandarin and citrus blossom. It is rich, and textured, with layers of fruit and mineral. Length is superb and laden with spice.

Montrachet Dinner: 10 Vintages of Ramonet and Marquis de Laguiche, 1983-2002 (Oceana - New York NY): A very odd wine. Great color for any white wine at this age. Lots of botrytis aromas and flavors with sweet hints and lots of complexity from said botrytis, but that's all that is really coming through. Rich start, while not as exciting or nuanced or complex from the middle forward. Frankly, if served blind I would not have put Grand Cru Burgundy in my first five answers for what this wine might be, but I certainly enjoyed it as a glass of wine!

Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center with clear rims. The high intensity nose showed apples, white stone, almond paste, and some oak.
In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe. It had both great weight and great acidity. Not surprisingly the finish was quite long as well. Unfortunately, for me the relatively small amount of oak flavors obscured some of the complexity of this wine.
The oakiness did seem to decline to some degree with extended aeration. However, it is not clear to me this will ever go away. While certainly drinking, this wine will easily last 10 more years.

Not a patch on the bottle Paul and I had a few years’ ago and looked a little tired at first. Paul had given it a couple of hour ‘Audouzed’ and it opened up nicely in the glass over the course of the evening. There are some notes of mushroom, smoke and toast. It has a light creaminess in the mouth and engages with plenty of savoury nuance. Just fading a tad on the finish.

KYD #1.4: Beautiful intense buttered popcorn nose and still some pineapple fruit with a bit of oak. A wonderful expressive and complex nose yielding lots of vanilla, coffee, star-anise and melon fruit. Intense pineapple and coffee palate with a beautiful and vibrating acidity and just a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Amazing flavors of butter and popcorn and a very long aftertaste that lingers forever. A stunning wine and clearly a legendary bottle.

Lumber in the Mountains Update - Days 1 and 2. (Day 3 in progress).; 10/7/2010-10/8/2010 (Beaver Creek): Drank the 82 and 83 side by side. A fabulous pair, and a very nice treat. The 82 went from strength to strength, literally setting new levels every 30 minutes (we had generous pours and let them carry forward through three food courses). The 83 was a touch more flamboyant on the nose and on the palate. The 83 was thicker and richer, but the 82 was more intellectually appealing, and in the end simply better. Both were outstanding.

The aromatics took some time to get going but eventually grew bigger and minty (another's observation), and on the palate this is simply amazing, that's all. Another participant observed that "there was nothing wrong with this wine, it was not the best example among several bottles".

The most tropical nose I've ever encountered on any Burgundy, pineapple and passionfruit were leaping out of the glass. To call this a rich wine is an understatement. Intense, sappy, and very youthful -- this wine will last for decades. Truly interesting wine, clearly '83 was an unusual vintage -- served blind, I would have never figured this to be Ramonet. Quite a treat indeed.

This bottle was in good nick and really bloomed after some time in the glass. The nose offers an amalgam of smoke, almond, truffle, white peach and toast. There is a little honey and apricot botrytis. It has great shape in the mouth with a rich, fruit sweet heart and terrific drive to the finish. Perhaps just drying out a tad on the finish but a splendid drink none the less.

Great mature Chardonnay, good light gold color. Had the mint signature, lightish palate.

CC. Yellow gold, great color. Floral, spiced, lemon custard aromatics. Evenly resolved, intense palate which kept improving over 4 hours. Crazy wine.
