This was a pleasant surprise. Soft plum and berry fruits with some chocolate. There is enough acidity though to keep it fresh. A nice Cali sangio that I would happily drink again.

Dark fruit, spice, violet, and earthiness on the nose. The mouth picks up these aspects, more fruit than an Italian san-go, but pleasingly so. The mouth has a great dusty oakiness to it and good tannins as well. Tasty but having just had the Venom its hard to forget how truly great the Venom is. Still solid value at the price.

Had some plum, spice and floral notes on the nose. The palate showed some plum, black liquorice, pepper and quote a bit of chocolate - the pepper and chocolate coming from what I assume is american oak. Tannins from the oak were still quite present and a bit tight and I wished I held off on drinking this for another 1.5 - 2 years. Well definitely Cali in style, and the oak didn't seem Italian in style at all, there was some solid Sangiovese characteristics in this wine that were much nicer than other Cal wines I've had. This was much better then their Chianti but not as good as their Venom, IMHO.

Although I was predisposed to liking this wine, I don't think the chianti makers have to be alarmed over the Cal-Ital movement. This was a California-style, tasty and approachable fruit-driven drink, with plum and spice, accented by floral notes, on the bouquet and palate. Nevertheless, it lacked the tannic backbone and acidity that I like in italian sangiovese, and definitely lacked the dustiness I associate with Tuscany.

It was a different sangiovese than what I expected. Loads of pepper and spice that took the moisture out of my mouth like a sponge. Finish was a little short, but overall intersesting wine. Went well with the jambalaya.

Boys nite with New World wines, uncommon varietals (Reno, NV): Very light in color, hard to get past the loads of simple, candied red fruits. Firmly acidic on the palate with a tight midpalate and low tannin finish. Just too candied and simple on the nose to be anything more than "average."

Red lighter toned fruit. Over-powering oak. Very mild tannin. No classic leather flavors seen in old world renditions.

Tastes of fresh jam and hearty red fruit. Drinking well right now, not sure you will get anymore out of this wine.

Decanted about 2 hours. Smooth with lots of jam flavors. Touch of spice and earthiness. Solid wine with spaghetti but not over the top.

Character of a seghesio zin but body of Sangiovese in that it is bold and peppery while light in texture.
