Dark-fruited notes of plum, black raspberry, and fig supported by delicate undertones of forest floor. However, the palate is a bit hollow and one-dimensional, and the alcohol and acid additions come back to bite you on the finish. Difficult to determine whether this wine is just going through an awkward phase or is on the decline; I sincerely hope it's the former.

Last of 6 bottles purchased. Medium dark garnet colour typical of this form of Pinot Noir. Interesting nose of sour cherry and cola that carries through to the palate. Some baking spice too in the background. A little tart on the finish. A nice drink.

This is a nice wine in its own right, buy not a good pairing with grilled salmon we had tonight. this is dark red, big and a little high in the alcohol department. No earthy notes, more like cherry cola. May go well with red meat or just have it on its own next time.

This is nice. Needs a bit of time to air out. Certainly cali-style pinot, but done well with rich ripe fruits, almost overripe, black cherry and nutmeg and cloves.

I'm glad I didn't read the WS review first--I really didn't find this to be as concentrated as the review indicated. What was nice was how steady the fruit evolved across the palate to a finish that still had fruit but now mixed with oak and a bit of mineral. The fruitiness was good against our borscht and potato pierogi dinner. Should pair the next bottle with some lamb or beef as a contrast.
02/29/2016. Still taking some time for the fruit to show itself. But there's still a good structure so enjoyable while it evolves. Quite nice with a ropa viejo.
12/15/2023 Still holding bramble-y fruit, a touch of acid up front, a little soft in the middle (like many of us), but a little oak on the end to bring it all together. Very happy with how this held up over 15 years.

Limited Note: Deep purple-crimson, sweet cranberry/raspberry nose, highly extracted mouth with almost overripe presence. None of the effervescence that I detected in all previous bottles, but this just never cracked higher than a 92 for me and this last bottle is only a 90. For me (and every friend I ever shared a bottle with) this never lived up to the praises of James Laube.
Last tasted 08/09.

Opened last night, I didn't even taste it until today so call it about a day of air. Deep flavors of cherry/black cherry, more like a cherry jam then a juicy cherry. There are some shadings of forest floor and orange peel resting within the cherry flavor, along with some mocha and mineral in the finish. The weight of the wine is the dominant player here that carries to a long finish. Even with the amount of aeration I mentioned here, the win still feels tense and wrapped up some I don't see this wine fading any time in the near term. Thus, I'd let some of the mocha oak edges fade into the wine and allow the red fruit pull forward so drink 2012-2013.

Dark, Dark ruby. High viscosity. Nose of dark cherry, blackberry, meat and wet rocks. Big, ripe dark fruit on the palate, nice acidity, long finish with a bit of heat at the end, but I should probably have this a bit cooler. If you like big CA pinot this wine will be pleasing. I may try to cool it a bit and see if it helps the heat.

Dark red ruby in color, this pinot featured a weighty body and blueberry, blackberry and black cherry flavors accented by baking spice. This was an enjoyable pinot, just staying away from being overly extracted and syrah-like.

Super-extracted, dark violet, big nose of berries and smoke/wood. Reasonable acidity helps balance the extraction, though it comes across as rather one dimensional and a bit bitter on the finish. No denying some good fruit and even some minerality, pretty tasty all in all, but just sort of disjointed. A little hot as it warms up.

Twisted the Stelvin and poured. My nose is soon met with a woodsy, smoky bouquet with a touch of roasted marshmallow. The wine has notes of cranberries and cherries. This has a nice balance; some good crispness that wakens the mouth. At first, you are hit with lush fruit but then the wine dances on your tongue and the roof of your mouth with a lively peppery and dried cranberry element. Very tasty juice. I am not getting the super rich syrupy wine that WS/JL found worthy of 95 points but still this is a very nice wine.

