Not surprised, this bottle continues to evolve. TC releases wines young, so in spite of the modest price, this wine has 4+ years left. Fruit is ripe but balanced, tannins and acid are balanced too. Very good qpr.

Pnp through Nuance Wine Finer. Dark berries, pepper and some vanilla on the nose. Was expecting an Aussie fruit bomb, but perhaps this has aged fairly well. Good balance. Dark fruit, some tobacco and spice, short finish. More mellow than I was expecting and enjoyed sipping this one. 89 pts. Aloha!

Excellent again. Key with this wine is giving it some breathing time...right out of the bottle it tastes flat, with nothing but the fruit. But give it 30 min in the decanter and it comes alive - dark, almost black. Copious dark fruit and vanilla on the nose. A wave of dark, jammy fruit on the palate. Full bodied, tannins are in the background and are smooth and round. 15% alcohol is hidden relatively well. Very nice for the price of $15-16.

Better experience upon opening than my last bottle (2/13/10 note) Very ripe fruit nose and a jammy sweetness, thought it might have aged into a drinker. While it's come a long way I'm glad I only have one left, just not for me.

F irst of all you have to be patient with this wine. Allowing this wine to breathe is the key. It takes time to unleach that %15 alc. monster and bring this wine back down to earth (1 day min). But when you do you'll find a wonderful deep dark sage brush mocha flavor with plenty of of tannins upfront to keep this wine for 8-10yrs of enjoyment.

This aged in the cellar very nicely. Rough edges have smoothed and alcohol has subsided. Not overly complex but ripe berries, cherry licorice and pepper are predominant.

I don't know why I don't buy more of this stuff because I love it every time I drink it. Copious dark fruit, nice vanilla oak on the nose, smooth tannins, enough acid to keep it from being flabby...just good. At $13-14, hard to beat the QPR. Give it about 30 minutes to open up after opening.

Perhaps the best Shiraz/Syrah we have had in the past 12 mos. Deep inky purple appearance, as it should be; lots of sediment, most stuck to side of bottle. Strong fruit and wood nose. On the taste, strong dried cherry fruit, dark chocolate, licorice. Long, wonderful fruit finish. Well-balanced, does not taste like 14.9% alcohol. Tannins emerge as the wine opens up, but are not overwhelming. This is a wine to drink now, it is at its peak. This exceeded our expectations @$20; the entry level Thorn Clark Shiraz is consistently good and a staple of our cellar...this one is well worth the little extra $$. Will DEFINITELY buy again, outstanding QPR. Had with strong tomato-based Swiss Steak w/Worchestershire sauce and it stood up nicely to this strong dish.

I like it. It has a nose of blueberries and blackberries mixed with vanilla. Very smooth, medium to full bodied, maybe a bit hot on the finish (15.0% alcohol)? Nice round tannins. Fruit forward for sure, but in good balance.

Popped and poured. Deep, inky purple/ruby hue. Forward aromas of blackberry jam, blueberry, boysenberry yogurt, vanilla bean, cracked peppercorns, and perhaps just a hint of dill. Medium-plus to full body. On the palate, this Shiraz shows substantial presence and pronounced fruit. Flavors are similar to and as indicated on the nose with a solid expression of black/blue fruits but also include an interesting hint of ripe stone fruits, a suggestion of black licorice, pronounced herbaceous green notes, and certainly an expression of toasted, coconut-infused oak. The tannins are surprisingly astringent on the moderate close. Despite the tannins, this has enough fruit to stand up to them and, overall, this is a balanced wine but one that needs additional time for all of the components to further integrate. Best to cellar for a few years and drink over the next 5-8 or more after the tannins melt.
Quick commentary: Best vintage of Shotfire Shiraz I can recall tasting was the amazing 2003. This is not at that level. However, the 2008 is still quite the nice expression of Shiraz and one that certainly has potential for improvement.

Dark purple color. Nose of Aussie Shiraz. Reminiscent of classic fruit-bomb Shiraz from Barossa but not quite as "over the top". Nice weight on the palate. Good "sweetness", finish is short to medium, but excellent QPR. Baby brother to Two Hands, etc. Nice everyday wine.

