So, I opened this next to a Badia a Coultobuono 1997 Chianti Riserva. The Badia blew it away. This was still ok though, taste was a little sour...way past it's prime. Should have opened it up years ago, but was waiting for this type of moment..still ok, not terrible...burmt the difference was measurable....

Doft av fullmogna körsbär. Lätt kryddig. Smak Halm, lätt stall, mörka körsbär. Lite fänkål. Öppna och drick efter en timme. Behöver inte så mycket luft och vann absolut inte på en natt i kylskåpet. Medelfylligt vin. Gott! 90

2010 Chianti Classico's and a couple of others; 11/19/2014-11/20/2014 (Chris H's home): Really nice showing. I opened this, bought on release and stored by me, to show that Chianti does age well. This worked out great. Still purple in color with ruby at the rim. The nose has cherries, some fennel and some old furniture qualities. On the palate, this does not drink old, but also does not show a lot of age. Slight tannins. Plenty of cherry and dark cherry fruit left. Nice bright acidity. Some layers of complexity. Long finish. Based on this bottle, while it may not improve much, no hurry either.

Aurais été meilleur l'an passé car son oxydation commence à être envahissante. Bon vin mais sans grande longueur ni beau fruit comme il devrait l'être.

Wie was kept OK, but could have been better maintained by me. Cork was wet 3/4 of the way up, but was firm and appeared to be good. Pale rim that is starting to get a hint of bronze, burgundy core, but not an intense color. White pepper and pine on the nose. Taste was very balanced and improved as it sat in the decanter for several hours. Was kept in the cellar so consumption temperature was 60F or so. There is nice structure but the fruit is gone leaving some forest and even a little floral notes. Plum and sour cherry are there if you really look for them, but it feels like it has gone too long. Still, there is a great mouthfeel and the wine seems "rich" and complex. Very enjoyable, glad I held it.

I did not decant this well enough. Even after an hour, the wine was still stuffy and harsh. But the fruit was still there. I think it is past prime. Will try another bottle soon.

Outstanding. I am so glad that we held on this bottle. In the glass a maroon color with faint brown edges. Silky and long finish with fantastic deep dark chocolate notes.

Ducale Oro is a sentimental favorite, being the wine my well meaning Italian father stored away for all of our birth year wines. I generally find it a little thin and unexciting, and was not expecting great things from this bottle, thinking it was somewhat past its prime. I was rather surprised. Muted nose, but very balanced with good fruit, dark cherry and some tobacco on the nose. Wine opened up over 1 1/2 hours (with hour decant prior). Very nice accompaniment to the antipasti tray at dinner, with smoked meats, cheeses and rosemary Fontina flatbread with crushed tomatoes. I'm probably overvaluing it by a point, but I was really happy with and am glad I've got one more in the celalr.

was a nice complement to a smoked Turkey, goat cheese scalloped potatoes, green beans, and corn-meal sausage stuffing. Did not hold flavor on the tongue beyond a couple of moments, but still was very good. agree with receommendation to drink now, since it will not be getting any better.

Last bottle. A bit of sulphur on the nose with a hint of cherries and tuscan earth. In the mouth you get some dark cherries, leather, firm tannins and a hint of road tar. This wine is tight. it will be interesting to see what more it gives over the next few hours.

Getting to the end of it's drinking window, or a bit past. Still slight hints of fruit but mostly dry tobacco, bramble. Have another that I'll open in the near future and see if it's any better.

Color is perfect, clear, deep red. Interesting and pleasant nose of sweet cherry and grape, with passing notes of barnyard, garlic, and stewed tomatoes. Similar palate, with a touch more funk. Beautiful balance, just a shade past perfect maturity, just enough structure to make it nice with a tomato-based sauce. Lovely mature wine.

Last of it's kind. Tasted at 30 minute intervals during a 2 hour decanting and served with Christmas dinner. While still excellent, I tend to echo some other tasting notes about a seeming "decline", confirming the accuracy of the drinking window for sure.

A disappointment. Can't tell for sure if it needed more time or not. Either it was "closed down" as they say, or it was just not that interesting. Modest nose of sangiovese fruit and a fairly one dimensional palate without much length and no tannins or clear structure. I nice simple quaff, but nothing to write home about.

Nice color out of the bottle. Good nose to it. It took a lot of air before it came out on it's own. When it did it was nice, but not outstanding. This was one of my first favorite wines, so I was a little disappointed in it 5-6 years later. Perhaps it's on the decline now. Perhaps my palate is more refined now.

Decanted ~ 30 minutes. Dark ruby red to rim. Aromas of vanilla, black cherries, black plums, earth, smoke, raspberries, and currant. Medium-bodied, fresh tasting, clean wine with cherries, a hint of spice and a bit of milk chocolate. Tannins are fully integrated. Short finish, ~15-20s, with spice and orange rind notes. Slightly disappointing; was expecting more. Drink now with food.
