Out last bottle of this and it didn't disappoint. Opened late afternoon just in case it needed a decant -- that was a good call, as a small splash of it into the glass did not impress. So poured the bottle into decanter and allowed it to sit for 2 hours. That did the trick. The nose was still a bit muted, with some dried fruits and cherries coming through. But this was singing on the palate. Plums, dark berries and leather dominated with some dark chocolate. Such a smooth silky mouthfeel with just a bit of dustiness at the end. Really long finish with more plums, dried herbs, and cocoa powder notes. This is right in its prime but still a lot of life to go. Pretty bummed to not have any more in the cellar. Drink up.

This 2007 still has alot of life ahead of it. I didn't think it was going to need a decant but it didn't fully open up for 2 hours. This CdP is a blend of Grenache and Syrah. Red cherry, pepper, leather, dry earth.

colour is med and clear. high glycerin, lots of sediment in bottle. outstanding nose... rich, fruity (blue and red berries), peppery and herbal. palate is bright, high acidity, white pepper, red berry fruit, tart. a very nice finish too, with some well integrated tannin and an attractive sweet herbaceous note that holds. excellent now and years to go i suspect.

There are very few 2007 CDP wines that I have enjoyed to date. This one is one of the few. While it didn't have enough personality for it to be a memorable tasting experience, it also wasn't overdone, extracted, raisin grape juice either. Good wine, but lacked some soul.

Garnet colored, slow legs, nose of earth and wood. Somewhat reserved on the first taste, and a bit acidic. Much better after a few hours in the decanter and with steak (a well marbled porterhouse) - the acid in the wine cuts through the fat nicely.

Quite a bit of bricking would defy it's age. From the color I would have guessed a much older wine. Soft tannins knitted seamlessly around core fruits of strawberries, pomegranates, raspberries but with strength to really shine on the palate. Truly a pleasure and in a really good place. Probably will age well but to me it is time to enjoy this.

At Harry's Xmas Eve dinner. From a magnum opened 6 hours before dinner. Fruit on the nose, the palate was red and dark fruit with the red being dominate also some earth tones, wood and mushroom. The finish was moderate to long. Served with the main course of a stuffed roast crown of pork and it was an excellent pairing.

Dark red color and very fragrant. On the palate, ripe red and dark fruits, still quite fresh, some nice earthiness, silky texture and pleasant acidity. Good balance and purity. An excellent CNP that is in a good place now, but has enough structure to last for quite awhile. This producer's wines are consistently a good value.

Casual Wednesday at Chateau Davyd. Tasted blind. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clemn, medium intensity, with aromas of mushroom, tomato stew, earth, tea leaves. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (15%), medium+ tannnins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet tea leaves, licorice, pruney sour red cherries, earth, meat with more air. Medium finish. Acceptable quality. May have been good when it was younger. This bottle (?premature ageing due to provenance?) is clearly tertiary-like with fading fruit. 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from vines that range in age from 30 to 50 years. Aged in a combination of demi-muids and foudres.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape 1998 vs. 2007 dinner. Wish I had tasting notes, but we had 6 wines before and during dinner. I think this is the first time I have tried this wine. I really liked it, I seem to remember really tasting the Syrah, and I think this CDP has more Syrah than most CDPs.

Very youthful appearance, medium colour. The sweetness shows right out of the bottle. But the wine took a good two hours in the decanter before the complexity and perfume truly came to the fore. Black fruits, flowers, red meat. A lovely long finish. I would give this another two years.

I had this with a large group for dinner so I wasn't paying close enough attention to write a detailed note, but this was drinking very well. I concur with the prior two notes, and would add that for an 2007 southern rhone I was pleasantly surprised how restrained and well balanced this was. Excellent pairing with a rack of lamb.

This wine is very good and currently showing very well with a moderate decant. The nose had notes of black cherry, raspberry and smokey white pepper. Very berry driven with herbal undertones and a slim jim note that evolved somewhat throughout the night. The palate is very energetic. All in all very good and very forward as many of the '07s tend to be but far from over the top or sappy. Definitely a tasty drink but not as deep or complex as can be found currently in the Southern Rhone market for the $40 tariff paid. Will be better in 3 years.

Decanted and drank over 1 hour. I really enjoyed this. Red and black fruits, meat, bacon, herbs on the palate and nose. This is forward and pretty and took on some more weight with time in the glass. Medium+ finish with lingering black fruit and herbs.

