Absolutely in its prime. Fruit retained throughout meal though not overall quality, possibly caused by weakness of the vintage. Will keep going through 2026

  • This was drinking well tonight after an hour or so of air with lots of deep, fairly intense dark red and black fruits, cedar box, saddle leather and pipe tobacco. The mouthfeel is full bodied and unctuous with slightly chalky and mostly integrated tannins on mid length to longish finish. All in all, this was a delight!

  • A wonderful 2nd growth Bordeaux, from a blend of 82% Cab Sauv, 8% Merlot, with 10% Cab Franc.

Described as a challenging vintage, 2007 exhibited dank conditions which resulted in various outbreaks of mildew, and the summer was simply damp and uninspiring.

This 2007 vintage is also described to age a little quicker than the 2005 (or 2006, 2008 and 2009). Therefore it makes a good choice for one willing to have a "faster maturing" Las Cases. For the impatient!

In 2007, light showers fell often, thus the vines and berries could not fully dry and the persistent damp encouraged mildew, reducing yields. Scarce sunshine ultimately resulted in uneven ripening across the Medoc.

Thus this Las Cases 2007's powdery tannins and good length on the finish, and its sweetness of fruit and feeling of "completeness" meant that this was a stand-out for the 2007 vintage! Jean-Hubert Delon and his team has done a wonderful job in the estate.

After a short bottle breathe, TC's bottle had fresh bell peppers on the nose, moving into cedar box and tobacco aromatics. A powerful palate of blackcurrants and red fruit was then revealed, plenty of concentration, and led me to.. Old world Bordeaux, 10 years?

Funny enough, SKT asked if this was a Monte Bello, which made me sweat! I really liked the earthy notes on the mid-palate, with a medium-long length finish. When revealed, all were surprised how well a 2007 vintage was showing, the team at Las Cases has clearly done a stellar job here!

Just to share a small history lesson..
During the French Revolution, Marquis de Las Cases Beauvoir was forced to flee France and as a consequence the Leoville estate was broken up to 3 separate estates... Chateaux Leoville Barton, Leoville Las Cases and Leoville Poyferre.

Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest classified growths in the Médoc. And, without doubt it is the leading estate in St-Julien.

Léoville Las Cases's 97 hectares of vineyards are superbly sited on gravelly-clay soils with the largest plot being surrounded by a stone wall and stretching between the village of St-Julien and Château Latour. The wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend (65%) and is matured in oak barriques (70-80% new) for 18 months.

Bottle 3 of 6.. CNY Chor 10 session at my home, Teck Kong brought this to share with myself, SKT, DQ and LMC too.

  • Concentrated dark fruit with notes of cedar box, oak and tobacco. Absolutely needs at least a two hour decant to have the fruit and blackcurrants become more expressive. Interestingly, even after a two hour decant the wine became even better as it reached room temperature and had another hour plus in the decanter. Quite good for this vintage.

  • Perfume bouquet of new leather, dry black fruits, river stones and toasted spices. Rich, balanced and fresh palate. Good level of minerality filled the multi-layered full-bodied mid-palate, leading to a seamless and clean finish.

  • 30 min quick decant, and enjoyed slowly over 2 hours. Classical Bdx red berry and fresh cassis notes, long finish.

One of the fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths, Bordeaux classification of 1855) and among the 10 French and Californian reds in 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Saint-Julien is my namesake, and glad JY brought a matching bottle too, perfect for my 48th 🎂.

Bottle 16 of 23, at our Genting Sempah early birthday celebration and staycation, my little gift to all who showed up for the 48 hour party!

Enjoyed this with Mikas and EYs super BBQ wagyu, marinated chicken and lamb too.. Happy happy!

  • Decanted 2 hours, drinking v well, classical Bordeaux, beautiful wine that should improve with more age

  • If you are looking for a Leoville Las Cases that is developed and ready to go, this is a solid choice. Tobacco leaf, cedar, currants, and forest aromas bring you to a medium-bodied, fresh, bright, juicy, classicly built, red berry focused St. Julien. You can enjoy this now and over the next 5-8 years with ease.

  • Decanted. Drinking really well

  • 3 hours in the decanter gave the wine the depth and long finish that elevates LLC to first growth territory. Viscous, blackish crimson color hardly any sign of age. Very dark black fruits, cassis, spices, asphalt, pencil shavings. Masculine yet very elegant on the palate, quite a bit of complexity, acidity, weight and lift with a refreshing long finish coating the tannins fully. Great wine for this vintage.

