Sure, it's a bit oak-y but that didn't take away from this excellent bottle of aged cabernet. I will admit, I mostly drink French and Italian wine but Ridge just does it for me. I expected an over the hill bottle but it was anything but. The cork was perfect and the wine had all the familiar notes of Ridge...some oak, some sweet black fruit, leather. Tannins are gone but there is still a lot of life left in this bottle. I just dont see how it can improve.

Bottle at room temperature for a day and open for an hour or two. Not decanted. Unimpressive nose with some cherry in it, but big flavor with more fruit and leather and tobacco. Decent finish. Relatively low alcohol paired with the big flavor makes this interesting. This bottle seems very different from the one I opened a year ago.

Cork was bad, wine was undrinkable. Too bad this was a great wine when I first purchased this after a visit to Ridge. Serves me right for storing in the wrong conditions. Most likely cooked during the move from CA to AZ and not storing in the right conditions.

A straightforward good Cabernet. Very dark, almost black. Pretty soft on nose and palate by now (July 2009), losing some fruit and most tannins, but still good. Not much complexity left, but a good wine with for example yellow cheese.

Pine/forest floor, lots of mint, very spicy on the finish. Still tannic. Some noticable alcohol--a perfect example that it's not the ABV (here 12.5%) which makes a wine hot, but whether there is enough wine to support it.

Tasted at a retailer-held Ridge tasting in Sacramento on 4/25/03.
This was the second wine of the tasting. A simple cab, with some green notes. Would not have expected as much green as I detected. Short finish. 83 points. Drink now, or give away.

Slightly corked. Still drinkable, but barely. Worse for me, because the others didn't really recognize the corked flavor, just the diminished fruit.
