Pleasant nose. Deep dark plum and blackberries prevail, followed by spice and black pepper. There is a reasonably long finish. This is right at the edge of going over the top, but it stays on the correct side of the line. But there is not a lot of subtlety which is what keeps me from scoring it higher. This shows no signs of slowing down either.

mellowed nicely. Inky black, no sediment. Dark fruit up front, a little hint of pepper, and a subdued finish. Not the boatload of fruit that's typical of LS GSMs but that's ok. Time to drink, though.

What can I say? It's a Linne Calodo: juicy, fruit forward and opaque. As it ages it loses it initial bite. We just popped and poured, so it will be interesting to see how it opens up in the glass over the next hour.

A cascade of ripe cherries and black raspberries wrapped up in an intriguing spice box . Think of thick kirsch nectar poured out of a sandlewood vessel. Certainly not a shy lass, with leaded window legs that are a prelude to the full-bodied texture that awaits the palate. Mostly Syrah, the Mourvedre and Grenache tame the Syrah's more rustic nature. Lip staining, the raspberries remain at the forefront throughout. But the delicate spiciness keeps this from being a one-note experience.

Pop and pour. Dark and brooding on the nose with sour cherries and cranberries. Blueberries and blackberries on the palate, with hints of game, earth and smoke. Long lingering finish, showing just a hint of heat. Overall, a great line that seems to be drinking well now.

Chilled, popped and poured. And so glad I did! In the glass it's not completely opaque, but it's not translucent either. Let's just go with "medium". The nose is delicate, reminds me of a barn after it rains - there's a freshness to the berries and a dankness behind it, all at the same time. It's so delicate and velvety on the front of my palate. Then the structure and tannins hit mid-palate and finishes with a hint of sweetness. So glad we waited to open this! Just got better with age. Stems up!

S FL WS Group welcomes Board-O (Bistro Provence, Boca Raton, FL): I found this very similar to the Denner though got less pepper and it came across as just a little lighter in body and mouthfeel and a little higher in acidity. Always amazed at how the better Paso rhone blends can pack a lot of ripeness and fruit without coming across as overly thick or syrupy. Another well balanced wine that drank nimbly for its heft.

PnP. Dark fruit with pencil lead, leather/cedar dominating the back. I am always amazed at how a little mouvedre can totally influence a wine, in this case a minerality and savory herbal quality I never otherwise see with CA syrah or grenache. The wine is seemless and drinking well, with no interruptions from fruit or wood tannins. The pencil lead nose mirrors the graphite and salted caramel finish. I found this to be good not great, with several small things out of balance.

As is typical for Linne Calodo, nice concentration of fruit without being jammy. Even though it's mostly Syrah, it shows some nice berry fruit flavors, in addition to the savory, peppery, Syrah flavors. Maybe a bit soft though, so I'm not sure about the aging potential.

Bottle signed by Matt Trevisan ("a lifetime slacker"). Relaxing two-hour dinner w/Hannah, talking around the table. Poured alongside her favorite penne pasta dish. Elegant doesn't usually come to mind when pouring LC wines, but it's an apt descriptor for this GSM blend. Lovely. Starts out dark and jammy (blueberries, boysenberries, blackberries) with hints of caramelized brown sugar and a whiff of graphite. A hint of meatiness from the Syrah. With time, the fruit backs off a bit and violets and other wildflowers make an appearance. Everything's in balance. Hides its 15.4% alcohol very nicely. Minor disappointment in the finish, which comes up a bit short. But the rest of the ride is so much fun that it's still worth a strong rating. Drink now.

Lush and jammy (but not fat) over the top or gloppy - more refined. More of a cocktail wine, but tasty and hard to put down. On the nose, notes of raspberry and spice. In the mouth, flavors of blueberry and spice and a nice finish.

I tasted this blind - wow, quite a surprise considering my past experience with LC. Nose - Jammy blackberry, black cherry, earth, a little mocha, and a ton of alcohol. On the palate, the alcohol is completely out of balance - to the point it burned going down. I'm a loyal wine club member, but this one really disappointed me. I'm glad I tasted it blind to take out the emotional component.

Darker more rustic meaty fruit as opposed to the plush ripe berries I have found in Calodo bottlings. Very well polished and showed an austerity that was quite enjoyable on the palate. Raspberries, smoked meat, smoke, some dark tarry aromas and flavors. A very well made wine - but to be honest I expected a bit more from this pedigree in this vintage.

Focused, big, meaty nose -- with blue and black fruit, violets, smoke and brown spice -- that does not stop. Palate is rich, chewy and chock full of black fruit. Persistent mid-palate. Good balance for such a full bodied bruiser of a wine. Long, flavorful finish.

A Detour To Paso Robles: Booker & Linne Calodo (Paso Robles, CA): This is really complex on the nose with ripe lifted aromas of red currant, violets, and pepper. The flavors mirror those notes with red berries and peppery nuances. There is really great structure and balance in this wine from the ample acidity, fruit density, and firm tannins. I found this wine to have more complexity and tension than the Zinfandel based blends. 68% Syrah, 16% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre.

Wine really got going 2 hours in, unfortunately much of it had been consumed by then. GSM blend 60+% Syrah with I believe equal parts Mourvedre and Grenache. True to Matt's style which I can only sum up, poorly probably, as 'drink me'. These wines all have an allure about them. Yes it's Paso fruit so it's ripe but the blending and work LC does in the cellar is so impressive year in and year out. No hard edges but still a lot of nuance and complexity. Another great bottle from LC. I could drink LC, Saxum and Carlisle and not complain for years!
