Took a while to emerge, but when it did this was lovely. Sweet red fruit on nose and palate with a hint of herby garrigue. Mid-weight, supple, a bit on the gentle side perhaps, but still very enjoyable. I'd have hoped for perhaps a bit more oomph and hopefully I'll find this in the remaining half-case.

I love this wine and it never disappoints. Note similar to previous bottles. Interestingly I definitely felt this was less good on the second evening but can’t fault it.
Medium garnet. Cassis, plum, raspberry, vanilla, clove, garrigue (honey, thyme, lavender), leather, game, earth. Developing. Dry, medium + acidity, medium + fine tannins, medium alcohol, medium + body, long finish. Very elegant. This is drinking beautifully now and is really quite developed, but has the structure and fruit concentration to continue to develop further tertiary flavours. Outstanding.

Tasted this wine at the Mas de Daumas Gassac Tasting with Basile Guibert at the Tower Club as part of the International Congress of Chinese Cuisine & Wine (ICCCW).
Dark ruby red in colour with green herbs and red tea leaves. On the nose there are notes of aged leather, old dusty cupboard and some freshly brewed mocha.

Medium garnet. Cassis, plum, vanilla, clove, garrigue (honey, thyme, lavender), leather, game. Developing. Dry, medium + acidity, medium + tannins, still quite grippy, medium alcohol, medium + body, long finish. Drinking very well but definitely needs to be decanted to bring out the best. Has the structure and fruit concentration to continue to develop further tertiary flavours.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #125; Languedoc; the better wines (By RvD): Transparent ruby red. In the bouquet a bit rustic. Herbs and spices. The bouquet develops for the better in the glass. On the palate juicy dark berries, some red berries as well, herbs and spices, vanilla and autumn forest. Some leather and minerals also. Pleasant acidity and tannin. The wine developed for the better the last two years and there is still several years of future.

red colour with some fading at the rim, smells earthy with some leather, Fruit, strawberries, taking on some cooked characteristics and tannins beginning to melt and mellow. Long finish. Still not quite singing, it's a little awkward, but I think a decant would solve that. It does seem to be maturing nicely.

Savoury black fruits, liquorice, funky and spicy. On the palate it's equally savoury with plummy fruit and clove notes, the tannins are a fine burr and there are touches of liquorice and also a hint of strawberry here as well. Nice.

Dry, medium (+) acidity, fine, grippy, medium (+) tannins, medium alcohol (13%), med (+) body, pronounced flavours - still quite primary. Long finish. Very good quality. Dark, inky and youthful on the eye. Quite muted nose, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit when agitated. The flavours are elegant with medium body, no hard edges from tough tannins or excessive acidity, lovely balance with a blackcurrant and berry fruit, drinking beautifully now. It doesn't feel like it has along life ahead of it but will decline gently into older age.

Very good, rich but without weight. Savoury complex cabernet/Bordeaux blend. Fruit rather than oak oriented.
Has settled down nicely at eight years old, ready for the dinner table now - but given the track record of this wine there must certainly be nearly a decade of further, positive, development.
13%ABV, sealed with cork.

Not sure if this bottle has prematurely aged but or it's just austere to the point of being very dull... Colour - who cares. Nose - subdued. Grainy tannins are really noticeable due to the lack of much other flavour. I'll try my other bottle sooner rather than later methinks. This bottle would get a low 80.

Tasted alongside 2008 Rosso from Borgo del Tiglio. Some similarity could be observed, but the Mas seemed to be little more austere with the Borgo being a little bit more sweet regarding the floral aromatics. This may be due to the different blend, where there is more Merlot in the Rosso compared to the Mas. Although the quality of both was really superb given their price ranges, the Borgo was slightly rated higher by all tasters. Both wines should last and drink well for another five years. Please note, that the style of the Mas is different to pre-2000 vintages as being a little bit more rounded and forward, rather modern than before, so that it was already very smooth and approachable. Both would be great competitors to 3ème Crus in Bordeaux (which sell at least for twice as much).

Decanted and poured. Dark red, red rim, 5. Vinous nose with some depth. Harmonious palate, some tannin, ok finish. Drink now-2018. Difficult wine to assess? Or is it over estomated? It is correct, no fault as such, but is lacking intersting elements. Maybe it will gain something with a couple of years cellaring.....

Asher's 1st Birthday (Alex's place): Decently good. Decanted from a magnum, none of us could place where this came. The majority guess was actually Loire Cabernet Franc - shows how little we know about wine. To be fair though, the nose really did smell Loire-like, with green capsicum and briary notes weaving through dark-fruited blackberry and tobacco scents. The palate was confusing too. It could be the vintage, but this had a really nice, fresh, defined feel to it which is unusual for recent vintages of Mas de Daumas Gassac, let along Languedoc Roussillon as a whole. It was quite cool, quite elegant, with not a hint of rusticity, showing a litheness to its black fruited notes. I liked that. Past the midpalate, a distinct funkiness started peeking out, with earthy, barnyardy notes setting in as the wine slid away into a cool finish, where puffs of tobacco and damp leaves nestled amidst wild herb and berry notes. It is a bit on the lighter side given recent vintages, but I certainly did not mind the trade-off of depth and power for elegance and clarity. Overall, nothing spectacular, and this clearly needs plenty of time in the bottle, but it was a pretty nice wine.

Decanted 30mins before, slightly late as would have like a couple of hours for this young vintage to open up, very little sediment showing now. Rich dark red colour, not opaque. Lovely red and dark fuit hues on the nose and continued on the palate with ripe sweet fruits showing, and long finish.
Lighter body than expected, surprisingly did not stand up to our meal of a large rib eye steaks (blue and medium-rare) with simple veg and potatoes, became watery on the palete and lacked the body to match the protien, unlike other vintages which have had more backbone. As the meat digested the wine improved and was a delight to enjoy.
