Out goes the last bottle of this doomed lot. Most bottles of the two cases were flawed/premoxed. Some rare ones were on the level you would expect from this otherwise fine producer. This last one was the brightest in color, so i expected it to be the best, as the flawed ones were rather dark yellow. Unfortunately, this last bottle was neither flawed nor corked, but has an inexplicable nose of rotten eggs, never came across this before... This lot was really forgettable, it's gone now, let's look to more enjoyable Carbonnieux.

More lemon peel than lemon on the nose, you also find tangerine, flowers and a hint of honey. Still vibrant, the fruit has flavor and freshness from start to finish.

Had several bottles and was baffled by bottle variance: some in good condition, many completely gone. The better bottles offered typical white Bordeaux blend aromas, a nice minerality, grapefruit, apple, passion fruit and honey. Still, this year remains significantly behind the impressive 2000s and 2009s.

Yet another Bordeaux Blanc that disappointed. This one only slightly oxidized and bitter. At time of release, October 2011, Wine Advocate quoted as saying, " It should drink well for 15-20 years." Stored in dark, temperature-controlled cellar. Did this wine cook in a container dock-side? The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is light/medium. The wine has angular texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.
New years eve at home: vey discreet nose, almost not there, flat palate, thinnish mouthfeel, but then on the back end there is some great freshness and zip which saves this very timid wine from being thrown into a sauce. Elegant and perhaps to discreet to stand up to any food, whatsoever. a mystery.

I was expecting a mildly sweet wine. I was wrong. It has a yellow-gold colour, smell is like bordeaux red! Appear to be lemon, mineral, lots of mineral. Because of the lemon favour, it is quite acid. The mineral was explosive when pairing with oyster and abalone.

The wine was medium yellow-golden in color and offered acacia flower, lemon, ripe yellow apple, orange, mango, beeswax, oyster shell and mildly grassy notes on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed lemon, gooseberry, grapefruit, apple, mango, beeswax, vanilla and mineral notes, joined by a mild saltiness, paired with medium to medium-plus lively acidity, a good, slightly waxy mouthfeel, and a long finish. The wine should pair well with oysters or shellfish. We liked it a lot.

This is good, but could need some more time. The semillon, although only 30% actually dominates this wine, and it does not feel completely integrated yet. Let it rest for two more years, and do not drink it too cold.

pale yellow lemon color. Intens and complex: mango, peach, melon - good acidity with a smoky woody edge. Same shines through the palate but also a very nice meaty nutty core that lingers...Excellent distant butter feel from the semillon kept in balance by the acidiy. A good effort by Carbonnieux

Appearance: Bright and clear, this wine is of medium lemon color, with legs. Nose: Clean, the nose shows medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit such as lemon, green fruit of grapefruit and gooseberry, floral notes of acacia, MLF notes of beeswax and cream, maturity notes of honey, oak notes of smoke. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium alcohol and is of medium (+) body with medium (+) intensity flavors of citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of grapefruit and gooseberry, dairy notes of cream, maturity notes of honey. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Pessac-Leognan white with an intense nose showing plenty of complexity, the wine has a good structure, in balance, and provides an enjoyable palate which is concentrated and having similar flavors. If only the length can be longer the wine would be even more exceptional. Ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 4-6 years.

Still relatively tight and firm; I have a feeling this will improve from 5 more years in the cellar. For now it needs a good decant. Oak is predominant but some Pessac-virtues are shining through. Lemon-curd and zest, good viscosity. Splendid with grilled fish and vegetables. (89-92 pts)

The wine was medium yellow in colour. It offered grapefruit, apple, orange, mango, honeycomb, beeswax, oyster shell and light grassy and mineral notes on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed grapefruit, mango, lime, spring onion, minerals and a slightly salty note, paired with high acidity and very good length. The wine was less intriguing than the bottle I had about 1 1/2 years ago, but it worked well with food (in our case salmon) and actually drank much better with food than on its own. It should pair particularly well with shellfish. A little overpriced.

Château d'Yquem with AuZone (AuZone, Stockholm): Colour: light yellow Nose: citrus, yellow apple, some gooseberry and other green notes, initial some synthetic bubbelgum-like aromas, some wool and oak barrel notes. Palate: citrus, noticeable minerality, some damp straw, very high acidity, spice, grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Overall impression: young, 88+ p.
I suppose it is fair to say that aromas from the Sauvignon Blanc component are rather obvious in this wine, but that some of the Sémillon character also can be found if you know what to look for.

A wonderful white Bordeaux with a truly amazing nose of lemon curd, mallow and a hint of minerality. Such a beautiful colour to it as well. On the palate it mirrored the nose quite well, well balanced and certainly ready to drink now. Pale yellow lemon color with green reflections. A well developed, complex and intense nose, combining aromas of tropical and yellow fruits: mango, peach, melon and ripe lime, with a very nice smoky edge. Fresh, full bodied and extremely lively on the palate, the flavors mirror the nose. The mineral and smoky character are a touch more pronounced in the mouth, but this only makes the wine more complex. Medium plus finish, refreshing, with nice citrus fruit. A really nice wine.

This is my first taste of the 2008. Sampled at 43 degrees. Incredibly interesting nose of grapefruit and something floral but feral. Dandelion is as close as I can get. It is tart to the point of giving my teeth an acid wash. Just the slightest hint of marzipan on the long finish. I like it but not as well as the last three vintages. That may just be personal preference as I generally favor the more rounded end of the Sauvignon Blanc spectrum. This is on the sharp end of the Carbonnieux Blanc spectrum.
