  • So maybe I'm not the only one who is not as impressed as the rest of these tasters are. I found this wine to be very interesting and at 55 years of age to be really something. What I didn't taste was a lot of complexity until the wine was at the very end of the bottle. Fascinating that it finished very dry and most of the sugar has resolved itself into the acid. solid experience and this bottle was shipped X cellars. enjoyed with salt and pepper shrimp and chong qing Sichuan chicken. I wouldn't decant it but I would let it chill in the glass for as long as you can stand it. A nice treat.

  • Rich and developed, notes of sherry and honey, really quite complex. Palate is a myriad of sugary dark notes. Not exactly sure what. Long aftertaste. Sweet. Really interesting but I would probably chose a spätlese riesling before this one.

  • 1961 vs 1982 Bordeaux (Boston): Acidic. Fruit is nice, but fading.

  • A Night at Bullion (Bullion, Dallas, TX): Decanted for 1h. Aromas of rich honeyed pears, honeyed Meyer lemons, cinnamon and other baking spices. Palate was not as sweet as the aromas, more along the lines of a demi-sec. Ripe apples, just ripe pears, hint of vanilla, nice bitter pith that brings balance. Nice finish of medicinal fruit. Complex and lovely. 93+

  • This was opened by a friend about 4 hours prior to drinking.
The wine had so many changes throughout the 4 hours I had with it. This bottle level was pristine, obtained from a casino resturaunt about 5 years ago.
Light golden without any brass, just slightly more hue than the more recent vintages I've had in the past. The viscosity and mouthfeel were awesome.
The nose evolved, regressed, changed several times over 4 hours. Sometimes having a damp , musty, autum leaf angle, the. For a bit would have crisp, citrus, myer lemon with a hint of sugar. And many layers in between.
Definiy the most interesting wine of the night. Lots o' fun to drink and talk about.

  • dark golden, nicely matured, I got it blind and guessed mid 1980's, still vibrant acidity, a lot of tertiary aromas, dried fruits, dates, fig, nuts, honey, fullbodied, creamy, glyzerine, great finish with great residual sweetness, I would it hold it at least for another 10 years, not at his top, decantation and a burgundy glass will be an advantage

  • 1967 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume
It would have benefited from some decanting as the wine initially came out with the prototypical mushroomy and earthy character of old chenin blanc. However, I poured the wine from the rather small glass we had into a Burgundy glass. The transformation was immediate. The musty character receded and mature yellow fruit and linden infusion came to the fore. In the mouth this shows resolved fruit sweetness into something more elegant and satisfying and the acidity focuses all the delicate layering of the wine. Very far from fallen over. I would not worry about opening this in a hurry but if you do, this will be a treat. Chose your glass carefully and decant.

  • Top quality NZ and US Pinot Noirs and Burgundies, with an old Loire to finish (Tinakori Bistro, Wellington): Colour deep lemon. Oxidation on the nose shows the age, but the bouquet is in good shape: aromas of pineapple, honey, dried fruits, smoke with an attractive mushroom component. Better on palate, glorious in fact! The oxidative element is here, showing age, but great fruit and bright acidity. Honeyed, glycerol flavours, old apples and a hay or straw element. Beautiful Chenin Blanc. Probably drinkable for another 30 years if the cork holds (this one recorked three years ago at the winery).

  • Direct from Baumard cellar. Medium gold. Reticent oxidative, raisiny nose. Bruised apple, pleasantly oxidative, spiced honey, plenty of RS left. Seamless from start to finish if a bit non-complex. Still kicking when revisited on day 3. Still seems young.

  • Written off as flawed 7 months ago, yet recorked and forgotten in back of fridge until last night. Well, just how long can an opened bottle of dessert wine keep in the fridge? At least this long. Whatever was wrong before has come right. Which means it could not have been corked after all. Maybe it should have been decanted and given some patience. Or saved for the company of wine people.

  • Quel bummer. Impeccable bottle, a late release with mid-neck fill, young pale color, fresh and lively -- yet corked. Sadly, I had no second bottle as a backup.
Others have praised this forgotten vintage and I had so hoped to see for myself. C'est la guerre.

  • The end of a great dinner @ Charleston

Medium golden in color. A beautiful fresh, clean and, simultaneously rich nose of ripe apples, pears, honey, and spices. Terrific texture on this rich yet not heavy youthful energetic wine. Decidedly midweight and very deep. huge stoniness, alongside a great freshness of fruit. I am often at a vocabulary loss when describing Chenin, and this is my oldest example by a mile. Suffice it to say this beautiful, poised, elegant wine succeeds by its depth and breadth rather than volume. Almost all of the sweetness is gone at this point, and it is just a shimmering fresh, and simltaneously long beautiful wine. A complete wine. All parts adding to a larger whole. Fantastic!

  • Starts off rocky. Seems slightly oxidized, but with time, the oxidative quality disappears, and a minerally, apple, flowers, and honey notes appear. Superb freshness for a 40 year old wine. Really a treat.