Popped and pouted and had a glass. Will taste in earnest Saturday; consistent with prior notes - a very tasty Barossa ShirOZ!
I think this has developed some in the bottle, it seems to have a bit more depth and the finish is longer, with a nice pepper spiciness. I think I’ll leave the other bottles lie “en cave” for a while longer, and drink The Ball Buster, the current fave ShirOZ

Overall a jammy wine that, although appealing, is not something that I would reach for every week. The juice was incredibly inky and fruity, causing palate fatigue for me by the second glass. There was a fair amount of heat at the end but not pronouced enough for me to consider the wine flawed.
Again, if fruit bombs are your thing, then this wine is pleasant enough.

Grapejuice. Just no depth whatsoever. It improved slightly on the second day, but it's certainly not something I'll buy again. To me, it's the epitome of the junk that is all too often coming out of Australia right now. I was hoping it would be one of the diamonds in the rough.

This is a very small "icon wine" from Kysela. But only $19 a bottle. Dark, well done, refreshing. All estate fruit and mostly valley floor -- just "black black soil" its cropped at 1 and 1.5 tons per acre.

I am a BIG fan of bombastic Aussie Shiraz's. This vintage starts off well - pure grape juice love on the aroma - fruit and vanilla is what you get. it is very thick and opague. ooh yeah. however - it is so hot, so spicy, so tought/biting, that after the first class your tongue and mouth are tired and you really don't want another. I have heard that 08 was a terrible year for Australia b/c of the heat. This wine shows that in spades - too much sugar spelled an over the top wine. This is basically a wine liquor.

color: eggplant purple; nose: cherry oak -- fruit bomb alert!; taste: velvety plum full-bodied mouth feel, cocoa-chocolate, peppery medium-duration smooth, gum-sucking finish; overall: another tasty vintage of reliably good, fruity shiraz -- luscious and worth looking forward to, like a partner whom you know will offer good sex, not a value-priced bargain but still well worth it
8/13/11 - another bottle: I'm still tasting plenty of plum, chocolate, and pepper; having recently found it on sale for $13, I give it extra points for being such a good bargain. This vintage is likely to deliver for the next several years.
11/1/11 - another bottle: nose - gobs of cherry and oak; taste - velvety smooth, a little syrupy, peppery finish; overall -- still a winning package and even better as the weather turns cooler

Opened and drank over a couple hours. The wine is all Shiraz, with a deep dark color. The nose is smoke, carmel and black fruit and that carries over to a fruit heavy midpalate that works will with the tannins. The finish was chalky and tight, but no real heat, and it stays with you. I would buy this again around $15 to $20.

Good version of Shotfire. Dark purple, teeth-staining. Dark fruit, vanilla and caramel, smoke on the nose. Rich fruit, smoke, vanilla on the taste. Nice substrates of flavor, including black pepper, emerge after about an hour. Rich and full bodied to be sure. Still too young to drink, will improve over the next three to five years, I think. This has something for wine lovers and non-wine lovers alike. Best version since 2005.

An old favorite falls short in this tasting of the current vintage. The 2008 Shotfire seems to lack the concentration and density of the '04 and 05's. Hoping that it just needs some time in the bottle I'll reserve additional comments for future tastings. This wine was bottled using a "procork" closure, basically a cork with plastic wrap ends that act like condoms. Not so nice when you open a bottle and inspect the cork- really wrong.....

popped and poured...Deep dark almost black color. Simple monolithic wine that hits you with a heavy shot of black fruit...no over the top fake sweetness...just big heavy fruit. and enough acidity to make it stand up. Fun drinking and does very well at what it tries to do. Outstanding value and a rebuy.
Mrs. Coupe also loved it...

Aromas of violets, graphite and sweet cured tobacco lead to flavors of black raspberries, mineral and pomegranates, with some hints of dusty garrigue on the finish. Almost sprightly, with gobs of fresh acidity that nudge the fruit and mineral notes into perfect balance. After tasting some recent Thorn--Clarke bombs, this is nicely done. Recommended.

I generally agree with the comments from Coupe 60 - very pure and rich black fruit without being sweet. Plenty of alcohol evident. This wine drank well over 3 days.

popped and poured...Deep dark almost black color.

Served at the Heflin residence for the 8th-Grade party. Very nice, great sipping wine and also a good accompaniment with the braised beef meal from the Karen MacNeil book.

Fine Vines Fall Grand Tasting (OneSixtyBlue, Chicago IL): nose: rich and very australian nose of black cherries, spices, blackberries and bits of anise. Not over the top, but certainly bold and fairly big
taste: Full bodied and very rich with bold tones of black cherries, blackberries, and anise. Good feel and holds the fruit well without going over the top
overall: this stays on the border of too much. Big and rich and is classic Barossa shiraz
