Excellent wine (especially for the price) with no noticeable flaws. This wine is a full SLH wine and rewards with the gummy dark brooding fruits backed by good terroir amid some chalk and loam. Finish is elegant. Drink this when you want a full bodied Pinot. This is not a fruit bomb but also austere in no sense of the word. Drinking well now. It will not benefit from more time.

Third note, one and half years after last note and two and a half years after the first note. Remains a dark brooding maroon in the glass that opens thick and heavy on the tongue. Plums, backberry, black cherry and coffee predominate, and quite rich. For fans of the ripe rich style. Long finish. No evidence of decline or mellowing yet.

Wonderful gift from the Pisoni family. Cherry, bright, not too fruity. Didn't decant and opened up a bit after 15 minutes. But the bottle didn't last long enough to see it after a few hours.

Gift from Gary Pisoni during our visit. Pop n pour. Deep ruby color showed classic Santa Lucia traits. Raspberry, tart cherry with oak, cola and spice. Opened up after an hour and really rocked. Strange how these rarely get to see the day 2 progression.

As this is a more expensive wine than I typically buy, I've been holding on to it. The fates decreed that tonight was the night, and we won't be able to say anything about how good it is the second night. Popped & poured, initially through a Vinturi but it really didn't need it. Lush raspberry and black cherry, cinnamon and oak overtones on the nose give way to tart cherry and cranberry flavors. Nice flourish, with a nice oak treatment and a gentle landing on the finish.

PnP (two nights). Reddish-brown violet. Strawberry/cherry, burnt tea, pine floor, spice on nose. Medium intensity fruit on palate that is beautifully balanced with acidity that has a bare hint of mineral. Fruit has a round texture that marks this as Cali, but the flavor/aroma profile and structure are first rate and make this a pleasure to drink (pasta on first night and cheese course on 2nd).

Restaurant purchase - PnP - no notes. Dark cherry and plum with minerals and a medium to full-bodied, soft, velvety texture. Rounded edges with low acidity and soft tannins. Overall very mellow but with good flavor intensity. Would have rated much higher if there were more structure or grip.

Slightly more than a year after the last note on this wine and the wine seems to be evolving nicely, albeit a slow evolution. A dark maroon showing no sign of age in the color. Full rich and somewhat sweet nose with ripe cherry, plum, and dark fruit. I did not note any coffee/cocoa flavors this time, but sweet ripe cherry was in the forefront. Also, the initial burst of alcohol seen a year ago has resolved a bit. Very fruit forward at this point, but still hinting at more development.

Over a year since the previous bottle.........sweet plum, strawberry, the plump flavors and sweet edges, along with the oak seasoning and vanilla--all here. I still like this expression but my palate leans more now to the savory, leaner, higher acids for pinot. As for this wine, and Jeff did fine a job with it, it shows square on an SLH profile, with these flavors and citrusy acidity and a funky note. I don't sense any alcohol and so what remains is a more forward red and black fruited pinot with what I think is a bit too much oak so I'd say wait on this wine longer if you have one and let the wood settle in or drink if you're in a more CA-centric, decadent mood!

Decanted for 2hrs, drank over 3hrs: Color-deep purple with clear bricking/Nose-heavy etoh/Taste-tangy cherry/forest floor/spice/Finish-tannins show up, while the acidity keeps it interesting. Way too young to try a Pisoni PN, but very interesting nontheless. Based on some experienced tasters (with SLH pinot) notes and my experience tonight, I have no doubt that this will continue to evolve and integrate with time. No worries (unlike some zero acid Cali 07's) about this one continuing to progress with age. I will wait another 6 months to try my next bottle.

Nice Santa Rosa, California, Pinot Noir, red fruit clearly apparent on the nose, beautiful cranberry red, semi-translucent, red fruit tastes, very fruit driven. Round wine, supple, soft, mid-weight Pinot. Great mouth-watering acidity, long finish. If I had to pick out fruit it would be red cherry, strawberry, and it's tart, maybe a bit of white pepper or something similar.

Cherries, a little sweet strawberry, pepper, roasted meat, and some forrest floor. A great bottle to drink while laying down the Garys' and Rosella's vineyard designated bottles.

Dark and bold and likely to improve. Dark fruits, hints of coffee, long finish but offset by a distinct tinge of alcohol on the nose. Gives way slightly with time. My instinct is to wait a year or so and try again.

Medium to deep red in color. Very expressive on the nose with fresh cut flowers, blackberries, spice and forest floor. Great density and complexity of flavors on the palate. Supple, ripe tannins. Very long finish. Even better on day two!

Will not score this as I knew it was way too young, but I was too impatient to see where it is right now. Nose is filled with alcohol and white truffle oil. Palate is showing very little cherry and what is there is bright but the truffle oil notes along with pancetta flavors dominates and really is turning me off. Long finish and mouth watering but heed my warning and let it rest a few years.

Dark ruby color with a garnet edge, dark berries on the nose with a backing of tart cherry and subtle earth components. Great mouth feel and acidic balance showing a wealth of unresolved fruit texture on the palate. This should develop well...

Nice medium to firm dark ruby red color...strong dark berry notes with a light nod to cherry and an undercurrent of turned earth notes. Good acidic balance and a lot going on in a wandering palate that showed several different layers of personality.

Plump, fat, with dark cherry, a gamey note and a roasted toasty finish. Coming back to the wine about 45 mins later, same flavors but more focus. This for me is the first Lucia SLH that has showed this level of complexity and red roasted flavors and probably will be the best Lucia SLH pinot made to date IMO. At the end of the evening, tried the wine again and it picked up some sweet edges, too. Excellent.

Beautiful nose of strawberry and sweet cherries. First sip shows a bit of heat and sour/tart cherries, then it unwinds and holds up with cherries and nice spices. Probably an 88 now and soon to be a 90 so we'll throw down an 89. Will revisit over the next hour or so.
