One finds very few wines like old Laville Haut Brion - the combination of aromas pretty singular. This bottle of the 66 is an excellent example; poured from the bottle, the nose shows a mature, mellow pineapple, lanolin profile accented by kerosene and shiitake. With 30 minutes of air, this turns into a different wine - the fine silhouette is shed and this becomes rich and full; the fruit more pure and intense with pineapple, cream, lemon, and lanolin. Remarkably, this shows no sign of tiring after 3 hours.

Magnifique bouteille, base neck mais le bouchon était très friable. Superbe couleur or, brillante.

Served double blind, it was impossible for anyone at the table to believe this was 50 years old! Deep yellow in color, with a crushed rock, vanilla, marzipan, citrus, butterscotch, popcorn and lemon liqueur nose, it was hard to put the glass down. Rich, almost oily in texture, with ample freshness, the finish did not seem to quit, as it remained with you for at least 40 seconds! The wine did not lose its fruit in the glass during the dinner.

Absolutely stunning in every way. With a few short years to go before this wine hits its 50th birthday, the golden hued beauty was butterscotch, popcorn, butter, caramel and citrus peel, Smooth as silk, the finish reminded me of a fresh vanilla custard.

Le Cinq Legends Dinner 2018 (Le Cinq Restaurant, George Cinq Four Seasons, Paris): A real revelation! Very spicy nose. Gorgeous acidity and freshness. No oxidation at all compared to the Burgundies.

Only enjoyed the initial grapefruit, didn't stick around at dinner long enough for butter cookies to emerge. Pretty round.

Unbelievable -- melted butter in the mouth, a wine so fat you feel like chewing it!
