  • Steely, linear, and mineral. This is lightweight Gruner and relatively simple--but it is nevertheless quite enjoyable and has all the hallmarks of a good Austrian wine. Refreshing grapefruit citrus, lingering minerality, and strong acidity make this a great weeknight wine.

  • Golden color. Nose of limestone and melon fruit. Tastes of apple, lemon and lime fruit. Well balanced. Crisp clean finish with some depth.

  • Good clarity, clear fruit, with an interesting note of black pepper or jalepeno. There is some soft peachiness to the palate, but it's understated. Drank well over three or four nights, except on the final night when the palate was rather round and soft, too much so, and lacked cut. Good wine, but not more than that.

  • One of the more maligned wines at our Austro-Hungarian wine tasting, but not by me. Another varietal that is admittedly hard to get and sadly being grossly abused by hordes of untalented winemakers pushing it as a gimmicky flavor of the month. This one at least is technically correct. Some nice gunflint, grapefruit and steely minerality, but alas lacking the alleged Gruner pepper undercurrent. Still, sipping it with cheese on the front porch after work it is nice nice baby. Were it not over-marked at our local wine monger ($21) and closer to the price listed here ($16) I would buy it more often. It may yet go on my list of summer porch wines.

  • Steely grapefruit on the nose and the palate in the lean, linear, tightly-wound package. As always, strong minerality is this wine's greatest attribute. Nigl delivers again.

  • As good as ever. Lemon and ripe pear, white pepper hints that grow and suggestion of wax. Typical mineral palate that intensified with air - intense lemon, apple and tangerine. Crunchy acidity with excellent cleansing length.

  • very good wine, and a good value too. this shows the lactic/milky lemongrass zesty characteristics of gruner. it is airy and pure, with an expansive nose and a lithe and acidic palate. it does not show any real depth, even on day 2, and in this regard it is not better than the best $10 liter soda cap bottle. which in the end, makes me think that the $10 liter is a better way to go, if buying entry level gruner.

  • Zingy with it's citrus acidity like a sauv blanc but rounder with it's fruit. Really clean palate, lemons, light oranges, maybe even some tangerine. Very balanced between flavor and acidity and tapers off nicely into the finish. Medium intensity acidity and flavor throughout. The acidity hangs around on the sides of the tongue once the finish ends, this would be great with seafood or white sauce.

  • Nice lemongrass, some apple, and a bit of cheese rind on the nose. The more I smell it, the more I like it. The wine is crisp and clean across the palate with some nice ripe apple flavor, and something that reminds me of dry grass on a hot day. The fruit flavors linger well, and remain clean easily 10s after the finish. The acidity strikes immediately, but doesn't become too strong, and then it slowly fades off with the fruit.

  • The 2007 is one of my favorite QPRs (and favorite wines overall) of recent years so I sought this one out. Not quite the crushing minerality of the 07, but this was more richly fruited and retained the excellent balance. Intense grapefruit dusted with black pepper is wrapped in a frame of strong minerality and tart acidity. Great effort. For my taste, maybe not as unique and appealing as the 07, but it's an unqualified winner from a producer I like more and more.
