Dark yellow color. Fat yellow plum, overripe pear, butter, flowery perfume and a note of licorice root. Intense, concentrated and fat viscosity on the palate, with loads of ripe yellow fruits and a buttery midpalate and finish. Great length with some alcohol on the finish.

Alban Vineyards Tasting 1993-2009 (Buzzini House): I've had this wine numerous times recently....this bottle was a little more richer than I remember....vanilla creme, tropicals, honeysuckle, marshmallow, some heat showing. Not as much match strike as I usually get. The '09 Central Coast bested this.

Tropical fruits, orange marmalade and a flower component on the nose. In the mouth, nice acidity and a good finish. Second time I've had this wine this year and its a really nice viognier.

This is the second time I have tried this wine. It is big and bold an can truly understand why the voignier grape is mixed with several shiraz mixes today (it is that biiig). Not as "marzipany (sweet)" as many chardonnays tend to be. One of the best white wines I have tried. Absolutely love it! (sorry cannot rate a white higher than 94-95).

Taste of elderflower, full, and "semi-sweet" - lacked a good long finish though (if you can demand that from a white wine..). Having said that it is one of the best white wines I have tried. Different to other Voigniers I have tried - much more "body" to it.. Looking forward to drinking the last two bottles I have!!

Saturday, September 11, 2010 - Big and full on the palate, with lots of California sunshine. Not very complex, but quite enjoyable with creamy peach and citrus flavors. No clue that the alcohol was 15.5% until I saw it on the bottle.

Very big and massive for viognier. Some astringency in the wine( i would expect that for this weighty of a viognier) which became more noticable with certain foods. I would suggest a rissoto dish as a better food pairing for this wine. Best drank on its own. The nose was like a very good viognier to the second power. Wine was very creamy and different from most viogniers, more of a full body. I think it would age well for several years.

Really an outstanding white, and I don't like white wines. Possibly the wife's favorite white. Pricing is a bit ridiculous, but points with the missus are priceless. Had on Riviera de Maya with BD. If I were a kept man would buy lots of this. Don't think it's past its prime but probably not a lot of time left.

A little more peach vodka to this than I remember? Fume at first....but settled later on. Big florals(peach, jasmine, honeysuckle), match strike, big style fruit, with citrus acidity and minerals to balance well. A little less alc. would do these wines well! Still, tasty as always.

Drank at the Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach. $37 on the menu. Dinner was Bairdi crab, Dungeness crab, & huge shrimp. Excellent wine - best Viognier I've had. Different than other Viogniers. More full bodied - great varietal nose with good acid and minerals for a very balanced bottle of wine.

I thought that was good for what it was, not really correct for the varietal but still delicious. Nice herbal and floral components on the nose. Spice and lemon zest with a sage and basil undertone. Palate is super fat, rich, creamy and layer with lemon meringue. A touch of bottle sweetness on the palate but really nice. Not for the faint of heart, not a summer supper but would work really well with food.

Beautiful florals....peaches, tropicals, honeysuckle, good balance of alc./acidity/minerals. More minerals than I've even tasted in their whites. Signature Alban match strike....dusted the whole bottle pretty quick! Best Alban Viognier in the last few years imo.

The OC Blind Crew (Kimera--Irvine, CA): Amazing aromatics--it hit my senses and really registered. The Dr Mrs called the bouquet "night jasmine". To me, jasmine, mint and lime with peaches. Just beautiful aromatically. Similar notes on the palate with lime oil, nectarine and a spicy finish.

Light/bright golden straw colored; mostly transparent. Wonderful nose of Honeysuckle, Pineapple, Melon, Grapefruit, Apricot and wet stone. Creamy, with flavors of honey, Honeydew, Melon, Pineapple, Fig and hints of Anise. Full-bodied, mouthfeel approaching syrupy but dense and balanced, with decent acidity. Long finish, slightly tart and tannic, even a tiny bit bitter. Wonderful wine but needs another year of so to integrate fully.

"Cap Off" (Peter Pratt's Inn): A big and full bodied wine with an oily texture. A good amount of oak and vanilla spice. Fairly deep citrus fruit flavors. I think it's a bit tightly wound and needs to age a bit more.

Popped and poured. Nose of honeysuckle, florals, green apple and white peach. Great minerality, lemon/lime flavors, oily viscosity. As it warmed and sat in the glass, honey emerged as the dominant feature. Smooth finish.

To my friends.......this is a wonderful example of true California Viognier in its truest form. The aromatics of honeysuckle leap from the glass and hit your nose, almost as if you were running through a summer field. There are honey notes in the mouth along with a touch of the grape skins. The color of the wine is a golden yellow, reminiscent of the bumble bees polenating the honeysuckle. You can't beat the value of this wine for what's inside the bottle. It is definitely one of my favorites! It's not subtle like a Viognier fron France, but it's great. I wish Alban would up my allocation. EG

Enjoyed with lobster and filet fondue. Unique, expressive and weighty wine showing tons of fruit, slate and depth. Deep golden color in the glass. Explosive aromas of exotic tropical fruit. Papaya, honeydew, cantaloupe and pineapple. Layers of vanilla, oak and jalapeno peppers. After two hours aromas of black licorice and coconut started to shine through. The palate is heavy boasting 15.5% alcohol (same as the Hoodoo Man) but his lacked the high acidity needed to cut through the heavy juice. Massive in the mouth. Finish lasts for 45 seconds, though it shows a fair amount of heat. Super young, this needs a year or two to settle down. Awesome first Viognier experience by one of the best Central Coast producers period.

Light pale gold color showing a demure lemon verbena note with some stone fruit elements and with time a slight floral component. Easy entry that led to a nice grip at mid palate with nice forward fruit and a tart edge that left a medium to long hang time.

Popped and poured and then consumed over 4 hours. Full-bodied wine that is lemon yellow in color. On the nose, honeysuckle and spice. On the palate, honey, lemon, and cloves on the very long 30-40 second finish. Nice mouthfeel and acidity to this wine...quite enjoyable!

Clear golden yellow color. The nose has honeyed lemon and pineapple with a sort of dryer sheet note (crazy?). The mouth is focused, lean and reveals a high acidity. The flavors are lychee, lemon and green notes of lees. I will decant and re-taste. After 1.5 hours of air, the aromatics mellow and the flavors turn to honeyed marmalade. The fruit does not resolve but the finish lasts a full 30 seconds with heat toward the last 15.
