Gareth’s ‘40th’ (La Trompette): Mid straw. Fresh. A touch of sherbet. Lovely balancing acidity. Somewhere between youthful expressiveness and more nuanced maturity. Lovely though, and beautifully balanced ****

33 Rieslings, from sparkling to TBA (Trondheim Norway): I did not take much notes on this one. Rather closed on the nose but in the mouth exceptional. My least impressive of this one, but perhaps in a slightly muted phase at the moment? Nevertheless an extremely good wine with exceptional potential in 5-35 years. Best wine of the flight 93+

Riesling Tasting (Trondheim, Norway): Quite closed, some honey, some green; fine balance, fresh, bit a bit too weak from the midpoint of the taste curve and beyond. Long and elegant aftertaste though. Development ahead.

Very pale colour but looks quite weighty in the glass. Nose needs an hour to open out then lovely peachy scents, a hint of strawberries and fruit salad. No sign of botrytis on the nose - balance and precision instead which is what you want in a wine like this. Full bodied wine but beautiful poise, quite sweet, peach comes through well. Lingering but so youthful - can only improve. Lovely now but great potential. 92+

Fritz Haag and Heymann-Löwenstein tasting: Much more straightforward and sweeter nose than the 2003 vintage. Round and good in the mouth with considerable botrytis. Good acidity and minerality. Very long and wonderfully sweet finnish. Can be cellared for 30-40 years.

Nez finement pétrolé sur les agrumes
Bouche parfaitement équilibrée, l’acidité porte la sucre, c’est très subtil, d’un grande élégance.
Excellent vin.

Begynnende modning, honning, aprikos og typisk rieslingnese. Søt, men samtidig lett og elegant.

Grosser Ring Tasting of 2007 wines from the Nahe, Mosel, Saar and Ruwer (German Embassy, London): A bit closed on the nose. Very precise and focussed palate. Peachy and lemon flavours with a gentle richness and sweetness.
