  • Just some brownish colour at the edge, the middle is still quite ruby. Aged nose of cherries, tobacco, toasted bell pepper, dried herbs and fragrant oak. Still quite fresh palate overall for a 43 years old wine. Minerals, dry red fruits and toasty oak dominated the medium bodied palate. Good strength still, totally not weak. But it is clear that this was a cooler vintage where acidity is the key supporting structure. It is not lean and thin. The acidity keep the fruit and wine fresh. Finish is herbecous, smooth and lingering at the back of the throat. Drink up if you have a bottle before the fruits fade away.

  • Cork came out intact with the help of a Durand corkscrew. First nose is not very promising, but the wine kept evolving positively over the course of a hour and a half or so. The finish is quite short, but nevertheless an elegant earthy, tobacco style of mature Claret!

  • Past...way past. Don't know how well it was cellared but it certainly wasn't maderized or vinegary. Only the few that like really aged stuff will like this as only the tertiary flavors of leather and dirt remain. I still happen to like a little fruit with the soles of my dress shoes.

  • Robe brune et trouble, nez de ketchup acide, même en sauce il passerait pas le test
En soluté, ce serait probablement la mort certaine
    Flawed

  • Very earthy with crunchy berry fruit and sweet tobacco. It has a black olive saltiness to the palate and some briary fruits. It is not particularly deep but worked an absolute treat with some sautéed field mushrooms.

  • Bill's lunch, Jim's bottle. Strong reddish purple color, great mature Bordeaux nose. Tasty, tannins mostly resolved; finish is slightly clipped but nice--jeez, when did anyone last have a good '77? This wine's very much alive. Original price tag still on bottle: $17 Canadian.

  • Very pleasant, sweet & ripe. Clssical Bordeaux tones, mineral and good acidity. No hurry to finish well stored bottles.

  • Dark velvet, but transparent and bright. Brown and light edges.
Obviously aged, but still brilliant and vital!
Minty fresh characters forward, followed by secondary elements of Leather, Vegetables, Earth and Forrest. Aromas of Dark Chocolate and Cacao. Little Fruit; some ripe Cherries and Fruit in Rum.
Sweet Vanilla, Black Tea and Anise.
Elegant and surprisingly fresh! Fascinating complexity and development of time!
Hints of Cherry and other dark, overripe Fruit flavors.
Traces of Earth, Leather and fresh Vegetables.
In spite of the vital tannins and nice acidity, the wine is very light-bodied and a little bumpy and weak on the palate. Finishes with Warmth and Spiciness.
While lacking some complexity, it sits beautifully in the mouth.

A very elegant and solid wine, which has aged gracefully!
Great appearance and aromas, while a little unbalanced and weak on the palate.
Still decent complexity and a beautiful silky mouthfeel and lively tannins and acidity. Drink soon.

  • This was the second bottle we drank from a case I bought at auction recently. It had a nice bordeaux nose, but was a bit rough at first (didn't have time to let it sit properly). But after about 15 minutes in my glass I quite enjoyed it. Still good fruit and good minerality.