Blind Southern Rhone Lineup: Vibrant ruby, translucent, clear 1-2mm meniscus. Crisp bacon aromas, garrigue, pomegranate, dried cherry and cranberry, and cedary top notes. Tart flavor dynamic, sinewy structure, layered within a framework of Red Man, blackberry, Nibs and sweet jerky. Secondary impressions after a few hours on air: horse-y nose, brett and barnyard, brussel sprouts (sauteed). Interesting wine that I certainly didn't peg as a CdP Cuvee Speciale. Very much a northern sector expression of CdP--cool(er) climate characteristics, which prompted an assumption this was higher elevation Gigondas.

This took a while to open up. A restaurant decanted for us from the moment we arrived until entrees, so I suspect about an hour. When poured, it was pleasant, but very restrained. After 10 minutes in glass (with lots of swirling), the wine woke up. Nice nose. Palate: Dark berries, with a tiny bit of minerals and metal. Very smooth body. 15-20 sec finish. Overall, it was a bit of a disappointment given the crazy ratings from the experts, but on its own, it is an excellent CDP in an approachable style. We all enjoyed it very much with our meal.

Good, but young, save for 4-5 years more. Soft and fruity now, not so complex, aromas are nice but the palate needs time to develop. Nose has some flowers, palate some cocoa, currants and raspberries. A little disappointed.

Vibrant, bright red fruits on the nose with tobacco and lavender for sure. This put on weight in the glass/ bottle, and was richer and longer on the second day (re-corked in the fridge). A refreshing and energetic drink that has medium weight, but strong nervy grip.

There is a lot to like about this wine, including the price! Jammy blackberry, stone, earth, Provencal herbs, black rasperry jam and spice aromas are all over the place. Fairly dense red, ruby on the edges. Nose of wet rocks, leather, violets, lavender, rosemary, tarragon, and strawberries. Light and dark red fruit, layer after layer, with secondary nuances of meat, blood, soy, bramble, garrigue. Supple, velvety, mouth feel. Great acidic backbone and accessible tannin. Finish is pleasurable, with waves of the aforementioned secondaries.
To this point, the best 2007 CdP I have had the pleasure to try, and a pure steal at the price. Back up the truck!

Dinner with GaryV and Friends (Mado, chicago IL): nose: real tasty nose of herbs, black cherries, garrigue, spices, dark fruits and bits of perfumes. Real good depth with a sleekness to it as well
taste: great medium feel with excellent tones of herbs, black cherries, garrigue, and bits of black fruits and spices. Decent supporting tannins and the feel is very polished
overall: a real quality wine. Shows off the vintage and has a real sexiness to it. Holding back right now, this could be really good in another 4-5 years

A bit tight and unyielding at this point, but clearly a lot of potential. I'd wait a few years before consuming.

Decanted and drank over 1 hour. I really enjoyed this. Red and black fruits, meat, bacon, herbs on the palate and nose. This is forward and pretty and took on some more weight with time in the glass. Medium+ finish with lingering black fruit and herbs.

- Crimsom color. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish - Decanted for 30 mins and drank over 2 hours. Nice flavors of ripe berries, cocoa powder, and cherries. Finishes with smoked meat and spices.

We all enjoyed it very much with our meal.

nice soft round tannins. This is ready to drink now. Barely needed to decant. Delicious!

Good, but young, save for 4-5 years more. Soft and fruity now, not so complex, aromas are nice but the palate needs time to develop. Nose has some flowers, palate some cocoa, currants and raspberries. A little disappointed.

Spectacular. medium body & 14%. not over the top like so many 2007s. Opened up nicely after an hour in the decanter. Lots of spice, structure and fruit.

This voluptuous, full bodied wine finishes with a big mouthful of sweet, jammy berries and kirsch. This is worth buying by the case!

Nice on day 1 (91pts), but killer on day 2 (96pts). Was disappointed upon opening. Softened up by day 2, but still maintained complex fruit & secondary notes. very well balanced on day 2. This will be a hell of a bottle in time.

Rich, dark, ready to drink, seems even better than Parker's rating and description.

More delicate and Pinot like than expected with wonderful exotic notes. Medium ruby color, hot nose. Meat, brush, olives, cranberry, and honey and herbs. Super-smooth as a baby. Lingering finish.

Dinner in Chicago (w/ GV); 2/18/2010-2/19/2010 (Mado, Wicker Park, Chicago, Illinois): Disappointed by this bottle. It had nice tart cherry, slight pipe tobacco, with some dried herbs. This had a VERY tight nose but was drinking well. Didn't compare to other bottles I've had of this...so i'm confused.