  • Amazing effort given the vintage and in true first growth style which to me makes LLC the king of St Julien. Blackish crimson color, decanted and aerated for 3 hours and drank over an hour. I think time in the decanter opened up the wine on the nose and palate giving this beauty surprising depth. Yes the nose is dominated by blackberries and black currants, perfumed cassis, but there was also graphite, pencil lead and olive tapenade notes. On the palate very luscious entry, glycerin like, great structure mid palate with exploding fruits, very forward for a LLC, medium to full bodied, very evolved and a long finish with super velvety tannins. Maybe I am biased in my note by how much I love LLC. Probably next to the 1989, this is the most hedonistic and less reserved LLC I have ever tasted having done 1982, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2004 and now 2007!

  • This is quite a remarkable achievement given the vintage. Wonderful dark perfume on the nose, a melee of wood and fruit - very subtle. Palate is just a little thin, particularly in the finish, but what is there is very fine, and grows in stature with time in the glass and decanter. A wine of great quality, and you can sense the skill that has gone into producing it. So 92 points for substance, but I am tempted to give it a further point just for its sheer class, the way it pulls all its features together into a distinctive and elegant statement.

  • (Blind tasting BYO)
Fullish nose. Rich and modern style Bdx. Dark fruit, oak, coco-nut. Powerful and dense. A bit four-square at the moment. But nice herbal cut.
Fullish, rich and generous palate that is a bit four-square. Quite austere and still youthful. Plum, cedar and some cigarre. Very balanced but still un-resolved.
Quite easy to identifyl as left-bank Bdx. One of the tough and hard ones. Pauillac or St Julien. Quite modern in the style.
This has the stuffing to go on. I brought the wine and expected more development. But this is a 2007 Bdx that will benefit from further cellaring. Start drinking in 2023-25.

  • Fresh fruits - black berries with tinge of sweetness. On the nose, liqourice, tobacco. Just entered drinking window. Can last for a while more. Nice!

  • The blackberries are ripe. There is some weight and richness, though there is a lack of complexity as most of what you find is sweet blackberries. The wine is a bit short in the fruity finish, which is accompanied by a distinctive green olive, herb, and leafy streak. For such a difficult vintage, this is a very strong effort.

  • An easy afternoon with close friends; Bordeaux (@ FD): In the bouquet a lot of dark berries, vanilla, sweet licorice and graphite. On the palate round and creamy dark berries, juicy acidity and good tannin. Firm and powerful , luxurious wine with powerful acidity and tannin. Still quite youthful. Will improve over the next 5+ years. 93 – 95

  • Dark ruby
Medium intensity, with blackcurrant, smoke, leather, black pepper.
Dry, high acidity and tannin, medium alcohol, full body.
Flavor intensity - Medium, with blackcurrant, toast, wet leaves.
    Good - balance, intensity

    Very smooth but lacks complexity.

  • Extraordinary example. Took about an hour to open but well worth the wait. Dark fruits with hints of tobacco and coffee. Tannins are soft but there. One of the best I’ve had in a while.

  • Pretty much ditto Jeff Leve. Aromas of cassis, cranberry/cherry to black cherry (more on the red fruit spectrum), mineral/earthy. Elegant fruit presentation with tannins in check and not overly extracted. Yes, drinkable now; and I would give it 2+hours of decanting. I think it’s best days are yet to come in the next 1 to 3 years. Only for fans of “classic style” Left Bank Clarets. The high % of Petite Verdot (8%) sans Merlot makes it more of a St. Estephe Style.

  • Earthy in nature, it is easy to find the truffle, cigar box, tobacco, ash and wet earth, along with the juicy cassis. One of the deeper wines of the vintage, the wine ends with peppery, fresh cassis and sandy tannins. This could improve for a few years, but it is drinking quite well today. The wine was made blending 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.

  • Two years and a half later and this bottle wasn't as good. Still a success for the rough vintage, but for some reason not showing as well last nite. Still some cedar, blackberry, black currant, forest floor. But not enough fruit or body to really excited. Not bad for the vintage.

  • Arnoud sent over a couple of glasses from a bottle that was open. Dark fruit, nice purity, silky texture and what was most impressive was the weightless palate. Lots of flavor, yet nimble. Racines with Jake.

  • Medium ruby, showing a bit of age in the color. Expressive nose of wet forest floor, damp earth, dark fruit. On the palate this is bone dry as often with this house. The complexity of aromas are good but this needs more fruit to score higher, even for a Bordeaux traditionalist like me. I clearly prefer the Leoville Poyferre in this vintage.

