Work tasting and dinner (Home): Deep and dense ruby, similar to the Thalabert alongside. Good Northern Rhone Syrah, but it’s too tame to be proper Cornas. Lacks some bite and is just too manicured and polite. However, it’s still an excellent wine, just a bit light on typicity. After a few bottles in the late noughties, this is holding well with little further evolution. ****

5th of 6. Beautiful and still relatively young with primary fruit and black pepper. Lovely balance and some mellowness from age but I think I will leave my last bottle a few years. 4/5

Medium red-garnet color, substantial bricking. High-toned aromas, strongly fruited of raspberry, cranberry, garrigue. On arrival, there's severe acidity. Flavors muted by the acidity; tough to find enjoyment here at all, tough to want to re-tatste. Bad bottle ?

Work Wine Tasting - Vintage Pairs (Home): This was served alongside the straight 95. A little more typicity and depth here, but very similar in the scheme of things. Held up pretty well after 48hours (less oxidised than the straight version), but probably best now with a few hours in the decanter. ***(*)

A triumph for Cornas! This wine grabs you from the moment it is poured into the glass. Wonderful rich gamey nose then on to a rich mouthfull of gorgeous, rich meaty spicy wine, with notes of earth and blood. This bottle really worked, as behind the power was some lovely tannin and enough acidity. Great wine especially when you are looking for something to arrest your senses and thrill your palate!

Cornas (28-50, London): Similar colour, nose a little muted with a slightly lactic quality. Opens up nicely. Proper Cornas here, nothing smoothed-over. Dark red fruit, lovely acidity. Iron and blood starting to come through. Needs an hour or two in a decanter. ****

Medium red. Tomato, meat, dark fruit and black pepper. Very nicely developed Northern Rhone nose. Nice red fruit and pepper flavours with a long dry mineral finish. Really exceptional.

Decanted 1 hour. Medium/deep ruby, pale ruby rim. Interesting, developed, complex nose - a core of blackberry fruit, plenty of pepper, some meat fat and contrasting floral perfume notes. Medium/full bodied on the palate, deep, intense mid-palate, more fruit than the nose with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, pepper, some bloody meat. Quite rich with still quite chewy (but not harsh) tannins, medium acidity and a few soil notes on a long finish. Certainly better than the last bottle - deep, complex and reasonably well balanced but also perhaps a little rustic/lacking in elegance and polish. Nice wine though with plenty left in the tank.

a mid red to the rim with no browning (which was quite surprising) - wonderful bouquet of spices and white pepper and wonderful flavours of the same! - there is not a great deal of depth to the wine and the fruit seems to fade quite quickly - drink soon

Dark red. Huge nose of tomato, pepper and later bacon and meat. In some ways the nose reminds me of a really great bloody mary. Very nice flavours but the nose is fantastic. I love this wine.

Remmington Norman Offline in aid of Pebbles Project (Le Colombier, London): Full colour. Meaty, fruity nose. Fresh, bright acidity, red fruits. Really quite couth. Hasn't been open long enough for the iron and blood aromas to develop yet. Plenty of time. Very good and consistent with previous bottles of this.

Wonderful purity and length. Rich, full nose of blood and leather. As supple as the finest handbag. A deep heart of black fruit. Just enough grip on the finish to match an honest plate. I can't imagine this wine getting any better.

Mid ruby to garnet. Bright and dense. Thick and leggy in the glass. Lovely nose, spices, iron and blood with slightly floral lighter notes. Positive entry, fruit, spices and acidity evident, leadying to a meaty, slightly rusty mid palate then refreshing acidity on the finish. Lovely now though will last. Every bit as good as the previous bottle of this and a great accompaniment to grouse.

Lovely bright garnet to ruby. Sweet, spicy iron-rich nose when first opened. Decanted for 2 hours prior to tasting. Nose still richly fragrant, spices, blood, iron, pepper. Good entry with ripe fruit, spices and good acidity. Smooth and almost velvety. Long. Really lovely and drinking well now. Also excellent vfm. A mid 90s score.

Medium/deep ruby core, medium pale rim. Developed nose with smoke, bloody meat, underlying blackberry fruit and hints of violets. A medium bodied wine with reasonably attractive if somewhat dilute blackberry and meaty flavours and attractive acidity on a medium length finish. There are plenty of tannins here, which although not aggressive, are slightly intrusive and seem a little out of balance with the fruit.
Overall a reasonable enough Cornas, which may improve once the tannins subside a little, but is there enough fruit? Probably worth waiting a couple of years to find out.

Reticent nose. Touch confected at end of nose. Decent fruit. Lots of tannin, but they're a bit too coarse still. Not especially approachable at the moment.

A very nice wine but not at all typical of Cornas. I wish I made some better notes on this one.
