Double blind. Bizarre cloudy light fruit punch color. Powerful pomegranate, apricot, fruit roll up nose. Cinnamon red hots, rhubarb, montmorency cherry, prickly Pinot verve here for sure with almost tartaric acidity. Clearly new world Pinot but I don't think I've ever had something quite like this before.

13.8% alcohol. This is drinking beautifully. Soaring nose of red and black cherry, a touch of tea, some baking spice, and minerals. In the mouth, linear, juicy, and exploding with cherry notes, impressive complexity, good acidity, and a long finish. Rocking bottle. A-/A

Carefully decanted sediment and let breathe for over an hour. Nice spice and underlying savory tones to complement the tart berry profile. Good mineral and more elegance than your pervasive RRV style. This is in a good place and is definitely different than when it was young. Could go a few years more. A distinctive wine from perhaps the last RRV producer that I like.

Last bottle (of this vintage). Still enjoyable, but on the decline. My wife commented that she liked it, before knowing what it was. I think it has become a little too stewed fruit, while still maintaining a reasonable amount of fresh fruit and acidity. Just not as nicely in balance as it was a few years ago. I have the better part of a case of the '09 to look forward to, and I suspect it will last longer.

Fantastic. Quintessential Swan Pinot spice on the nose, and palate - this is a wonderful opportunity to taste Rod Berglund's winemaking expertise (and great fruit sources) in an early-drinking Swan Pinot. A rare opportunity at that. Great finish, pairs well with food - excellent overall.

Notes of mushrooms, bacon and earth on the nose. On the palate there is laser focused red fruit with notes of raspberries, sour cherries and pomegranate with mushrooms and earth rounding out the flavors in the middle. This wine finishes with red fruits expanding on to the palate with notes of Indian spices.

13.8% alcohol. What a smoking bottle of wine. Red cherry color. Glorious nose of red cherry, spice, earth, and minerals. In the mouth, elegant, balanced, racy, and concentrated. This has such great purity of flavor, with red cherry notes stealing the show up front but supported by ample baking spice, earth, and floral components. Juicy acidity leads to a lingering finish. This is making a case that it might develop to be even better than the glorious 2005. A-/A

Medium red color and medium body. Pleasant strawberry nose with strawberry and some cherryish flavor. This is the last bottle of 16 starting with when the wine was introduced. This last one needed to move out to make room for others since we are living in temporary housing without enough controlled temperature. The first 6 bottles were hedonistic and couldn't keep my hands off them. All the flavors and complexity described in the Spectator were present. The next 4 were pick up bottles that in retrospect hadn't been well stored because the wine was on the downhill slope. The last 6 were stored perfectly and were surprising. In contrast to the previous review citing high pH, these were acidic, very low pH (I couldn't even guess a number). The wine was not tannic but the acidity overwhelmed the mouth feel until subdued by extended aeration. For those holding bottles well kept it may be well to hold longer. I suspect secondary aromas and flavors are calendared for the future. Giving the benefit of the doubt for improvement, 90 ... 87-90 is the range. At this point the 2008 is a much more enjoyable wine. I really love the Swan wines so the style works for me but right now the acidity is dominant.

This is now all black cherry with a touch of alcohol. Eucalyptus notes, some bright red fruits, and almost a hint of overripeness in this bottle as showing tonight. I would say drink up, but it is a hedonistic bottle now. Very well done.

This is as good a QPR Pinot Noir as you'll find out there. Kick of tangy red and black cherry at the outset but also a lush, silky midpalate for an excellent mouth feel. Earth notes and spice on the finish. Drank over two days. Wine mellowed slightly on day 2 but was just as enjoyable.

13.8% alcohol. This is such an outstanding Cuvee de Trois. Red cherry color. Fantastic, pure nose of black cherry, baking spice, and earth. Still showing pretty tight, although even when it's tight, this wine is aromatic and delicious. Light red color, clear at the rim of the glass. Long finish. This has just begun to unwind. A-

After reading numerous glowing references to this wine on the eBob (former member) and Wineberserkers forum, I went in for a case at a local retailer. I decanted in a plain Riedel O decanter for 90 minutes and drank over 4 hours. This wine was wonderful, tart red fruits, limited oak influences, and enough earth to enjoy but not enough to make me vomit from "terrior" influence. Gorgeous spicy cherry and tea on the taste, finish had a tannic quality, but they were very well integrated with the combination of acidity and fruit from the wine. We enjoyed this with an Ad Hoc dinner of romano beans with mint (we cheated and used haricot verts), garlic pureed potatoes, and tarragon chicken. This was a very food friendly wine. Note, with air after 4 hours, the wine became very acidic with very sharp/bitter fruit, not enjoyable. Perhaps an awkward stage, but this did not take away from the experience that we enjoyed from 90 minutes of air to 3 hours of air. We will put the majority of the case away for a while, but will peek in a couple months due to our enjoyment of this wine. Well done,

About an hour decant @68F. I’ve been looking forward to trying this wine again. Clean cork, but loads of sediment and grape gunk on the bottom side of the bottle. COLOR- has a dirty, ruddy lavender color to it with plenty of particulates floating about in the musty swash. NOSE- true cherry/vanilla soda pop, sarsaparilla, beautiful red raspberry, bright blueberry, jelly drop butter cookies, all with a detergent like floral aroma (I think it’s Comet) tying off the superb bouquet; ultra-pretty, clean, and layered with a kind of complexity in the true fruits. This is just singing on the nose. PALATE- a very acid driven, medium/light-bodied palate play that's showing a bit more bitter and austere then at last. A couple more sips into the glass and as my fresh palate adjusts to the acids, I'm getting more flavor weight on this with a full mid-palate of red berry fruit juice accompanied by a cookie dough vanilla cream element that's nothing at all cloying for me. Where the entry is light and a touch shocking with its acid play, and the mid-palate fuller and more fruity, this really picks up focus dovetailing off that creamier fullness to a spicy, drier, and elongated finish, laying the bricks down the rear middle palate. I'm happy to find the tannins there adding structure and drying out my teeth a bit. This has wonderful balance, and not the least bit of alcohol burn with it's 13 odd percent ABV. I think that focus on the finish is what knocks this up into the Outstanding category for me. It's drinking like a 91+ for me right now, but I have little doubt this will make its way up a point on the scale as I get deeper into the decanter where all that good grape pulp and concentration is sure to be lurking. One more sip... and yeah, I'll give it the benefit of any doubt.