14.8% alcohol. Very dark black cherry color. Initially very tight, but opened up within an hour and continued to reveal itself over the ensuring several hours. Plush, ripe nose of blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry, with a touch of oak and intense minerality. In the mouth, concentrated and well focused, with quite a lot of intensity. A somewhat smokey edge to the palate is more focused on dark Pinot fruit that is ripe and intense. Bright acidity, minerality, and earth add complexity. A touch of heat on the finish doesn't upset the overall balance. A-

Wow, what a disappointment. Opened up after a stressful week hoping for a big rich pinot to suit some duck breast.
Dark red; nose with caramel toffee, clove spiced raspberries- later even a bit of expresso (almost CdP like IMO, and '07 CdP at that); big upfront sweet fruit that thinned out incredibly so into a tart finish.
IMO tasted like a wannabe of a big Cali style pinot. I appreciate me some big pinots but this didn't fulfill. Bummer.

I've finally gone through all of the 07 AP Vin wines. I've been holding out on the Turner for a while since I only had one bottle and now, of course, I wish I had a few more. Of the six, this one ranks #2 for me, between the stellar Garys' Vineyard and the nearly as good Clos Pepe Vineyard. Plenty of stuffing in the highly extracted, dense, fruit filled wine. Not an overabundance of oak but still enough to make things interesting. Finish is nice and silky, lingering for some time.

Didn't get the benfit of a 2hr decant, as Michael's Genuine decanted the 05 Clos Pepe, which Michael Schwartz wound up drinking with his 45th birthday dinner. Didn't miss much, as the bouquet was there from the get go, ripe, but not as memorable as prior bottlines.

Tasted this with Scott, first A.P. Vin. I'm not a huge Cali. pinot fan, but this was pretty good. I felt that the nose, which was pretty muted, but had some clove and a little heat, was moving away from the palate, which was much better. Very purple(young)tasting, with nice sappy grip. Just a tad hot but, but has a delicious taste. Did not have time to decant, but would be interesting to see in a couple of years.

Dinner Party at Home w Danny Spring & Jean Marc DeSilva and Arlene & Paul Rogoff (1915 Brickell Avenue, C1507, Miami, FL): Gave it and 04 DuMol Ryan V. 2-1/2 hour decant, prior to serving with Ellen's take on Patrick Oconnell's "dry" Sea of Cortez Diver Scallops w sweet Italian sausage, mushrooms, and red pepper couilis(from which she forgot to add a splash of pernod at the end). It followed the more aromatic Ryan. Having loved it 2 weeks ago, at Michael's Genuine, I bought this when we were back to Michael's the night before.(I paid list, but Mckenzie agreed to waive the corkage on my wine). I wanted to see how it stacked up vs the CT 93.7 favorite DuMol Ryan.
It fared well. While, I preferred the older, more aromatic DuMol, Ellen, Paul, Danny, and Jean Marc preferred the A. P. Vin Turner V. A little tight aromatically, after the long decant, but still has a wonderful blueberry compote taste, and an excellent finish. It will be interesting to see where this wine is 2 years from now. Again, Congratulations, Andrew!

ANDREW, an EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT. BRAVO!! I had read WS "Hot Wines" acclaim for the 07 Turner V., and coincidentally was at an adjoining table to Andrew, Tim Perr(Pali), and Roger Roessler, at Prime 112 last Saturday. I reintroduced myself to Andrew, Tim, and Roger having spent time with them last year at Mike Bittel's Loring Gang party. I congratulated Andrew on the WS recognition. I followed up with an e-mail to Andrew as to where I could find the wine in south Florida, or if any were still available directly. He replied there was no more available directly, but 3 cases had gone to S. Florida with 1cs @ to Prime and Michael's Genuine, our favorite and oft frequented restaurants.
I then e-mailed Charles Bell @ Michael's Genuine to ask Mckenzie to put one aside for our next visit. On Thursday we suddenly changed our prior reservation at 1 Blue to Michael's. I asked that McKenzie decant the wine at 6pm for our 8 dinner. It was perfect. One of the best Pinot Noir's,globally, I have ever had, and only 2nd in my recent memory to the 99 Talley Rosemary's vineyard which I had probably 3 years ago. Excellent bouquet, low acidity, remarkable balance. I guess others blueberry, blackberry fruit profile are correct, I'm not sure? Given the absence of acidity, and the great pleasure the Turner gives now I would suggest not waiting on this wonder. Again, ANDREW, BRAVO!!!

a bit overripe black cherry cola and spice is secondary to the wood and black tea; a bit flabby, and with the wood, it seems ponderous; not my style.
