Summer Dinner (Los Gatos, California): Fading red. Strong wintergreen. Medium weight but still fairly meaty. Strong backbone of acidity and mixed black and red fruit with a backing of soil and sappiness. Excellent maturing Grand Cru perhaps lacking an element of excitement. It's funny that we only drank this since it was rejected for auction due to a slightly depressed cork--glad things worked out the way they did!

Bottle and cork were in bad shape but luckily I caught it and opened it up immediately. My other bottles didn’t have this problem so I think it was a one off probably caused from shipping.
Anyways, wine was solid and I thought it was drinking very well. Wine held up through the night, though I think I preferred the wine during the first 1-2 hours. Not a bad purchase and once again the 93’s over deliver. Based on my suspect bottle, see the wine holding and then gradually declining in 5-7 years.

Nose , very mature , secondary , very rich aroma . A little metallic nose as well . Some pinot going on , but very small amount . This wine is probably about 3/4's down the other side of the hill .

I own a fair amount of Jadot and the bottles have experienced pretty much perfect storage. Thus, when I saw that a few bottles of the same wine leaked, and others did not, I suspected Brett. The deep red/purple center and red/orange rims did not indicate undue aging. The nose showed prunes, cherries, souls bois, and black spices. There was also a touch of Brett but it was well in the background.
In the mouth, this wine showed good ripeness with substantial rounded tannin, and excellent length. It had that firmness and power that is typical of 1993 Burgs.
This was a bit of an odd wine in the the flavors were somewhat advanced but the structure and power still seemed young. I am not sure if the Brett element was a factor or not. However, the aforementioned odd combination did not seem like a recipe for future improvement. While this will easily last a decade, I would recommend looking for reasons to drink this wine (only one data point).

Brick red color. Wine had been opened for for a few hours. Nose of leather, mushroom, stewed red fruit, herbs make up and a metallic note. Flavors of cooked, macerated cherries, wet earth, leather, tobacco, dried roses, tea and some greeness.

Bottles of this have been variable, but this one was very good, and outperformed expectations. Tertiary on the nose and palate, and a touch exotic. These have never been as good as the vintage and vineyard would suggest, but this was enjoyable.

Looked very young at first glance but closer examination showed a bit of color variation on the edge, tight to start as stupidly didn't decant earlier but it opened up nicely very good fruit , I'm getting a bit of a feel for Jadot and see some house style of darker , long living but on the aftertaste hung around for ever. This was my only bottle but this wine has a long long life.

Casual Dinner with Friends (Smyth - Chicago IL): Open 2+ hours before serving with a quick double decant. Nicely mature black and red fruit with cooked mushroom aromas and flavors. Very good concentration. Dense with lots of structure in balance. Slightly better than the 1997 in the next glass.

Moderately deep, primary color. At first this was all acidity and earth, but some air time gave a more complete picture. Piercing pine needle and brambly fruit comes out from underneath. Some distant floral notes. On the fuller side for Pinot, acidity that never lets go, and a puckering, grainy finish. The fruit is a mixture of red and black with a cool vintage character that nobody would mistake for overripe. This is powerful but lacking in charm. There is enough to it to take a chance and see what happens with a few more years time, but my intuition tells me that it is as good as it is going to get right now.

Very nice, earthy, a bit minty and acidic - benefits from a bit of time in the glass. Not as big and full-bodied as I personally prefer. Decent Burgundy that's ready to drink now, Not a shpw stopper but nothing to complain about either.

My second bottle in three months, with very consistent notes. This is a powerful wine with a taut, muscular personality. The complex nose combines hints of pine needles with soy sauce, earth tones, and blackberries, while in the mouth the predominant notes are those of blackberries (once again), forest floor, and decaying leaves. Wonderful with Epoisses. Drink now as there is ample secondary development, and in the long run the tannins are going to outlast the fruit.

Very long, great acidity, fruit sort of secondary to earthy flavors now. OK to drink now. Dont think its going to improve any.

A decent bottle, although as others have noted its much less charming than you'd expect. But overall, this was the best bottle I've had.

More austere than I would have liked. Marked acidity (which seems to be a general characteristic of this vintage). Needs more time?