Decanted for 1 hour, quite a bit of sediment. Bold smokey black cherries and spice on the nose. Palette is crisp and precise, with warm red fruit and enough acidity to cut through the oily grilled salmon we were enjoying. An excellent QPR RRV pinot with more balance than you'd expect at this price.

This should the poster child for the Vinturi aerator. It took this wine from a way-too-acidic 86 to a beutifully-integrated, light-but-flavorful 91. Paired wonderfully with a block of aged jack.

A little disappointing. Not a bad wine by any means, but for an 07 rrv should have more body then it does. Very light and acidic. Good oak integration and ripe fruit, but the acids are too high. Although it does pair well with mushrooms.

13.8% alcohol. Time to test the bottled product. It doesn't disappoint. Pretty light red cherry color. Gorgeously aromatic on the nose, in spite of clearly being a bit closed down and youthful. Red cherry, black cherry, spice, and flowers jump out of the glass. In the mouth, a laser-like burst of cherry fruit coats your palate, then cascades down earthy and floral complexity. The acidity is precocious at this stage, along with a bright mineral streak. Beautiful finish sails on. A couple years indeed will help, but this is awesome. A-/A

Fantastic value Pinot. Smells of red fruit, maybe a little bit of cranberry in addition to more traditional cherry notes. Manages a backstage nose of earthy/mushroomy/umami impressions. Bright acidity, svelte body. Flavors of raspberry, cranberry and earth. Given the ethereal quality of this wine I think now is the time to drink. Drink now through 2012

Light red. A good complex nose of mixed red fruits. medium bodied. tight. A sharp acid/cranberry note. Improved in the glass over the course of the night. I didn't get the non-fruit complexity that others noted... just good CA fruit. It was my only bottle, but if I had more I'd wait at least a year, probably two.

Decanted one hour. Light red in color and cloudy in the glass. There's a very nice bouquet of bing cherry, baking spice, and damp forest. The palate shows a smooth layer of tasty cherry and strawberry fruits, with essences of tilled soil, sassafras, and a liquid mineral note. The flavors are fresh and bright, with balanced acidity and soft tannins, suggesting this is approachable now. +1 for the nose.

Having 2 wines that seem to bring a lot to the table, year after year, at a very nice price. The Swan was certainly all about Cali pinot. The nose showed large amounts of cherry candy. Not in an off-putting bubble gummy way but in an intriguing way. The palate shows mainly sweet fruit. Not over-ripe. No heat. RRV fruityness. A tasty and balanced wine with big purity. Wait a few more years on this one.

Bright floral notes built on cherry and strawberry fruit. This Pinot was slightly sweet, but it was an excellent match to the Thanksgiviing meal with all the typical flavors, turkey, cranberries, stuffing, and gravy. The taste on the palate lingered for a long time. 1 to 2 hours after opening, the wine really opened up and continued to improve with bigger cherry aroma. We tried 2 other Pinots that really were not even in the same class with this one.

Interesting combination of pure, bright, red fruit flavors - raspberry, cranberry and cherry, with some cedar, and a medium, sharp-edged finish. 1+ hr decant @70F in med-base. COLOR- ultra-light, almost Rose likein the glass. NOSE- really fresh and CA Pinotypical; there is a little vegetable perfume; pure strawberry fruit-rollups in sheet form; mountain berries, red cherry, blueberry scratch-n-sniff; there's even an un-chewed bubble-gum scent adding to the playfulness of this bouquet. PALATE- WOW! this is unexpectedly great stuff; classy and charming mouthfeel with a fatty/creamy mid-palate puff to it. Clean fruit flavors from the nose show on entry covering the tongue. Superb balance; alcohol and acid right where they want to be. There's a hint at allspice or maybe cinnamon turning to the finish where cracked apple now-n-laters appear in a sweet 'n sour kind of way. The mid-palate is just smashing; nice transition to an extended finish. With time and added complexity (not sure it will gain much as it's really a freshness purity play), this could easily grow to the high ranks of Outstanding. I have to give it 92 now for the balance and fruit purity.

WOW...lots of flavor and feel, in such a "lite" looking wine. Very lite and somewhat cloudy plum, cranberry juice color. In the mouth...VERY intense(in a balanced way) and focused burst of wild berries and spices. The fruit is candied, high toned, yet balanced well with sandalwood spice, dried florals/cherries, dusty earth, intense citrus acidity, some funky wet tobacco leaves. Super tasty Pinot, livens up the senses....will be very interesting with some age on it.
Aromas of cloves, vanilla at first. Muted red fruits with some underbrush elements. Very bright, juicy attack with pleasant fruitiness. Very little tannins. Gentle, if short finish. Pleasant to drink. Great QPR for CA pinot at $27 from K&L. Would easily buy again.

Not in an off-putting bubble gummy way but in an intriguing way. The palate shows mainly sweet fruit. Not over-ripe. No heat. RRV fruityness. A tasty and balanced wine with big purity.