  • From 750: My wine group, The Red Pigs of Ithaca NY, Blind vertical tasting of LLC. The youngest wine of nine and made very much in the New World/ International style. New oak dominates the flavor profile. I have committed infanticide with LLC in years before, drinking the wine well before it's time, but I can't remember this much new oak. Perhaps this is what the consumer wants these days, but this wine will never taste like the 1978 LLC in 30nyears.

  • Decanted for several hours. Still tannic. Dense. Cedar. Barnyard. I can't believe how much more body and structure this has compared to the other 2007s I've been guzzling. This is the only one I would keep in the cellar for a while. It is great but should improve a bit.

  • Smells like Kerastase "Bain de Force" shampoo crossed with rotting eucalyptus. Upon first opening, tastes like coco milk. With a short decant, lush red cherries, anise, unripe green cardamon, fennel, liquorice and waxy leaves come out to play. Tannins are like vetiver, with a somewhat soapy finish. Drink starting now.

  • Decanted 1.5 hours. Nose is cherry, clay, perfumie, red currant, bit faint hand lotion. Light blue berry flavors. Dry, good tannins. Minerals, a bit strong acid, asparagus, black cherry. Kind of cherry pie esq. nice stuff! Good 10 second finish. Nice old world structure. Little black licorice, truffles on backend. Even a bit of bacon fat nose. A little chocolate taste very light though. I would definitely buy another.

  • On the nose, slightly overwhelming cedary, oaky aromas at first, then a mélange of red and dark fruits, spice, vanilla. Powdery tannins. Decent finish with cocoa powder note. Full bodied. Still on the fence about its quality and agebility because the oak seems to be somewhat disjointed even after many years and it lacks the richness that typifies Las Cases.

  • Ruby red. Full, ripe plummy nose with a touch of toasty oak. Balanced and cedary with bright cassis and cherry fruit. Full entry but loses depth on the mid palate before the dry textured finish.

  • Bibendum Bordeaux 2010 tasting including selected back vintages (Lords Cricket Ground - St Johns Wood, London): No 2010 left when I arrived, however the 2007 was also on show. Sturdy stuff, with a nice nose of pencil lead and tobacco leaf. Good harmony with the structure. Classy, in an indifferent vintage.

  • K&L Top Bordeaux Tasting (San Francisco, CA): My first LLC. Lovely nose with good minerality, dark fruits, bit of dust and earth. Palate at first has a bit of tartness that doesn't sit well, but then quickly has good medium weight/balance, nice tannic structure, some raspberry and blackberry. Elegant, but not worth the price ($150). 91-92

  • Dense red in the glass. Pretty, floral nose. Dark red and black fruits. I guessed Margaux or St. Julien. Pretty tones with a nice zing of acidity. Violets, some graphite, lavender, wood and nice berry tones.

  • I am not over-rating this. Three wines in one>> nose = pure violets , front palate ==> liquid violets, middle drops out a little, but yields an even more pure version of violets, before the end ==>> tangy blood orange. Some cherry licorice throughout, and some milk chocolate. Lifted, long, complex, and drinkable today. Nothing mouth-puckering, but quite lip staining. A seductive charmer and romancer. A turn on...

  • Underground Bordeaux Tasting Feb 10/2010 (Yaletown, Underground): Decanted for Aprox an 1.5hr before drinking

    82% CS 8% M 10% CF

    C: Med Minuns Intesnity, Purple/Fuchsia

A: Big "Acetone" Ripe Fruit, Touch of Coffee

T: Bitter Tannins, med minus body, med fruit intensity tart red fruit

Conc: As I have heard from the winedoctor which they were takling about at the Bordeaux event, they call the 07s the Restaurant Vintage, I can see its not a big wine, who knows if it will evolve lots of acid to keep it...but not worth the money

  • Purple, tight nose. Big juicy fruit, like plum jam and butterscotch in the nose. Medium body, bright acid and tannic. Long finish. I'm guessing (and only guessing) this will be something really good one day. Tasting Bordeaux this young is difficult

  • Deep ruby with bluish rim. Great aromatic concentration. Floral, violets, some vanilla and abundant red fruit, fresh green pepper, ink and minerals. Aromas of smoke and coffee. Fulish body. Tannnins almost imperceptible. Fruity, long and concentated. This wine is fabulous! and it is drinking very well now. I suspect this is the new style od Bordeaux made to be drunk from very early on.
