I’ll admit, this is the only Albariño I’ve ever purchased and I also let it get forgotten in my cellar. I’m assuming it’s over the hill. There are weird aromatics and flavors here. I also unfortunately can’t find my notes from the tasting where I purchased this bottle. So I’m flying blind. Super, super funky nose. Overripe strawberry, bitter? nose. Almost like an older Riesling?? Soooo funky. It really doesn’t smell flawed, but seriously, does Albariño all smell and taste like this. I actually kinda like it. I like funky wines so.....The palate is just as funky as the nose. Some good acidity. I think it’d be better with a bit more. Pungent, almost puckery mouthfeel. Bleachy? But I don’t mean that in a bad way. What a weird wine!

This has become more nuanced with age. This is no presence of sharp acidity or mineral notes. instead, there is a nice floral blend with maybe a hint of roasted chestnuts. This wine is very smooth, and invites a good, lingering swish around the mouth.

Spain and Portugal Tasting (Casa Roberts): This was a very disappointing showing for one of my standby Albarinos -- the nose was strange and had some chemical notes on it -- but the palate was fresh and still showed bright green fruit and fresh acidity. Still, take the score with a grain of salt, as I have had prior bottles that were fine on the nose. It was lined up in a flight against much lighter wines.

Spain and Portugal (2033 Brandywine): Just above average. Salinity. Sweet. But the nose was very off putting. Could have been slightly flawed. Palate was not as bad, and it was just "plain."

Wow...it's hard to imagine it...but the nose on this wine has really become quite intriguing after a night in the fridge. Scents of lime, buttered clams, and fresh crushed granite are the most obvious with something undefined lingering in the background. In the mouth it has good acidity followed by lean lime, bananas, ocean brine, and minerals that linger nicely on the palate.

A light yellow color in the glass with scents of stone fruits, minerals, lemon pie filling, and lime zest. In the mouth there is lithe acidity, followed by limes, melon, star fruits, and minerals that linger nicely with a bit of heat at the tail end that keeps this from cresting and being outstanding.

Very good. I didn't know much about Albarino. I had some of this and liked it. I then forgot about it that night and left it on the counter overnight. Put it back in fridge, and let it get cold again. I tried it again rechilled and still good. Full-bodied and slightly sweet white. Richer than Reisling but less dry than Chardonnay or Gewurztraminer. Recommended.

My wife and I got used to last year's model, with its fat, off-dry stylings, and riesling-like floral aromas. This year's edition seems to have much more acidic backbone (not a problem!) but lacks the fat, residual sugar, and glycerin that made the 2005 and 2006 so delicious in our eyes. Pale gold in the glass, light almond and citrus aromas, citrus flavors, with a powerful finish of lemon peel or something with a bitter pith. Everyone else seemed to love this but, after two bottles of the same experience, I've had enough. Maybe if I can find another bottle of the 2006 I will compare the two -- I still have one more bottle of 2007. Otherwise, if I want acidity to knock my socks off, it is now just as inexpensive (and more rewarding) to drink a Verdejo from a top-notch vintner, and that's what I'll do.

This is like a richer extraction of the standard Codax Albarino: this is creamier, denser beast, with far more of a wallop on the nose—muskier, more coconut, vanilla cream, spices, some acid citrus. It’s a bit more syrupy too, and I would guess this is an even better expression of the varietal character. I think I still prefer the standard Codax Albarino for its leaner quality and lighter mouthfeel.

Price considered, this has to be a top choice for summer sipping in 2008. This is a glass full of springtime -- honeysuckle, chaulkiness, a bit of mint even, and some orange rind. Beautiful nose, really. Fullish on the palate with good concentration and acidity to provide some cut. Really nice stuff. Buy some before it's gone.
